video update.
11th Sept.
Good evening, this is Chief Murray with the Yakima PD. I'm going to provide you an update with missing 4 yr. old, Lucian. It's been 24 hours plus since he went missing and I just wanted to provide the community an update about what's happening. In the last 24 hours we've had over 100 people looking for him. We've had sheriff search and rescue team, drones, we've had a dive team, we've had bloodhounds. Obviously dozens and dozens of police officers, members of the community that came to help. So I just want everybody to know that there's been an enormous effort to try to locate Lucian. We were able to get the state to let us use the system that they do for Amber alerts to also alert the rest of the state to this missing child, which is somewhat unusual, so I really want to thank the state for letting us do that.
An update as of now, we don't know where Lucian is and if anyone does know where Lucian is please look at the feed in our Facebook page. It does give a number where you can provide tips to the Sheriff's Department search and rescue. We did turn this case over to the Sheriff's Department search and rescue team in order for them to make the decisions. That doesn't mean that we're no longer looking or no longer a partner. We have been a partner since the beginning and we are good partners with the Sheriff's Department, but the search and rescue team are experts, they know what to do, they have a plan and they're executing that plan. So we're going to assist them in doing that in anyway that we can. But we also want to defer to their expertise and knowledge and know that they're the people who are trained, have the equipment and the ability to best execute this mission.
I also want to mention that there's been a lot of comments on Facebook. People are weighing in and we appreciate that, but I would also say that people should be careful what they say. This is not a time to blame the family, blame the police, blame the searchers. I realise that people have ideas and there's a lot of anxiety, but you have a tiny bit of information and you may not know all of what we're looking at and dealing with. So, I would just ask folks to be just kind of patient. Let's support the family. Love the family. They're going through a horrible situation that none of us would want to endure. So, I think the best thing we can do as a community right now is to wrap our arms around this family, care for them, and to do everything we can to bring Lucian home safe.
We're going to be getting new additional resources tomorrow. We have certainly been looking in the water. A lot of people have been asking about that and we will continue to do that. We have some high technology that we're going to be able to use in the waterways around that park tomorrow. So, that is happening. Some other specialised equipment is coming in and we will obviously continue our efforts to do everything we can to find Lucian. No option is off the table. We don't know exactly what happened. We have some sense, but obviously, any information that we have and any leads that we have could lead us in any direction, we will certainly follow. We've had teams of detectives out all day, talking to people, looking in areas where Lucian may have been. Looking at video tape. So, all of that has also been done. I just want to share with the public that everything we can do and the experts are asking us to do, we are doing.
Finally, I want to let you know that there will be another update tomorrow morning at 10:00 o'clock. Obviously if something happens in the meantime we will let everybody know, but for now, that's the time that we intend to let you all know again what's happening if there's not some breaking situation. So, thanks. Please support us, support the family and let's come together as a community and bring Lucian home safe.
