Found Deceased WA - Lucian Munguia, 4, Sarge Hubbard Park play area, last seen 7:15pm, Yakima, 10 Sept 2022

  • #21

Lucian, which is pronounced “Lu-shi-en”, isn’t nonverbal as previously reported on social media, according to his parents. His mother said he usually comes when someone calls out for him and does not have a history of wandering off. She said he also will answer to “Shooshi” or “Shooshen”, which are two of his nicknames. Lucian’s mother also said he also recognizes the word “Yoohoo!” because that’s how she greets him when she gets home from work. She said he usually says it back to her when she comes in the door.

“I want people to look out for him in any setting,” his mother said. “For his long beautiful hair and baby brown eyes.”

“I know everybody wants to help but sometimes if we get too many people out here, it kind of throws things off,” Goldsmith said. He said they’re bringing out additional technology to help them search the ponds to hopefully rule them out as a possibility or locate the young boy who loves fish and singing the ABC song.

LE video update.

11th Sept.

Good evening, this is Chief Murray with the Yakima PD. I'm going to provide you an update with missing 4 yr. old, Lucian. It's been 24 hours plus since he went missing and I just wanted to provide the community an update about what's happening. In the last 24 hours we've had over 100 people looking for him. We've had sheriff search and rescue team, drones, we've had a dive team, we've had bloodhounds. Obviously dozens and dozens of police officers, members of the community that came to help. So I just want everybody to know that there's been an enormous effort to try to locate Lucian. We were able to get the state to let us use the system that they do for Amber alerts to also alert the rest of the state to this missing child, which is somewhat unusual, so I really want to thank the state for letting us do that.

An update as of now, we don't know where Lucian is and if anyone does know where Lucian is please look at the feed in our Facebook page. It does give a number where you can provide tips to the Sheriff's Department search and rescue. We did turn this case over to the Sheriff's Department search and rescue team in order for them to make the decisions. That doesn't mean that we're no longer looking or no longer a partner. We have been a partner since the beginning and we are good partners with the Sheriff's Department, but the search and rescue team are experts, they know what to do, they have a plan and they're executing that plan. So we're going to assist them in doing that in anyway that we can. But we also want to defer to their expertise and knowledge and know that they're the people who are trained, have the equipment and the ability to best execute this mission.

I also want to mention that there's been a lot of comments on Facebook. People are weighing in and we appreciate that, but I would also say that people should be careful what they say. This is not a time to blame the family, blame the police, blame the searchers. I realise that people have ideas and there's a lot of anxiety, but you have a tiny bit of information and you may not know all of what we're looking at and dealing with. So, I would just ask folks to be just kind of patient. Let's support the family. Love the family. They're going through a horrible situation that none of us would want to endure. So, I think the best thing we can do as a community right now is to wrap our arms around this family, care for them, and to do everything we can to bring Lucian home safe.

We're going to be getting new additional resources tomorrow. We have certainly been looking in the water. A lot of people have been asking about that and we will continue to do that. We have some high technology that we're going to be able to use in the waterways around that park tomorrow. So, that is happening. Some other specialised equipment is coming in and we will obviously continue our efforts to do everything we can to find Lucian. No option is off the table. We don't know exactly what happened. We have some sense, but obviously, any information that we have and any leads that we have could lead us in any direction, we will certainly follow. We've had teams of detectives out all day, talking to people, looking in areas where Lucian may have been. Looking at video tape. So, all of that has also been done. I just want to share with the public that everything we can do and the experts are asking us to do, we are doing.

Finally, I want to let you know that there will be another update tomorrow morning at 10:00 o'clock. Obviously if something happens in the meantime we will let everybody know, but for now, that's the time that we intend to let you all know again what's happening if there's not some breaking situation. So, thanks. Please support us, support the family and let's come together as a community and bring Lucian home safe.

Does Lucian have any siblings? Was it just mom, dad and Lucian at the park?

Any CCTV at the park?

Lots of water in and around this park I understand. That’s never good for autistic children.

Here’s a couple of Google Earth aerial views of Sarg Hubbard park. I circled in red the playground area where Lucian was reportedly last seen.

There’s a smaller lake with a dock adjacent to the park, Lake Buchanan and the Yakima River in the vicinity.

I wonder if there is Camera's anywhere nearby. The Yelp page says it is close to Burger King & Walmart. Both would have cameras.

Here’s some of the businesses near the park. There’s a Walmart, a hotel and a couple of car dealerships.

(The park playground is circled in red).

“We’re hoping that we can find this child and safely return him to his family,” Yakima police Capt. Jay Seely said Monday at the command post at Sarg Hubbard Park. “We have resources coming in from around the state.”

Seely said an Air Force contingent from Fairchild Air Force Base near Spokane is helping with the search, and searchers deployed a submersible drone inside the pond at Sarg Hubbard Park, while aerial drones have searched the area.

Along with the Yakima River, there are two ponds in and by the park.

Searchers have also gone out on kayaks along the Yakima River, which was running too low to deploy boats, Seely said.

The search area was being expanded, Seely said, and teams were also checking L.L. Buchanan Lake, a flooded gravel pit.

@Tealgrove, Lucian has an older brother.

SEP 12, 2022
[...]

Lucian Munguia was last seen Saturday evening playing with his older brother at Sarg Hubbard Park. He and his brother were rolling down a grass hill by the playground when his older brother couldn't see him anymore.

[...]

Search teams are using kayaks to search the Yakima River, drones, ground teams, a bloodhound, cadaver dogs, all terrain vehicles, submergible drones and more.

Camp Hope residents have also volunteered to help search because the path runs behind their camp and many of them know it well. Camp Hope volunteer Heather Lyczewski said the people living at the camp take situations like this seriously.

[...]

Sandra Munguia said she doesn't think her son would hide this long and she believes he was kidnapped but she doesn't have any proof. If he was taken, she asks that the person do the right thing and bring him back.

[...]

YPD is asking that tips be called into 911. There was also a party going on at Sarg Hubbard on Saturday. YPD is asking if you were at that party or at Sarg Hubbard between 6:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. on Saturday and took any video or pictures that may have caught Lucian in the background to email them to [email protected].

Lucian Munguia was last seen Saturday evening playing with his older brother at Sarg Hubbard Park. He and his brother were rolling down a grass hill by the playground when his older brother couldn't see him anymore.
So based on this info from @PommyMommy and the maps supplied above by @osu, I took a walk around the playground area to see what hills were in the area near the playground.
The first one I noticed was across the roadway from the playground. You can’t “walk” up there on Google Earth but you can see a picnic table on the top and the land falls off on the other side to a wooded area. If this is an abduction, someone could have been watching the brothers playing from the tree line and grabbed him when he rolled down out of sight of his brother. I marked this #1 on the map.
The second obvious hill, marked #2 is fairly steep and runs straight down to the large pond.
I took a screen shot of this hill from the round platform in the pond. It just seems if Lucian rolled down here and went into this body of water, someone would have seen him and/or he would have been recovered by now.
LE said he was last seen headed in a SE direction from the playground. Unfortunately, as has been stated, that direction would lead him towards the river. However, this would also be the general direction of the woods at the bottom of hill #1.
