YSO says pulling back resources doesn't mean the search is over for Lucian

YAKIMA -- The Yakima County Sheriff's Office (YSO) says they are pulling back their Search and Rescue team after sending out all their resources and exhausting all the areas searching for Lucian.

But that doesn’t mean the search is over. The Yakima Police Department and numerous volunteers are going to continue looking and following up on leads.

Casey Schilperoort, the Public Information Officer for YSO, says in the 10 years he’s been with the department, they’ve never had a kid missing for as long as Lucian has.

This is disappointing and frustrating.

Another issue is some of the homeless people who camp along the river and the Greenway. Cameron said some of the searchers have had rocks thrown at them and been yelled at by homeless people who told them to leave or gave them false reports of hearing a child crying.

"Homeless (people) has been a big issue for this search alone," Cameron said. "It scares (the searchers.) It makes them hesitant to go into some areas." He said Camp Hope and the gospel mission have tried to encourage those people to come to their shelters, but they have refused.

The search teams have sorted through multiple sighting reports of Lucian that turned up fruitless.

"
Munguia said it started with a family trip Saturday evening to Sarg Hubbard Park in Yakima. Her husband, Juano, had just arrived with 4-year-old Lucian, their 6-year-old son and 2-year-old daughter.

Kids in tow, Munguia said her husband parked right next to the playground. He was changing their daughter’s diaper in the car as the boys got out to play on the hill, which she said is still within view of where they were parked.

“Within a minute, just a blink of an eye, he was gone,” Munguia said."

"Yakima Police Chief Matt Murray told KAPP-KVEW in an interview Tuesday that investigators found video that shows Lucian leaving the park in a southeast direction by himself and that they do not suspect foul play."

"Munguia said while Lucian does have autism, he isn’t nonverbal like has been posted in several places on social media.

“His English is broken up,” Munguia said. “It’s not full sentences, but he still talks. There is talking.”"

This may seem a strange question, but it Lucian obviously a little boy? With his long hair, might someone have mistaken him for a girl?
It is possible. I believe Yakima has a huge Native community, so long hair might not be be uncommon in the area for Men/Boys though.

The other vibe this gives me is of Lina Sardar Khil, a 3 year old who vanished from a play area in her apartment complex in TX. She was last seen cutting through the adjacent parking lot with her friends. They returned, she did not. It has been speculated that someone may have been sitting in a vehicle and snatched her as she returned trailing behind her friends. She has not been found.

Dulce Maria Alvarez also disappeared from a playground, in New Jersey, three years ago. NJ - NJ - Dulce Mariá Alavez, 5, abducted @ Bridgeton City Park, Cumberland Co, 16 Sep 2019 #7

Also Michael "Monkey" Vaughan in Fruitland Idaho: ID - ID - Michael “Monkey” Vaughan, 5, last seen near home, Fruitland, 27 Jul 2021 #2 *endangered*

I guess what they all have in common is that kids can disappear really really fast when one is distracted.

If he fell into the river, it seems as though the bloodhounds would have scented him in that area though right?

I'm a bit confused as to the dogs losing his scent at a sprinkler and then law enforcement confidently stating they have Lucian crossing the parking lot alone. Did he return unnoticed at some later time? That seems extremely unlikely, but maybe he hid?

There is also a young boy in Idaho in 2021. i hesitated to mention his case the other day since I had already shared one other child who went missing near Yakima, who really reminded me of Lucian in many ways. (Many years ago, however, but you just do not know....*if* someone took him....)

Edited to add, I will be back in a few and share the young boy from Idaho. Post to follow, just in case.

Ok. This case has some similarities.

I'm not making a strong point that Michael and Lucian are connected, only posting for those following to be aware. Michael disappeared near a park as well in July of 2021, about 300 miles away from Lucian. Probably not related, but geographically close enough in my opinion to be aware of.

I did also find other relatively young people missing near Yakima, but non were males in Lucian's age range.

I wouldn't rule out girls in his age range--many predators aren't particular about gender.

Okay, slowly info oozes out. Now we know he was seen on video vs a witness sighting. We know Dad was at the car, parked right at the playground, and he could where the boys were playing on the hill.
Based on this, I think the boys were either on the hill opposite the playground, the other side of which goes down to the Greenway trail and the forested area, or the hill that can be seen on the right from the parking lot and which goes down to the fishing lake.
I have marked these hills with a black X on the map. I see 3 potential CCTV cameras: 1) overlooking the parking lot on the right side, 2) the building housing the restroom, which may be closed), and 3) on the France Gratitude exhibit with the train.
Any of those could be in a position to capture Lucian walking SE across the parking lot alone MOO

These cases are so sad. It is like these children vanish into thin air. Nobody sees nuthin.

Does your LE experience make you think that abduction is likely? Or are we just looking at tragic accidents?

I wish searchers could amplify a recording of the mothers voice calling the child. If still alive, the searchers might frighten him in to hiding. Mothers voice might coax him out.

Amateur opinion and speculation

re: the building housing the restroom, which may be closed

Cameras marked would capture if Lucian crawled under a building like this one, right? It seems they would?

I am not able to tell if that is possible? Just thinking of other games young kids might play and "hide and seek" comes to mind. I wonder if it is something the brothers ever played together?

In Dulce’s case, I believe it is abduction. In Monkey‘s case I believe it is foul play, not sure if it’s stranger abduction. We also have Summer Moon Utah Wells, who I believe met with foul play. In Lucian’s case it may be an accident, likely falling in the river, but I haven’t quite ruled out stranger abduction yet.
These are just my own thoughts based on what’s been released in these cases.

Good point. I think for the camera to catch him crawling under a building, the lens would have to be at the right angle from the building. Most CCTV cameras have pretty wide angle lenses.

But if a predator scooped him up, and didn’t dispose of him (I really, really hated typing that :( ) and Lucian is still alive, fingers crossed, whoever has him may have cut his hair, dyed it even.

Wondering if there’s any old water wells or sink holes in the area that he could’ve fallen into? Someone pointed out there’s a very swampy area also by the lake and river but I assume that’s all been searched by now.

Also, I wish we knew more about the party that was going on at the park when he went missing. How large of a party, was it adults or families with children? If there was groups of other kids playing at the party I could see Lucian heading in that direction. Have all of the people attending the party been identified and interviewed and did anyone see him?

Sat view here of the park, but you guys have probably already checked it out. Surrounded by industrial complexes and of course the river.

This caught my attention, though. Image below from a TripAdvisor review. That large squarish lake is apparently lower than the ground level above it and not far from the parking area. If he liked to roll down hills, well, I hope they had divers out. Have they? We also know how they often miss things...
