Autumn, it is essentially impossible to turn south out of the car wash. You HAVE to exit going north but there is an easy route back to the boat launch or Lowe's by turning at Hawley Street.

I meant north. My bad. She was heading north.

branching out in a different direction for a second... Not being local, I keep coming back to the fact that there is no known murder scene. I am drawn to the 911 call that came in the same night she went missing close to midnight. I know it was out of town, but perhaps that is where the murder occurred, and the body was then transported later to the scene of discovery. Maybe the murderer got rid of her cell phone earlier and she made a quick last ditch effort to call 911 and all that was heard was the crying and then click. It was at a convenience store. I don't know if this would be a possibility, but given the complication of all the involved areas, maybe they had ties to an area out there where the call came in? We are all assuming the body was placed there the same day, but maybe it was brought to town days later? Just a thought. That call bothers me...
Locals, how far from town to where that call came from Leavenworth?

I am inclined to think that if that call was from MC's cellphone, LE would know about it even if they hung up quickly. Call display will tell you the caller's phone number as soon as it rings. The only way they wouldn't know who made the call, was if the phone # was unlisted. They don't have to keep someone on the line for a few minutes to trace a call these days ... ;)

What I do find odd, though, is that it wasn't really that dark when her car was parked up in Pitcher Canyon. Maybe darker up there than in town. The sun would have been down, but it's not dark dark by that time. If someone parked it up there to ditch it, seems like they would do that in the middle of the night so as not to risk being seen in it or around it.
So, that takes me back to.......did MC drive it up there and get in or on a vehicle with someone else with the intention of coming back to it.......in time to get to her Dad's for dinner..........which would take more like 45 mins to an hour from where the car was found! I do think that LE has the car keys. However; if they were on MC when she was found, they would have been looking for them and there was no mention of them as there was on the phone. However; look how long it was before the public saw a picture of the phone they were supposed to be looking for!

Also, it seems to me that if she was meeting up with someone in the PC area and something happened, she would have her keys with her and I wouldn't think the perp would want her car anywhere near where the crime scene was. Perhaps it was just found before it could be moved and ditched somewhere else..........in the dark of night.
Just more thinking.

Internet detectives ferret out clues in Cowell case

Investigators have been working since Feb. 9 to solve the murder of Mackenzie Cowell.

They are not alone.

The Internet is abuzz with armchair detectives, ferreting out tips, facts, rumors and innuendo about who killed the 17-year-old Wenatchee High School senior last month.

Internet sleuthing by the public is “absolutely a new frontier,” says Tricia Griffith, the Park City, Utah, woman who owns Websleuths.com, an Internet Web site on crime.

Internet sites have given crime buffs an outlet they didn’t have before, Griffith said.

Entries about Cowell abound on the site. Posters want to know about the girl’s friends and family, about her cell phone usage, and about her school activities. Many also are using the Internet to search public records, and they’re finding out information about such things as property ownership, old divorces and old restraining orders. - snipped

IMO - The fact that the male was riding around town with MAC (at the car wash), makes me think that person is NOT involved with the crime, that it occurred after they went their seperate ways. If it was an intentional (planned) act he obviously wouldnt be riding around with her before hand. That does leave the option that it was unplanned (rage).

What do you guys think??

IMO - Also, the fact that LE hasn't publicly asked about anyone seeing her around Dusty's/car wash (like they have about the boat launch) makes me believe that LE has already confirmed the ID of the male in the car and has questioned him.

Thoughts???

I think the only way that the male passenger is of great significance to LE is if the person is someone who has gang connections or is a complete new POI. If the male was someone close to MC (secret bf, relative, etc) and in fact the killer, any evidence in the vehicle could easily be explained by a defense attorney as having been there from previous interactions.

That call was made from Dan's Foods. A local owned grocery store. It is right on Hwy 2. Between 20 to 30 minutes to Wenatchee.

Is there any chance at all, that MC's body washed up on shore where it was found? It was not found until 4 days after she went missing .. just curious ... ?

MOO - It seems to me that with all the information that we now (think) we know that it is highly unlikely that MAC drove her own car up PC to meet someone. For one thing it is in the opposite direction of her dad's house and a significant drive from the boat launch. The idea that she drove up there, got into someone else's car was going somewhere with them, then return to her car and drive to Orondo for dinner seems very unlikely. If you want to meet someone why go so far in the opposite direction of where you have to be for dinner?? Doesn't make sense to me. On the other hand it is quite a ways from the Sunnyslope/Eaglerock area and perhaps someone thought that by planting the car so far away from that area would throw LE off thier trail. MOO

Any spec homes or cabins possibly up in that area?

Voominvava ... IMO it would be nearly impossibe for her body to get through the dam between the boat launch and CB. Also, I think that the photos that Del Rio posted make a strong arguement that her body was found several feet from the river...near/in a pond on the CB property.

There is some question as to whether she was actually on the beach "with her feet in the water". Del Rio posted late last Tuesday night that he had information from someone that was firsthand, that her body was found partially hidden in a bushy area with her feet in the stream. There is a pond with a waterfall and a stream that runs from the pond into the river, and this is the water that her feet were in. If that is true, then her body was not out in the open and her feet were not in the river. Her feet were visible to the person that was walking on the beach that Saturday. So, whether or not she was placed there with the intention of her feet being visible or not is a question. If she was place there in the dark of night (most likely) the perp(s) may not have known that she was not totally hidden. Very unlikely that she washed ashore, IMO

WC has many listings up here in Leavenworth. Also Dans closes at 11:pm I thought it was odd that a person would not go into store where there are people so caller went to pay phone.

I wonder if that caller has been identified. If not, are those calls recorded?
Perhaps close family could listen to recording to rule out the possibility that it was Mackenzie? Unless the caller has been identified and situation was resolved, of course.

I think she used a payphone and was caught.

After spending time at the dock and car wash, there would have been some time, for MC to tell passenger goodbye, and go on her way before encountering Killer...not a lot of time...but some.

It was Dan's, right? If so, that's in Leavenworth proper.

Leavenworth to Wenatchee is about half an hour, depending on road conditions.

(I don't live in Wenatchee but on the other side of the hills close to US2, go camping there all the time.)

I brought up this 911 call when we first saw the police log for that day..IIRC it was about 11p..A local said it was pretty far away & most likely not her & that was the end of it..If we go by the calls we now know have been deleted on the logs then I guess? we can assume it's not related..Btw..Also on the log that night was the report of the girl sitting on the train tracks which I never believed was connected but a few thought it was a possibility..Some kind of gang ritual (?) but I've never bought into this angle.

Can anyone confirm that indeed Dan's has a payphone OUTSIDE the store that is working? Or perhaps someone INSIDE the store made the call. (I know here in VA, there appear to be a lot of payphones, but when you actually pull up, they are gone. SO, if the call was made close to midnight, did the killer(S) stop there for a brief moment and she ran out to call? We need to check on the WC connection in Leaven~whatever. I'm going to call now...

I just called and confirmed that they do have a working payphone directly outside the store. SO...
