Hard to root against a glorified baggage handler who did a barrel roll in that plane (!) and said he was able to fly it in the first place because of being good at video games (!). The "I'm a white guy" comment can be excused because, after all, this suicidal thief was mentally ill. So - sad about his death and the $$ plane, glad, glad no one else was hurt, and still intrigued by how we humans can act out in this madness of our times.

What? Do you live in one of these thousands of houses near the airport where he could have crashed at takeoff? Do you live on one of the islands? Do you work in the hundreds of business near Sea-Tac?

Didn't think so.

Please share the mental health diagnosis which excuses his racism.

Or he could have crashed into the airport. Seatac airport has a decent number of people in it at night because people are either arriving on flights from the east coast, or they are arriving by car so they can hop on the red-eye heading back east.

Could have crashed into houses, did not crash into houses.

Hard to miss the irony of my "The 'I'm a white guy' comment can be excused because, after all, this suicidal thief was mentally ill" statement, yet this seems to have been accomplished.

From my limited knowledge of this man, I have no idea what he meant about the promotion racist or otherwise.

What he did was terrifying, not unlike other public suicides. That said, hearing his thinking process and his calm demeanor gives a very interesting view into his state of mind. He had clearly decided to commit suicide by plane crash. He didn't appear to be sobbing or sad but rather resolute with a plan.

I am watching so many (in the media) readers comment about good flying and seeing him as heroic. I think most of it comes from the peacefulness and kindness he expressed toward others--not wanting to mess up the runway, sorry to have puked in the plane, etc. The fact that he had no clue that he could have killed people on the ground speaks (to me anyway) that he was not thinking rationally--a guy who is so worried about messing up the runway and causing more work who at the same time could kill on the ground---and was quite ill.

I don't think he was a hero. I do think that he has touched people by the dialogue that has been released. He, by accounts I read, was kind, willing to switch shifts, loved to travel and explore, and took pride in his job. It is vexing and, I think, will cause people to see him favorably. That is the paradox here.

I'm sad, so I'm going to go out and steal a semi truck because I want a lot of attention when I die. I could kill myself with Benadryl , cough syrup, and Jack Daniels, but no. I'm a selfish 🤬🤬🤬 who needs attention. Screw the welfare of all others. I must become famous!

I've decided to drive my stolen semi truck on Interstate 95 with pregnant women, elderly people, and children in cars near me. Then I'm going to see I can do one of those stunts like I saw on Live Free or Die Hard. You guys okay with that?

(This is only an analogy. Don't send the cops to my house.)

No one has said they are in support of his actions. I believe people are expressing that his actions were dangerous, uncalled for, and wrong. I hope we can keep this thread civil and not have it devolve into "camps". This is not really "camp" worthy in my book. His actions were inappropriate and dangerous. I am pretty sure that there are not people who think he was justified or should be given a pass.

His death is an incredible insight into what and how he was processing his world. And, it is terribly sad.

Looking at other threads here and based on what I've seen in the general public, media, world at large - people usually treat those who attempt or complete suicide with compassion and sadness, even grief. Robin Williams, Kate Spade, Anthony Bourdain (and others) all have threads here filled with supportive, kind posts, and people sharing stories of their own bouts with suicidal ideation or memories of loved ones lost to suicide. Why should this man be treated any differently? Doesn't he deserve our compassion too? Can we say mental illness is only an illness to a certain point, but once you do something dangerous or say something unpopular you no longer have to be treated as someone who is sick? Instead of an individual suffering immense pain you are a 🤬🤬🤬?

It seems like you guys who are arguing are all on the same side.

In any event, he was a human being who seemed very troubled but wasnt intent on harming anyone but himself.

A friend of mine who is a LCSW and has worked with severely mentally ill people for a long time said he indeed sounded delusional and disassociative. So he wasn't in his right mind.

I didn't like the "I'm white" comment. But nothing is ever that black and white. Humans are complex. People can have a terrible flaw and wrong thinking in one area but still be generally good people.

Finally, I don't think it's cool or exciting that he did a barrel roll or stole a plane and indeed endangered many lives. It's horrible and dangerous.

But I feel for him regardless. He was a human being. Anyone who can express that sense of wonder and awe at the beauty of the world, long for a bit of serenity before he dies and want to connect with a mama Orca who has been carrying the carcass of her baby for days as she grieves, can't be all bad.

I wish there was a way we could tell if someone is about to break before they do. I'm thankful no one else was hurt.

It's equal parts scary and heartbreaking.

I hope we can learn from it.

I believe we are moving in this direction. It's slow going, but it's coming.
