the kinda was hoping ( one more)

the earnest I really don't know how to land

the term disappoint felt more like death as opposed to i know a lot of you are going to be pissed that i did this (jail)

a lot of time suicide is loneliness the fact that he still was ready after acknowledging that he knew he had a lot of people that care so indicated the despair he was in

disappoint was super telling to me moo

I truly hope the fbi goes home if ntsb can get lead we will get everything if they are second we are gonna nothing or BS

Bbms:
So insightful, Cariis. This young man has gripped hearts in different ways. How rare that one is let in to a narrative like this.

He has evoked powerful feelings and responses all over the web; everything from respect "Sky King", to the dude is out of his mind zero respect, to that's the kind of guy I want to have a beer with.

What is at the core of Rich's ill fated stunt? To do something heroic? To be a hero? What screw came loose? He was very bright, creative, comedic, an explorer, a space explorer, and completely stifled, stunted as a drowned rat on the airport tarmac handing luggage.

He let everyone in to his psyche, a sweet kid, the exhilaration, fear, regret, and serenity.

He is simultaneously tragic and heroic.

Had he thought it through creatively, he would have had a blockbuster story, in film, in literature.

It's got all the characteristics defined below...

Sometimes a person just doesn't know how bright they really are, or it is a deeply unacknowledged facet, and tragically couldn't see the way clear.

The mystery, misfortune, and the misjudgment, the stunning aerobatics and a firey demise all wrapped up in a "sweet kid" with no nefarious intention, makes for a rather epic narrative.

---
Aristotle defines a tragic hero as “a person who must evoke a sense of pity and fear in the audience. He is considered a man of misfortune that comes to him through error of judgment.” A tragic hero’s downfall evokes feelings of pity and fear among the audience.

Characteristics of a Tragic Hero
Here we have basic characteristics of a tragic hero, as explained by Aristotle:

  • Hamartia – a tragic flaw that causes the downfall of a hero.
  • Hubris – excessive pride and disrespect for the natural order of things.
  • Peripeteia – The reversal of fate that the hero experiences.
  • Anagnorisis – a moment in time when hero makes an important discovery in the story.
  • Nemesis – a punishment that the protagonist cannot avoid, usually occurring as a result of his hubris.
  • Catharsis – feelings of pity and fear felt by the audience, for the inevitable downfall of the protagonist.

but we saw intense fire? which usually lead to charring

she also said the wings were recongnizable to some degree and were sheared off

in these videos that one identifable item was fuselage

pondering if wings sheared off in flight before impact ( would indicate structural failure from loads maybe from a dive).

If they sheared in flight they would be in a different location than the main crash site.

NTSB takes tons of pictures

What I think is he realized he'd go to jail for a long time, chose death. I don't know if he was suicidal; just that it all hit him at once what he'd done. In a split second he chose death.

Ate lunesta (!)

Lunesta life saver!!

He acknowledged he never planned on landing

right after asking about jail he said I just you want you whipser sweet nothings in my ears

i think he was just being funny

later he said shoot i was hoping i could just shoot the shi# with the guys

he complimented them on how calm they were - made me wonder if dad was a hothead!!

wildly bright and was oreited and lucid - it would be hard to believe that he was unaware that he would end up in prison for the rest of his life after stealing an airliner not getting clearance to enter airspace etc etc

This guy took off not knowing how to land the plane. And we are arguing whether he was suicidal? Next thing we'd be arguing whether someone jumping off 10 story building is suicidal, or maybe he just wants to fly.

I am not sure why it is important to some people whether he was intending to commit suicide or died accidentally.

Sounds good.

Accidental Suicide.

He is a tragic hero, all right.

I don’t get the hero part.

He put others in danger at every step from the airport to taking off to flying over populated areas to doing a trick to crashing and bringing in rescue. The airspace was shut down for hours causing a chain of delays that caused missed connections - maybe someone was going to the bedside of a dying relative or was a doctor who had to miss a surgery.

I get that he seemed endearing and like you’d want to have a beer with him, but a hero? No way.

Anybody that can pull that off and not kill innocent bystanders is definitely is hero to me!! Not in the sense that he did great things, not that he saved lives etc. I can’t be mad at him. Its fascinating how he was able to accomplish this and not kill anybody else. Not like I am going to be like hail to Beebo just thankful his stunt didn’t ruin lives not affected by his. I’m interested in the mental wellness aspect of this case now that the redic actions that could have but did not kill others is over. Jmo

My sense is few come here to argue - it is more like debate, get new ideas, access to information we can share,, learn a heap of stuff we never knew ,ponder and learn opposing viewpoints. jmo

I think most of us have people in our lives that actually believe that our interest in - murder, missing people, mass shootings, terrorists - ought to result in trip to a psychiatric facility not a website!

Ideal retorts:

you spend $18 bucks to go see a murder mystery

Dateline and 24 hours and all the rest of them have been airing decades - why do you think that is?

Ask them if they recall in bookstores, true crime was one of the biggest sections ?

**For our youngins -in our days they had these wonderful buildings that housed a whole bunch of things known as books! They have covers and pictures and words packed inside! They were bigger than the cell phone in your hand. with no buttons!

You held them up in your hands and easily gilded your eyes across said words - there was no glaring screen to impede capacity to read created words !! (Superman's visual acuity was not required!) The size of item was way bigger than 4 X4 inches! They did not beep vibrate flash or zing while holding them in your hands! The never needed to be charged! They also had a wonderful smell!

Smile !

Accidental Suicide.

How can being fully cognizant of having no idea how to return a 456,267 lb item back to the ground, be a "boo boo"?

RE; In a split second he chose death.

Choice demands options............................

I don't think this young man planned a suicide in this way at all. I think young men can be very impulsive. He was 29 years old, an age where one thinks one is invincible.

An underlying death wish? The Evel Knievel kind? Maybe... He was definitely fulfilling something huge. I think he saw the opportunity, had access, jumped on it, and slipped that airplane in the taxi line and boom, executed a take off. If he never flew a plane before, and I don't think he did, that alone was incredible.

Wild does not even begin to describe the circles he was making in the sky with that jet. It was so in the moment, he wasn't thinking anything through. So in the moment it sparked a confessional that bubbled up from his subconscious? And, his kindness to acknowledge his loved ones. Oh my. When he saw the two fighter jets tailing him, and it sunk in, his joyride became the harsh reality that he's screwed, live or die. And, he just knew.

I feel the Sky King reaction that I'm seeing around the web is about that moment of death. And it is romanticized just like love and life. The great gig in the sky.

Knowing that he, by sheer grace, did not kill anyone else, I can't be mad at him either.

Perhaps we should be ok with drunk drivers as long as they kill only themselves.
