It had totally slipped my mind TD had moved to Idaho a year ago!! Wow, that makes him showing back up there after their murders and escaping LE much less of a coincidence in my mind (than him randomly picking Idaho to hike into, IF it's him again).

ETA: I wonder if LE has been on the lookout for him in Idaho this whole time, or at least since the first few weeks after searching the area he disappeared from in WA and not finding him.

I would presume they would have, knowing he lived there a year ago, and after they announced they had "expanded" their searches and resources beyond that area.

Wow

This article says that in May 2024, Decker moved to Idaho in his RV, but does not say where in Idaho that was:

Also, this article says that Decker was a "second term apprentice carpenter" on the carpenter's union book in Washington state, but was removed from the union earlier in the year:

I recall reading early after the girl's bodies were found that Decker had also worked briefly fighting wildfires but cannot recall if that was in Washington or Idaho and am still researching articles to find that information. So for now, that information should be considered rumor.
It also mention that the RV he had was repossessed.

At the end of this article it says (BBM):

"The Marshals Service asked anyone who was recreating in the Bear Creek area within 24 hours of the sighting to reach out to the agency with information at 1-800-336-0102, or online at usmarshals.gov/tips.

Officials warned the public not to approach or interact with Decker."

Well, it is not impossible, but the main reason for a child murderer to show up in Idaho would be the fact that crossing into Canada from Idaho is much easier than from WA. It is a well-known fact. So I wonder if it may be his plan, after all. Then he’d pass the sparsely populated Eastern corner of BC and end up in rural part of Alberta. I don’t know what happens after ID and how is Montana in this regard, but he might still have “the Canadian” plan.

I heard back from a deputy U.S. marshal tonight who said two people actually made reports within an hour of each other:
• One thought they saw Decker
• One wanted to report someone they saw and gave a description but did not specifically identify Decker

Wow.
Looks like RR tracks go between Ellensburg and McCall ID.
Google Maps calls it 6 days of walking.
Do people still hitch a ride on train box cars? I know they used to, which would be one way to travel a large distance in a short time, at least part of the way.

What is he following? A road? A river?
Keep in mind Google maps is going to give the easiest way to walk (it was along Hwy's), so that's not his exact path. I was showing start and potentially end points, so he'd be going SE, not North to Canada which is what was thought with all his Canada Googling he did.

@Boxer mentioned RR tracks upthread.

Sure, why not? :) I can remember as a kid seeing hobos riding box cars as they passed by. Current day not so much. But, he's a fugitive, and he's going to do whatever he feels he needs to do. Including trespassing, etc. What ever it takes, IMO.

I was on Amtrak’s NE Regional over the weekend and wondered the same thing myself when we were at top speed. As a railfan I was checking our speed on my Transit Doc app and we were traveling anywhere from 21mph to 108mph, but this was a short passenger train (so no box cars).

Surprisingly freight trains roaring across the wide open west only move at 40 - 70mph due to their weight and competing rail needs. Might not be too difficult to jump on at 40mph, but 70mph?

A deterrent to jumping on modern trains are cameras (CCV)! I noticed several on our train. Also, box cars are now usually locked. Despite railroads taking these measures, “freighthopping” still goes on but less than in the past. OMO.

Yes, I noticed it, too. I looked for Bear Creek in Idaho and found aplenty, lol! But he is closer to NV corner, it seems.

Wow at "still" getting tips. I wonder how many tips there's been? We know of 2 posted upthread. This is sounding more and more like it could very likely be him IMO. Time will tell...
Wow at "don't pick up hitchhikers" -- I wonder if one of those tips was a driver who gave him a ride.

Could be it's a general warning but it could have been one way he covered such a distance.

Could be but I think it's just a general warning because he killed 3 innocent, sweet children, he's on the run, and likely armed (IMO) and dangerous. Even if not armed, he has a lot of experience under his belt from his military service, and still dangerous, even if he's not armed. I'm sure he has a knife to use as a tool (and could be used as a weapon).

The agency said cabin owners have been informed, and it asked the public to report any further sightings.

The map above shows key points in the search:

1/ Rock Island Campground, on Upper Icicle Creek, where the bodies were found.

2/ Colchuck Lake, where the suspicious person was spotted on June 9.

3/ Ingalls Creek Trailhead, where the trail tracked by dog teams ended.

4/ Bear Creek, Sawtooth National Forest, Idaho; reported sighting July 5.

Very interesting. So this begs the question why did the second party report him but not identify him? Maybe they had their suspicions and just didn't say the name so as not to be hasty, but if they didn't happen to know TD's description (or even hadn't heard of the crime, if such people exist), why did they report? What was unusual or irregular or concerning about the person?

The tattoos not being mentioned when the description included tee shirt is a very noteworthy. I wonder if a long-sleeved shirt made of tee shirt fabric would ever be described as just a tee shirt. I wouldn't say it that way myself, but somebody might, maybe......

“Eric Toms, supervisory deputy U.S. Marshal with the District of Boise, said the agency was receiving more tips from the public following the statement the task force released Sunday. Toms, in an email, said the agency was evaluating each tip and that a search team involving the marshals service, the U.S. Forest Service and the Camas County Sheriff's Office set out Monday.

He said authorities planned to speak with residents and people camping or recreating in the area. He said Decker has a history of hitchhiking and encouraged motorists not to pick up any hitchhikers.”
