I was hoping so much that it would have been TD. I think he's in the wind and will be until he screws up and somebody spots him. He can't pull this off forever...can he??????
I agree, and based on recent filicide research data presented here, if TD is in the wind, free as a bird, the odds are more likely than not that he planned an escape after planning his heinous act.

Alive, no, I doubt he can pull it off forever. Deceased, maybe forever? Hope not. I just think about the vastness of the region. Somebody told me that if you look at the wilderness from the air you get a sense of it, and I keep going back to that.

Travis was likely strong enough at the outset to put numerous miles between himself and the scene of the crime if he stayed in the woods. That's a lot of square yards to eyeball.

I was also hoping so much that they were his so the Mother can get closure to this nightmare and a peace of mind that he can never come after her to hurt her.

Hard to imagine a more despicable murderer.

Yeah, it is only September. He may hold out for a month, eventually winter is going to hit and he either will have to come to warmer temps or will over estimate his ability to brave the cold.

Just my thoughts and hopes

If he’s still in the mountains, without a LOT of resources winter will knock him flat fast. Rain is forecast for next week and snow won’t be far behind.

Yes, agreed. And staying dry in the middle of nowhere in winter would be tricky. Keeping one's feet dry, clothing dry.... As we know, cold and wet can be a fatal combo when there's no dryer to toss your stuff into.

Further, Sheriff Morrison indicated in his August 27 conversation with Nate Eaton-East Idaho News (video currently found in my post #1280 of this thread) that he himself is familiar with some of the types of animals that are out there (32:55), and he doesn't feel Travis would have enough to survive animal-wise. People who can live off the land are rare individuals, and he doesn't think Travis is one of them.

Morrison went on to state that TD's father and brother expressed reservations (33:51) about Travis' mental powers. The sheriff proceeded to use his own words to summarize theirs: "He's kind of a knucklehead". The sheriff also commented that the mother of the girls has indicated that Travis is not a brilliant man (34:04).

Given those evaluations by people who knew Travis well, I'd guess by now he's either 1) deceased, 2) living in the shadows somewhere amongst other homeless persons prior to being discovered for who and what he is, or 3) being sheltered, for a while longer, by someone who either isn't aware of the murders or who has found a way to live with him/herself by concluding that Travis snapped and then unsnapped.

I think he killed them because he could and it would guarantee a lifetime of pain for his ex-wife. I really think it’s as simple as that.

RSBM. I agree.

I never thought TD ran into the woods, as LE was so convinced he did. Maybe I'll understand LE's strategy once they're able to share it publicly.

If we assume TD planned his heinous crime and his escape, why would he seek refuge in deep forested and mountainous land that by October could kill him from cold, wet, starvation, and/or predation?

No, I contend, as I did early on, that TD likely had some sort of way out that put great distance between him and the crime scene (and LE) during what became a 3 day headstart.

Maybe a mountain bike? Maybe a small motorcycle? Something that fit, obscured, in his bed truck bed?

TD had three days before any national news flash about the death of his girls. So the public, and perhaps LE in neighboring states or countries were not looking for TD. If he had a new ID / Passport from the dark web, he could be anywhere.

But given his mental health - is he still in a psychotic state as some have opined here? - he is likely in an urban homeless community or a large survivalist / prepper colony in a remote area.

IMO he is long gone, or dead deep, deep, in the forest. Either way, while I wish for closure, I suspect this may be a decades long search that may never end. :(

ETA: IMO and tidy up text and format.

If he's alive, I don't think TD will hunt down his ex wife, as long as he gets the mental health treatment he needs.

I don't want to bet on anything. His poor ex-wife is currently in the state of grief and fear. Until the fear is gone, she can not fully embrace and process her grief.

It is the worst of horrors. But my hope is that she is young and can still have some life. Not the same as with the girls but still. But the poor woman can't move when he is around. So I'd rather he is dead than alive and roaming around. Even behind bars, there is still some connection with his ex. The best outcome is if he offed himself. But I am not sure.

ETA: and then someone reports a man in white odd (closed in the back) car, with long dark greasy hair scaring a woman in Everett, and I wonder, "is it TD?"

Hope it takes 40 days to die. Most murderers think they are innocent because someone "drove them to it."
Nope - you were already willing to kill, and dis not leave the situation or take a break as you felt yourself slipping into craziness.

I wonder if the reward also applies to anyone who finds TD's remains?

"The U.S. Marshals Service is still offering a reward of up to $20,000 for information leading directly to Decker's arrest."

If so, I wonder if folks have been combing through this area looking for TD or evidence of interest after LE stopped their search for him. That may explain why suddenly the FBI is back for 'evidence'.

Did someone find something of interest, motivated by the reward?

IMO
In Australia, we have just offered $1m for Dez Freeman who shot 2 cops and has been hiding in the mountains of Victoria.

What a dirtbag. No.sympathy.
I am tortured imagiining how he was able to tie those bags on all 3 at once. One or more would have fought back or ran. Hope they find his remains beyond a doubt. I don't think it was ever released (?), whether they were bruised trying to fight back or get away.

He could have threatened them, he could have drugged them, he could have attacked them one by one out of sight of the others. All imply that he knew what he was doing and was calculating how best to kill all three.

MOO
