Now that the trial has ended, I don't think "honor" had anything to do with what happened to FA. I think this was about money and two parents who could not control their 17-year-old "westernized" daughter as they believed appropriate.
FA has two older sisters who do not appear to be in arranged marriages.
IMO, I think Dad wanted to sell FA to some old dude in Iraq because he learned for the first time in Sept that FA had a boyfriend, and the parents did not approve of this, and also believed FA would continue to date him or others.
Much has been reported about FA having a one-way ticket to Iraq, but all of the Alis' traveling to Iraq had one-way tickets because they did not know the timing required to process Iraq passports for the younger brothers/sons.
We know that FA changed her testimony at trial when it came to describing her mother's actions. At the hospital, she clearly told the investigating officer that her mother also tried to choke her when she was on the ground, but at trial, she testified that her mother did not try to hurt her. IMO, this had to be very difficult for FA--knowing her mother did not try to protect her from her father.
