WAPATO — Relatives of a Yakama woman whose home burned early Nov. 14 have not seen her since and fear for her safety.

Rachel Lorraine Norris, 38, has not been seen by family since the early morning fire on Third Street. She has not been staying with relatives since then, and she hasn’t been at work, which is unlike her, family members have said on social media. She lost everything in the fire, they said.

Family members filed a missing person report with the Yakama Nation Police Department.

Norris is 5 feet, 6 inches tall and approximately 140 pounds. She has a mole on the right side of her chin. She often wears glasses and has dimples.

Those with information on her whereabouts are asked to call Yakama police at 509-865-2933.

Woman hasn't been seen since her home burned Nov. 14

TOPPENISH — Family and friends of Rachel Norris agree she is an independent woman. They say she doesn’t appreciate drama. She speaks her mind. She can handle what life throws at her.

They know all this about Norris. But hours after she lost everything when her apartment in Wapato burned early Nov. 14, Norris disappeared. She hasn’t been seen since that afternoon, and relatives cannot confirm rumors about where she might be. They fear for her safety and worry she may be struggling with overwhelming emotions.

Where could Rachel be staying at? I really hope that she didn't do any self harm because she was so upset about losing her apartment & belongings...

Same thoughts here - my heart goes out to her! Haven't seen mention of phone, car, pets etc.

Still appears to be missing, no new info.

Hate to even entertain the idea, but could her boyfriend have been trying to kill her?

“Schwartz and tribal police have spoken with Norris’ boyfriend. The couple were arguing the night before the fire, Schwartz said, and Norris asked him to leave, which he did.”

maybe he was very angry and came back and started the fire? And tracked her down later? Rachel seems like a very tough and hardworking person, maybe one could say she’d be the kind of person to stay stronger than most in the wake of losing physical possessions. Moo. hope so desperately that this beautiful woman is safe.

This is like right there almost where a tremendous number of Native women vanished. Some have been found murdered in horrific ways. One in fact in a burning car. Others still just have not been found.

Hoping this strong woman is alright.

I hope the poor woman is ok. She could be running from her ex, and maybe doesn't want to involve her family and friends?

In that article, it mentions that relatives can't confirm about where she might be- so it sounds like someone may have seen or heard from her, but she hasn't contacted her loved ones?

I wonder if they established the cause of the fire. If it was deliberate then that doesn't bode well for her safety. I hope she is ok somewhere.

Too bad they wouldn’t even identify gender. It’s a waiting game.

When reading the report on this case, I kinda thought Rachel just decided to take a break from responsibility for a little bit because of the fire and argument with the bf. She lost everything. And if she thought for one minute bf set the fire, she may have gone on the DL so he can’t find her, thus none of her family knows where she is, cuz if they do, he might. She might be staying with a friend from work her family doesn’t know about, a sort of safe haven for her. JMO

Sounds like hunters found partial skeletal remains-“skull and some long bones”
I have a feeling this person has been there for much longer than a month :(

Investigators moving ahead with dental x-rays in hopes of identifying remains found Sunday

I was thinking the body might have been burned and only bones remained. :( There are others missing from Yakima County but what made me think it might be Rachel is that they are including the Yakama Nation Police and the FBI in the investigation of the unidentified remains. And they were careful not to reveal exactly where they were found or the gender even though they think they know it. We shall have to wait and see if it is her. MOO.

I believe that based off brow and jaw bones, one might be able to make an educated guess without having actual evidence.. hope they let us know when they have an idea of who this is...
Thinking of Rachel and her family!

I'm confused was she seen after the fire? This sounds like domestic violence may be involved?

Not that I saw in any reports. And yes, I’m also thinking this is a case of domestic violence.

“A few hours (after the fire), Norris went to a relative’s house, clearly upset after barely getting out of her apartment in time, Schwartz said. Norris then headed to Goldendale to see her younger sister, who messaged Schwartz about the fire. Schwartz called Norris and talked to her that morning, already worried because of an earlier conversation.

“I had spoken with (Norris) a few days prior. She had asked me to pray for her,” said Schwartz.”

Why would she ask for prayers but not share what was going on? So worried about her.

If she left the relative's house and was planning to go to Goldendale, how was she traveling there? Bus? A vehicle?
