Police investigating baby's suspicious death at Redmond apartment

Close to me. Developing story.

REDMOND, Wash. - Police are investigating after a baby was found dead under suspicious circumstances at a Redmond apartment complex.

Officers and medics responded to the scene, an apartment building in the 18300 block of 98th Way, at about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday after receiving a 911 call from someone inside an apartment there.

A 3-month-old infant was pronounced dead at the scene. Police are calling it a "suspicious death."

The child's next of kin still had not been notified as of 1 p.m.

Police are awaiting a search warrant for the apartment unit.

No arrests have been made yet.

It is all as of now...

I wonder why a 3-month-old's next of kin hadn't been notified yet... Was it a home daycare or maybe a foster parent?

Rest in paradise, little one.❤️

This is what I copied from Redmond Police news

“REDMOND, Wash. - Redmond Detectives are currently investigating the suspicious death of a 3-month-old infant at an apartment in the 18300 block of NE 98th Way. A person in the residence called 911 around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday to report the child was unresponsive and not breathing.

Arriving medics confirmed the infant was deceased and detectives were called in to determine if criminal activity had occurred. King County Medical Examiner’s Office Investigators and Redmond Police Detectives were still at the residence and working to discover what happened as of Wednesday evening.

More information will be released as soon it is available.

Redmond Police Case #21-002964”

So maybe, a babysitter reported it?

As @Arkark said above -- was the 911 caller a sitter/caregiver who would come by every day (or however often) to care for the baby while the parent(s) were at work or running an errand, etc?

Did the caller come over and go into the apt., greet the the parent(s), and then go in to check on the baby, and find the baby dead?
- or -
Was the baby fine when the parent(s) left and did the sitter do something to cause the death?

Another sad, sad story here, anyway you find it -- abuse or natural death? Waiting to see. <sigh> Another tiny angel gets his/her wings...

There are way too many dead babies.

On Thursday, loved ones identified the infant who died in Redmond as 2-month-old [JW - I've redacted names for now as I don't yet know if the IDs are allowed].

[KW], 17, is devastated. The young mother trusted her friends to take care of her baby while she traveled out of state. According to investigators, one of those friends called 911 around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday when the infant was unresponsive and wasn’t breathing.
Infant who died in Redmond identified

Both are named in the article, along with more information.
ETA: The Daily Beast also has an article with more info but unless you're a subscriber you can only view a few sentences. It's worth checking out.

Oh man, my heart breaks for this young mother...

I can't imagine what she must be going through. I hope she has a strong, loving support system nearby that she can rely on, that are NOT associated with the "friends" that she left her baby with. Their alleged actions post-death are... questionable IMO. I hope she gets some answers.

MOO, of course!

An autopsy should give the cause of death, but it is remotely possible that it won't. Was the infant in his crib? If so, could the baby have been choked by a pillow or a soft toy (never in an infant's crib) blocking his breathing?

Were the other children old enuff to play with and possibly endanger the baby -- not on purpose, certainly -- but in playing "baby-doll" and wrapping him up to tightly? possibly dropped the baby? played too rough? put a heavy blanket over the baby thereby preventing his breathing? Could one of the kids have given the infant food or a liquid and the infant choked?
Or was it an adult, and the little one cried too loudly, or cried too long, or whined or fussed, etc., and the adult made the baby stop crying somehow?
We should find out soon, if LE decides to disclose it.
That poor little 17 year-old new mom. She was devastated. I hope she has a loving family nearby -- but she may not since she left her little one with friends...
Strength and support to the young mom, and RIP to the little angel child.
And justice.

This is really sad. She thought her son would be safe and properly cared for. She left him with adults.

Accidents happen, but it’s heartless to treat her like that.
