#findsamsayers Public Group | Facebook

The Facebook group has some good info about the search. It seems really well planned. This map of where they are searching is detailed as well. From the written post along with this map, it seems her cell phone may have sent out an sos. That’s not good. I hope they can bring her home safely!

ETA: I see it says a name in the link, but it is a link to a post on the find Facebook page.

Wouldn't her phone be dead by now? Otherwise they could ping it, possibly, to find a general location?

It was several posts back on the Facebook group, but whoever is running that page said that Sprint did do that and found that her phone was still moving which gave them the initial general search area. This was a few days ago, though. I would expect her phone would be dead now.

If the phone was moving she might be lost rather than injured. Because of the sos I would think she wasn't attacked.

The family has made a new missing poster.

Boot print of Sayers found on Vesper Peak
But, a note from her boyfriend, Kevin Dares, this morning stated in part, "Guys, just got off the mountain and it's been a long day, but we have clues and hope. We found a boot print today, south of the peak and it's off the beaten trail. That looks promising. We're going to find her, guys; heads up and hopes high. I'm feeling positive and so should you."

ugh (not at you CV), that headline is misleading click bait - grrrr! Non one has confirmed it is her bootprint. (or have they? can they? this quickly?) So great to read the hope from her BF!

The headline is bad. The article itself has the quote her boyfriend put on the Facebook group which says they found a boot print but don't know if it's hers or not. :(

Just as an aside, I have a friend with Alopecia; it doesn't affect her health in any way, just caused hair loss. When she wears a wig and applies eyebrows you would never know she had any condition at all.

Really hoping they find her soon. The bags of necessities is such a great idea, IMO.

If she went off trail a week ago, let's hoping she was still in the snow line where she could get water. But after a week without food (food was being put out but only on the trail which made sense) and wearing light hiking pants and a sports bra in 50 degree nights, I'm afraid it's not going to be a good outcome. The fact the infrared didn't pick up on her is not good news. Praying for comfort for her family and those that continue to search to bring her home.

Can she have survived this long with no food or shelter?

This tweet from the sheriff's department has photos from a helicopter of the terrain that they're searching, showing how it's rugged and very rocky.

If you check out some of the Youtube hiker channels, and I recommend one called Darwin On The Trail, you will see that not only could she survive but that there are people who spend their lives doing these hikes. Many of them do it solo too. And his question and answer videos and some of the female hikers videos have them admitting they don't carry weapons and are extremely trusting of fellow hikers. Which is how the world should be, and the hiking community is what will be necessary to find her. And she already probably knows they are looking for her. So if she is just injured somewhere, she will just hang on as long as it takes.

I don't think these two cases are AT ALL related in terms of what happened, but wanted to link the post for Susanna Stodden and Mary Cooper here because of the close geographic proximity: WA - WA - Susanna Stodden, 56, & Mary Cooper, 27, Pinnacle Lake, 11 July 2006

Susanna and Mary were shot at a trail not far to the west. They were on the Pinnacle Lake trail. The trailhead for that hike is off the same highway as the Vesper Peak trailhead. Sam would have driven right past the turn off to the Pinnacle Lake trailhead on her way to the Vesper Peak trailhead.

I've attached a map with Pinnacle Lake and Vesper Peak both marked. The highway is the white line near the top.

On a less positive note, her boyfriend said in an interview(heavy.com) that "She didn’t have cold weather gear. She had like three sandwiches, some chips and water. It’s been five days.”

For a day hike that's pretty sparse in that terrain. Even someone's EDC(every day carry) kit would have more than that in it. Hopefully she did have more in her pack.

Anybody else uneasy about the male hiker who had lunch with her on the trail?

I thought about that, too. The local MSM said he was being interviewed by authorities and was cooperating. But the fact that he said after lunch, she left the peak and went down the south side, toward the lake, away from her car was strange. That's not the route back to her car. That's the complete opposite direction.
