New article today: Search continues for Seattle hiker missing more than two weeks

In it, there is this quote: "Kevin Dares, her boyfriend, told Fox News that Sayers had lunch with an unidentifed male prior to her disappearance. It was unclear what their relationship was."

Is this the same male that authorities have spoken with and who has been mentioned in previous articles? That male is not "unidentified". Is this another person that Kevin is referring to here, or just an error in the article?

That article is poorly written, along with having her age wrong.

The male is known to LE as he contacted them after he saw the article about Sam a few days after he passed her on the trail. They did NOT eat together, but he did see her on the hike.

Maybe there's a second male? One she had lunch with and another one who saw her on the trail.

The past tense thing seems to be emerging as a pattern for him. I’ll bet her mom is not doing that.

I saw an update by her mother the other day, and she did start to refer to Sam in the past tense. I think that at this point that may be natural as some doubt begins to set in.

I think that it's also clear at this point that Sam was on the mountain and alone. I believe at the beginning they said that the boyfriend was at work (can be found on their Facebook page). The SOS ping seems to indicate that she ran into trouble in the afternoon. In the absence of something that would put the boyfriend on the mountain around that time, I don't think that there's any evidence that points to him. It's possible that his grief and attitude is simply different from ours.

If you go read the latest post on the Find Sam Sayers FB page, you can read that there never was an SOS call, just phone pings.

On the #findsamsayers FB page, there is a video a fellow hiker took that actually includes a shot of Sam on Aug 1st as well! She is wearing what appears to be an orange hat.

Did you notice the upcoming boulder scramble?

Has it been verified what time he got to trailhead?
This article gives us some idea of the time (https://www.heraldnet.com/news/search-for-missing-hiker-nears-3-weeks-as-family-clings-to-hope/). It says that he left after 6 pm to drive the 75 miles to the park. It's useful to know that this park wasn't apparently close to where they lived or were working. It would take him at least an hour if he were going 70-75 miles per hour to the park, and I believe I saw on the Facebook group that he left around 6:30-7:00. Then, he states that he found her car, and hiked about two miles into the woods. It was there that he broke his flashlight and retreated to the ranger station using his cellphone. I would hope the police are looking into this using his work records and cell phone records, as they stated that they had not yet ruled out any possibilities.

Interestingly, this article also highlights that the police have backtracked on their previous press release that the man at the summit ate with her. Instead, they are now saying the man was eating lunch when he noticed her. Also, as others have pointed out, they now have video of her climbing up the trail alone and more hikers have come forward to say that they saw her alone around 3 p.m.

Agree, I am sure they must be exploring all possibilities. If he had left earlier in the day, and reported her missing so late that evening... it could be a whole different story.

I'm not the type to IMMEDIATELY look at the significant other in cases where someone vanishes. I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt. The boyfriend has given me a strange vibe from the beginning. I'm 80% sure it's not a he-done-it vibe, but more so that he's enjoying the attention a little too much. He's also provided his facebook. It was pretty public up until the last few days, I wonder if he's seeing more interest in him specifically pick up.

I do find it weird that this story has so much attention. I live in WA, hike & backcountry camp the cascades, I'm involved in the community -hikers go missing ALL the time, and yet the amount of coverage is never, ever at this level. For some reason I was drawn to this one, like so many others. Almost like I knew it wouldn't be your typical hiker goes missing, found dead from a fall x days later.

I agree on the ‘enjoying it too much.’ It is very interesting how viral this ‘missing hiker’ has gone. Where is it going???

I’m drawn into this case as well. I live about an hour from vp. I think it’s because Sam represents Seattle well. Outdoorsy, socially aware, independent, etc. pnw girl. her mom has made these video updates that are raw and vulnerable, as has the boyfriend. I feel they’ve been transparent and it’s bern inspirational the way the family, community and snohomish county rescue has rallied to find her. It’s just strange there is NO trace.

This is about 20 miles from Pinnacle Lake Trail, the area where my childhood friend and her mother were murdered while on a day hike in the summer of 2006. The case remains unsolved.
I've noticed that anyone who brings up the possibility of foul play/abduction gets immediately villianized on the Facebook discussions. It is the first place my mind went, knowing the area, and the info that she was a skilled hiker. This woman and her loved ones deserve to have all avenues explored. The videos and photos from aug. 1st show that the trail is damn near crowded for such a wild place. Seems if she had a fall she would have easily been In earshot of another person within the 1/2 hr, assuming she wasn't so badly injured she couldn't call out for help.
I surely hope the possibility that she made it down to the trailhead and was abducted has been seriously considered. Do the cell pings jive with this scenario?
