"It was interesting that the items belonging to Shantina and Azriel found on the beach were just below the housing development where this house is located. The items were about 50-60 yards from the house, just down a steep stairway," Chamberlain said.

He found it peculiar, he said, that the items would all be found at the same location on the beach. Chamberlain said he does not believe the items were washed out to sea as originally believed because of the difference in weight and size of the items. He believes it is more likely Shantina and Azriel walked down the beach and that they had the items with them.

"It is unlikely they would all float to that spot," Chamberlain said. "Perhaps they walked down the beach and became trapped by the incoming tide, or they tried climbing the steep stairs and slipped, getting trapped in the water."http://www.examiner.com/x-34328-Seattle-Headlines-Examiner~y2010m4d5-Shantina-Smiley-Update-from-police-no-foul-play-suspected-Shantina-still-missing

I started reading the article and copying info from it before reading to the end. -- VERY INTERESTING!! Especially about the items found on the beach. Also, what was interesting is the article mentions the clothing Shantina was wearing and how Robb new that. If he obtained that from the store video as he states, then how come he got the color of Azriel's shirt wrong?

This makes it even more perplexing, since help was up the same path she had driven down. So she would have been awake not sleeping when tide came in, if she was walking down beach.

I am still wondering if she was running from someone. I think we can also now assume that that knock came from either Shantina or Azriel.

I think she was trying to avoid someone. And you're right, it's too much of a coincidence.

"There is no evidence of foul play in this case," Chamberlain said.

Same article. I didn't see anyone post that quote.

No evidence yet.

Sounds like they aren't ruling out anything.

I hope Shantina is found soon; if she's not alive, then the longer she's missing the less chance an autopsy will be conclusive.

It doesn't say 'yet'.

did they find more evidence? TIA

Can we review what items were found on the beach and a timeline around the arrival at the beach? Seems like it would be a good time to bring that up on these pages again.

At one time I had looked at google earth where the van was found and made a line down the beach east 1/4 mile where they say the items washed up. I noticed it was strange that it was just below the area where the Grimmer's reported the knocking or banging.

I am not sure if they could have been walking on that part of the beach during the hours of 10:30 pm - 1 am, because the tide would have been in probably up to the stairs. Is that right? Does anyone know? When would the tide have been out far enough? I too think it is just too much of a coincidence about the knock. And I would like to know if it was really 1 am or 12 am (due to the time change).

Going back to that night... I live in the area (somewhat) and it was stormy that night. I've always thought that the "knock" on the side of the house was just tree branches hitting it. Just my theory since they looked out and saw nothing. Maybe the wife was sleeping and she got woken up by the noise so didn't hear it in an alert frame of mind. M O O and just my feeling...

You are right. But, once again -- inconsistencies. Chamberlain states at the beginning of the article, that they can't rule out that she is alive; and if she is alive, wouldn't that be considered foul play that her son died and she took off whether alone or with someone else? Still too many unanswered questions. IMO

Robb Simmons said of the items found on the beach, he recognized the orange plastic ball, a small black shoe, and an asthma inhaler. A half-empty bottle of wine was also found near the items. Detectives believe Smiley bought the wine around 7 p.m. Saturday while asking for directions at an Olympia mini-mart.[/B]

That is how I understood it.
