I imagine having to be strong for the children's sake makes it even harder.

I recall an interview where he said his daughter was distraught because LE had called off the search (this was before the items were found). He said he told her that they could only turn over the same rocks just so many times (something to that effect). That struck me as something he'd say because he knew logically it was true, even if he didn't believe (or want to believe) what he was saying. But he had to be able to calm her and help her understand, all the while having the same feelings himself.

Did that make sense??
Yes, I agree fully with you. It is always a horrible position for the grieving parent to be in: In pain themselves, but having to maintain a strong and reasonable exterior for the child. I felt badly for Nicky and Robb, both, when she posted. ( I think his son may be young enough to escape the worst feelings.) My heart goes out to them especially because they have no closure.

bumping one last time for Shantina

Please return to topic - Shantina and Azriel's case.

Thanks,
BeanE

I'm not sure if this was intended for me or not - or if I missed something else that was posted and then deleted, but when I posted the article of the deceased body in Everett - it was because the body was unidentified and could possibly have been Shantina.

Thank you SMK for alerting SS's family of the TES services, just so they are aware of that free valuable service. It is certainly good info to know.

While coming here to sleuth and use our minds to try to make sense of a case I get a certain satisfaction out of it, like trying to piece a puzzle together, but it can also make me feel guilty to want to pore over a stranger's life. At times I feel invasive, a guilty pleasure.

So to see that one of us reached out to help in real life made me feel good, like what we do here is not simply an interest due to sensational headlines. When we put our minds together, we can actually help cases.

This site is wonderful. :thumb:

(hope this isn't considered too off-topic..)

Any indication that they are taking advantage of the TES service? I can't imagine they wouldn't.

That was aimed at me, Jules, as I accidentally (in trying to explain who the woman was) posted and linked to a banned site. I, too, had thought it might be Shantina, until I read that they knew the identity.

Thanks so much for that, :innocent:and I know what you mean, I feel guilty at times, but I really was so shocked to read of this free service in which marine biologists offer their sonar technique for free, to recover drowning victims. One man had been searched for for months, they found him in 6 minutes! So I really wanted them to at least be aware....

No it wasn't intended for any one individual, but... I apologise. I didn't realize it was thought that could be Shantina. I thought people were starting to post other similar cases, and didn't want the focus on Shantina and Azriel to be lost in this, their thread, to discussions about other cases.

I'm sorry I didn't realize why you were posting what you did.

Thanks,
BeanE

No, it wasn't aimed at any one person. I misunderstood, and thought people were beginning to post other cases that were similar. I must have been tired at the time, or just plain not paying close enough attention to what I was reading.

I'm very sorry. Everyone should please feel free to post about a case that could be Shantina.

Sincerely,
Thanks,
BeanE

Oh, I see, well that is a natural enough mistake to make, as I did post this article which went on about another woman (was trying to show it was not Shantina). No problem, and your candor is appreciated. :innocent:

I was just wondering if there has been any movement in the investigation, if there still is one, and if Shantina has been located yet. :(

No, it seems at a standstill. I wish at least Shantina could be found, to give everyone - particularly her loved ones - some sense of closure.:( I had tried suggesting to her family that they make use of a free service to find missing drowning victims, with the use of marine biology sonar devices. They do not seem interested (maybe a case of prolonging doubt = prolonging hope?)

I'm beginning to believe she's not going to surface if in the water, or be found on land if not. :(

It took Lacy P 3 to 4 months to surface, but she was weighted down.
I personally think if she is in the water, she will surface, eventually.
I'm concerned that LE doesn't appear to be going forward with the investigation, and it does trouble that they take a wait and see stance, if that's what they're doing.
If I was a family member of a missing person, that would drive me nuts, and I'd want to see everything they have on the case.

Can a family sue LE to acquire access to the file on a missing loved one? Anyone know? ita

The first step would be for them to get whatever records are available via public records laws. Other than that, IANAL, but I don't believe any state or county in the U.S. allows release of information in an investigation beyond what's available via public record laws. Any 'extra' info given to a family is by courtesy only.

What if they hired a PI - could s/he get access to those police records that are not public record?

I suppose a PI could have an attorney try to subpoena them, but I doubt they'd get them in this case. I think there would have to be another pending case to which info in the records was relevant.

Again, IANAL. Ignore me :)

BUMP for Shantina.

I know. Seems that the case has gone cold. :(

I pray she is soon found. Too many questions and no answers :(
