SMK, she was seen on the GHM surveillance cameras twice, before and after going to the DW house.

According to the article I've linked, at 9:55pm she seen peering into the windows of the store. Then, after the visit to the house, "instead of taking the couple's directions, Mealy went in the opposite direction, again being recorded on the surveillance camera of the closed market."

Oh, I see, she went back there. Thanks for that.

Instead of taking the couple's directions, Mealy went in the opposite direction, again being recorded on the surveillance camera of the closed market.

"It would be obvious with anyone with any sense, but then again, I don't know what her state of mind is, that you weren't heading toward the freeway," said Mealy.

"Unfortunately, the next thing we know is that we're recovering her van from a private beach at 11:15 a.m. the next day," he said.

Did she pull up there again or was that just driving by I wonder.

Thank you!! This is what I was referring to. I knew about the trip to the GHM before the Williams and I remembered the part about her peering into the windows of the store. I believe there is a pay phone there and I had mentioned before that I thought it was weird she didn't use that, instead she went right to the Williams house. It was like she wanted to get "in" somewhere, rather than using the pay phone. That is when I thought it might be possible someone was following her. But then for her to go there again, seems odd. Unless she was meeting someone there who she would then follow down to the beach.

Not sure where I got it from, but I believe it was where the camera caught her van driving past the GHM store, and it was noted it was in the opposite direction of the instructions given by DW at the house just prior.

Jules71, as I recall the pay phone was out of order at the GHM.

Yes, as Bean asks, did she just drive by, or stop once more, the second time, or didn't they say? I guess Lt. Mealy did not really say....

About 9:54 p.m., a store surveillance camera shows that Smiley stopped her car at the Gull Harbor Mercantile on Boston Harbor Road, but it was closed. - http://www.theolympian.com/2010/03/16/1173785/few-clues-in-search-for-mom-son.html#ixzz0iMRUPRfV

Surveillance video showed their van pulling into the parking lot of the Gulf Harbor Mercantile store shortly before 10 p.m. Smiley may have wanted to use the pay phone there, but it is out of order. The video does not show her or her son getting out of the vehicle. The van pulled out of the parking lot and headed the direction it came from. -http://www.king5.com/news/Search-to-continue-for-missing-Silverdale-mother-young-son--87648637.html

This article says they kept driving at 9:55.

Mealy said surveillance video also recorded Smiley and her son on the northwest side of Olympia peering into the windows of the Gull Harbor Market at 9:55 p.m., which was closed.

Smiley and her son kept driving, but away from the freeway.

Sounds like from all the articles, they drove up, maybe Shantina leaned over squinting to look, saw the sign on the pay phone and the store closed, and they drove on and went to the Williams. Then afterward were recorded just driving by. (?)

I guess it must have been an obvious kind of out-of-order not to get out of the car.

Like there was a sign on the phone, or there was obvious damage, perhaps.

So we have various reports about her being at the GHM at 9:54 pm. One saying she got out and was peering through the store windows and one that says neither she nor Az got out. Which is it, I wonder?

There must have been one time that they did not get out, and one time that they did, and peered in the windows?? so at 9:54 she did not get out, at 10:10 she was at the Williams phoning Grandparents, so then went back and peered in windows?? :waitasec:

It seems to me, the way it happened was - they went to the GHM, Kat got out and peered through the store windows but it was closed. Then she drove to the Williams house. Then after the Williams she turned right instead of left and was either caught driving by it again, or she stopped and they did not get out.

They could have decided to walk on the sand barefoot.
Took along the water and wine and the inhaler and
the ball.
Maybe then they went back to the van.
Or?
But what would have happened after that, I don't know.

Thinking back, I don't remember if that night was a full moon or not.

IIRC, it was a new moon.

The backpack...

My grandson carries his little backpack on short trips with his books, toys, etc. and my daughter uses her other bag for clothes. She has used her own backpack for that kind of stuff if it's simply an overnight and they don't need to take much with them. Also, thinking about the inhaler and spacer, I wonder if it's a "spare" that Azriel carried with him in his backpack?

There was a video that showed the phone and the sign on it was pretty big.

I didn't see any that said she got out?

ETA: I assume to peer through the windows, one would have to get out of the car, but I could be wrong.

I will look for the link; one did say she peered into the windows....

Right. It doesn't say she got out. We have several reports specifically saying they didn't get out at 9:55, and none that do, so it would appear they didn't get out.

I'm thinking she simply leaned forward in her seat in the car, or to the side, and peered in the windows.

Yes, she must have been leaning over as she drove, perhaps squinting toward the store on the video clip, for him to say that.

When I first read that, I took it to mean she was at the door, peering inside. What time does the market close, btw? Is it possible they close at 10 and the doors were locked 5 minutes early?
