GUILTY WA - Sheryl Huntley, 40, shot to death, Selah, 1 July 2009

I've only been visiting sporadically. Do I understand correctly that the gun was fired INSIDE the car? There should be clear evidence somewhere--unless Stephen is claiming the bullet went through his hand and out the window. If the driver's side window is open, then pepper spray would blow back in his face if the assailant is in the passenger seat. If both windows are open everybody gets it. Which hand was he using the pepper spray in, the wounded one? Because one hand has to hold the steering wheel.

Not saying the guy did it...BUT...I'm picturing an argument in the car...he get's angry and smacks her or threatens her with the gun...she pepper sprays him (he/him being Stephen) and he shoots...Maybe he's mentioning the pepper spray because he knows they'll find residue and he wants to explain it away...or maybe not...I'd hate to be Stephen right now because if he DIDN'T do it, it would be hard to cope with...his partner being killed right in front of him and he's accused of the murder...uggh!

Her poor boys.....
Did this guy attend her funeral??

Prayers to her family.

When going through the Academy, I had to be Pepper sprayed. I can tell you that I could not see, and I have never had anything sting and burn like that did. No way I could have driven or even done anything and I refuse to believe this idiot Stephen did either. Anyone he would have come in contact with in the next hour would have burning eyes as well. It gets in your hair and even seems to reactivate when you wash it out of your hair.

LE does not always tell us everything. I am willing to bet a bunch this guy did NOT drive a car after pepper spray was discharged in it. I can guarantee that much. Ask any LE officer you know that question.

This guy killed her and he will be charged, IMO.

I'm wondering if he was shot through the back of his hand or did the bullet enter through the palm of the hand and exit through the backside of the hand. Does any of you know? Looks like if the pepper spray canister was in the same hand, it would have also been hit by the bullet..

Yeah, Stephen was a very busy fellow what with driving with one hand, struggling with the hitchhiker with the other one and spraying pepper spray with the THIRD one................ I'm assuming that he finally managed to stop the car because the hitchhiker probably didn't jump out of a moving car, right? Hinky, hinky, hinky...........

i found out in the last few days that he went back to montana
that ticks me off

Don't worry, when LE is ready they can get him back! LE cannot call him a suspect unless they have evidence that conclusively points to him. And they can't stop him from going out of state until they have enough evidence to arrest. And an absence of evidence to show that someone else was in the car isn't enough to make an arrest. They will have to find some proof that he was the shooter.

Gun fired in the car, residue will be on everything and everyone inside the car. Pepper spray sprayed in the car, will be on everything and everyone inside the car. Which means LE can't use those things to rule someone else out.

My question would be, who did the pepper spray belong to? IMO if a man wants protection he is more likely to buy a gun or a taser. But a woman is more likely to buy pepper spray. I know, not every man or every woman, but most. It just seems more likely to me that the pepper spray probably belonged to her. So where did she keep it? In her purse or the car? Would he know exactly where to find it and would it have been easy to grab?

The guy was allegedly struggling with the alleged hitchhiker, driving, being shot in the hand, looking for the pepper spray and spraying the spray. Does he wear a cape with a big S on it or something?

My theory would be that they were arguing in the car, he was driving. He struck out at her, maybe pulled hair. She pulled the pepper spray and sprayed him. He pulled over, and wiped his eyes, angry and in pain. He pulled a gun and shot her. He considers he has a problem, he wipes down the pepper spray and gun, comes up with a scenario to cover the crime. Since he is in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night, hitchhiker becomes a natural scapegoat. He had to explain the pepper spray, so in his story he as macho man used the spray. I wonder if they found his prints on it or no prints?

ok this is what i have heard so far (was out of town a few days)
he steven went back to Montana
yes he went to funeral
with his shot hand (straight through the palm)
the boys did go to funeral

and yes he did hit her (Sheryl)
plus he was also in prison for 12 years
for multiple reasons
so you all tell me what i am supposed to think because i know the LE needs all his ducks in a row but why cant they tell us the public anything concrete
for one thing usually they do a sketch but not this time? why is that?

CSC the fact that LE didn't make a sketch is one of the indications that they are questioning the story that they were given IMO. If they have any questions about the accuracy of the description they are given, they aren't going to put a sketch out there. But it sometimes takes time to gather and test all the evidence. That is hard to accept to friends and family. Especially when they have to sit at a funeral with him, especially when they see him seeming to go on with his life, without concern.

But better they do make sure, better they get all the evidence they can and make sure they do things right. Because the only thing harder than waiting on them to make an arrest, is for them to make an arrest and then let them go because they didn't do everything right or didn't have enough evidence to back it up. So the fact that they are taking their time is a good thing, as long as they are doing it right and closing any loopholes in the case. Hang in there.

Stephen's extremely detailed description of the hitchhiker just boggles my mind. The only thing that he maybe left out was that the hitchhiker's eyes were tightly closed, due to being sprayed with an entire cannister of pepper spray, as he leaped from the car and ran away either down the interstate or up the interstate, up the mountains on one side of the car or maybe he jumped into the lake on the other side of the car, who knows?

He also got shot in the hand while everything was going on and above and beyond all of that he was able to describe that hitchhicker to a tee. What a guy. Hopfully there will be an arrest soon.

I check this thread every day hoping to see an arrest. One day I firmly believe that I will check here and see that Stephen has been arrested.

me too...on both counts.

I mentioned this case to DH to get a male opinion on it. First thing he said was that there is no way he would have let me get killed, the "hitchiker" would have had to kill him too. Or, if I did get killed, DH would have been in a lot worse shape since he would have run the guy down, run him over, or done various other things to the guy.

Second thing DH mentioned was that there is NO WAY he would look at the guy's rear end to see what kind of pants he had on. DH wants to know at what point in time this guy had a chance to check out the hitchiker's rear.

Me too!

I was checking yesterday all over the net for any news update. The last news article I could find was from July 9th.

Hopefully LE has been testing all the evidence and we will learn the results soon.

If there really is a "hitchhiker robber/murder" out there, you would think LE would be keeping the nearby public informed on their progress on finding the perp.

However, the lack of any new info regarding the gunman, or whether or not Stephen may be involved, leaves us all wondering if this murder will be solved.

Trying to have patience. Hoping they are actively looking for the real killer.

I was laughing so hard I was crying when I read this. My husband totally agrees with your husband. I mean, "blue work pants" is one thing, but whose gonna know they're Dickies unless you're looking at his behind? The guy was wearing red, white and blue? In what gang universe does this ever happen? None that I have heard of. Was he just being patriotic anticipating the upcoming holiday?Like your husband also said, who isn't going to give him a taste of the grill at the very least? And who picks up a hitchhiker at 3 am at a rest stop? Nobody. Nobody did this time, either. I just hope they find some evidence because this guy is an idiot.

  • #98
we have heard a lot of nothing for a while
see my thing is the gangs around here either where blue or red not both
see he (Steven) could remember everything about the hitchhiker but cant remember where he got out at
bull**it
im sorry i do not believe anything he is saying
they cops let him go home i just hope he will brag about it to one of his friends.....or his next girlfriend (or next victim)

i hate this waiting
i wish this would get over with for the boy's sake

  • #99
LE let him out to see what he is doing, believe me they are watching his every move. How can you get shot right smack in the middle of your plam?? Unless you had the gun in your own hand and aimed it down into your palm very carefully.

Also my husband would have killed this hitchiker after he killed me woud have at least faught harder gotten shot a few more times...OH WAIT I forgot the pepper spry blinded hitchhiker JUMPED from the vehicle and ran!
