Astonished that prosecution asks to send jury back to continue deliberating, that is not how it works, if they don't all agree he should get the DP then he automatically gets LWOP,

millions of dollars and years wasted and we get to the same outcome that could have been arrived at years ago, he would plead to LWOP in exchange for DP being off the table and testify against her at her trial,

Is that all for today? My screen went black on both links. **sigh**

he will have a formal sentencing hearing at a later date, the judge will confirm his sentence as LWOP

I see Michele's trial has been delayed again until 2016, she will also be going for a mental health defence

one report says jury was 8-4 in favour of DP

KOMO mentioned fall 2015? But what do I know...I just want them locked away..

just another perfect example of dp needing to be abolished. It seems that a jury faced with dp vs life is just hung more often than not. It is just not a situation where you can get people to move to the other side...if I really believed he should be put to death I could not move down to life and the split in this one indicated that the mitiigating factors were compelling. One juror mentioned that immediately. I have seen some comments that the jury was not death qualified...yes they were but that does not mean they must vote death. I think the death penalty is obsolete.

I don't think the DP was or is ever a valid sentence, if I knew my only two choices were death or life in prison I know which one I would prefer, I could not stand to be locked away in a steel box for the rest of my life, with limited choice over everything I did,

if Joe wishes to make any recompense for his crimes then he could volunteer to testify at Michele's and ensure her jury knows the full story

McEnroe won’t address court when he is formally sentenced

McEnroe apologized in a prepared statement read during his trial last month. “I have not been trying to absolve nor excuse myself for my failure and my part in your grief,” he said. “It is simply part of my debt to you, all of you, and to those I’ve killed.”

On Wednesday, McEnroe will be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murders of Wayne, 60, and Judy Anderson, 61; their son Scott and his wife, Erica Anderson, both 32; and the younger couple’s children, 5-year-old Olivia and 3-year-old Nathan.

Thanks everyone for keeping the info up to date on this case. I just found out about it from the Sword and Scale podcast. Worth listening to - Joe's testimony shows him to be a lying, manipulative 🤬🤬🤬 imo. Fake remorse and fake mental health problems. Absolutely sickening that a whole family were wiped out for no reason at all :(
Shocking that it has taken so long to come to trial - with Michele's trial still to come!

Before condemning McEnroe to a life behind bars, (Judge) Ramsdell placed six carnations and placards in the courtroom gallery representing the dead – Anderson’s parents Judy and Wayne Anderson, her brother and sister-in-law Scott Anderson and Erika Mantle Anderson, and that couple’s children 5 ½-year-old Olivia and 3-year-old Nathan.
“That empty bench and those six carnations symbolize the lives you’ve taken,” Ramsdell said.
“The horrible fate that befell them should never have fallen on any human being,” he continued before reflecting on the bruising years of legal wrangling that followed the killings.

Noting that McEnroe had benefited from the mercy he cruelly denied those he killed, Ramsdell said the dead have never been far from the minds of those close to the investigation and prosecution.
“I can assure you that the victims have not and will not be forgotten,” said Ramsdell, who previously ruled out the death penalty in the case only to be overruled by a higher court.
Having sentenced McEnroe, the judge called for a moment of silent remembrance before dismissing those gathered.

The death penalty has been withdrawn for Michelle, but no plea deal has been made. Jury selection is taking place, and:

O’Toole said he expects opening statements to be given Jan. 19, exactly one year and one day after opening statements were given in McEnroe’s trial..

Anderson’s mental competency has been called into question repeatedly since her arrest, and she has spent some time at a state mental hospital since her arrest. It’s unclear whether her mental state during the killings will figure in her defense.
