Wow! About all I can say except who lets their 14 year old go to a rave party with guys in their 20's? In fact, who lets their minor children go to a rave party period? It's one thing for the adults to do it. They are free to make their own decisions, but those girls seemed to be growing up way too fast.

How horrible for the parents of these kids...all of them. My prayers are with them.

Hard to believe, isn't it????

Sad to say, but not all parents are able to know where there kids are 100% of the time. Some kids say that are at one place and then go to another.

I was faced with that reality just a few days ago when I found out that my daughter said she stayed after school to get homework help and I found out later that she was actually at someone's house that I did not approve of and met in the school parking lot as if nothing happened.

I consider myself a very responsible parent and ask my kids where they are at all times, I know how long it takes them to walk home or ride the bus, and all the like. I was so crushed to find out that she could slip by me like that and then to lie about it. I usually check on my girls when they are at someone's home or drop off and/or pick up when they are out at a public event, but it never occurred to me that I would have to call the school ot see if she was indeed getting help with homework.

Being a teenager is hard and being a parent of a teenager is hard too. I always tell my gals I love them in parting even if I am upset with them and always tell them I love them before bed, cause we'll never know what the the future has in store.

True enough, but we were talking about the father of a 14-year old girl who dropped her off at a bowling alley so she could be picked up to be taken to a party. He didn't know the adults picking up his teenager nor where the party was going to be. That's just not responsible parenting. We do our best even if we're not perfect, but what this father did is pure rubbish.

I didn't realize that he dropped her off to be picked up for this party. In that case I agree with you.

I'm not sure that is true. Where did you find that?
The story I found and posted above listed this, plus more:

Kyle Moore dropped his 14-year-old daughter off at a Tacoma bowling alley Friday night, knowing she was meeting up with older friends for a ride to a dance party in Seattle, one with a zombie theme.
He didn’t kiss her for fear of smearing her black and white makeup -- a get-up that would enable her to get into the “Better Off Undead” rave for a discounted price, $15. He didn’t hug her for fear of getting the makeup on himself.

He [her dad] described her as outgoing and friendly, intelligent but -- like himself -- a bad student who had a hard time with the structure of the classroom. He knew her older friends, who ranged in age from 16 to 21, and he trusted them.

She had recently been out all night for a St. Patrick’s Day rave. She always called, and she always came home when she said she would. Kyle said he tried to be a cool dad, so that Melissa and her 16-year-old brother, Cameron, would be open with him.

Sometimes, it worked: She admitted she smoked pot on occasion, but promised him she didn’t drink or do the harder drugs available in the rave scene.

But she did hide some things. After she got into the car with her friends on Friday, she changed into an outfit she thought her parents would have disapproved of. It involved a bra made of candy, said one friend who was there, a mohawked 16-year-old who goes only by Otterpop.

“I told her it’s not an atmosphere for young children,” said Otterpop, dressed in black with beaded bracelets covering his wrists. “She assured me she didn’t do drugs, and I had never seen her doing any. I figured everything was OK. She was just really happy to be going.” Once they arrived at the “Better Off Undead” rave, Melissa did her own thing. When the event ended, the friends her parents trusted couldn’t find her. They went home, and she went to an after-party at a blue, two-story home on Capitol Hill.

Here's an article I read:

By Saturday morning, her father was worried. He tried calling his daughter repeatedly, but her voice mail always picked up on the first ring. He began driving frantically around her familiar haunts. He drove to her friends' homes, hoping for news. He had learned of the shooting, and he had a bad feeling.

I think I was wrong about him not knowing her friends. He didn't know where the party was and since her friends didn't even know where she went either, they just went home without her. I think I would be LIVID if my daughter's "friends" did this; however, he shouldn't have allowed her to go to this sort of a party to begin with, IMO.

Kyle said he tried to be a cool dad

IMO, that is the problem with many parents.

“Kyle and Kane Huff made a point of being different from other students at Whitefish High School, said Jennelle Cassidy, a former classmate. They both wore combat boots, trench coats and mohawks and listened to heavy metal, making it so difficult to tell them apart that classmates just called them the “gentle giants” Seattle Times.

What? No alarm bells? Yeah, I know, “It’s just a fad.” Sounds a lot like Columbine revisited to me.

Yes it does Vetforbush. I think that Kyle actually had something much bigger planned(not that killing 6 people isn't big). I think that he had planned to do the shooting at the Rave and for some reason didn't. He was not invited to the after party until he was at the Rave but evidently already had the arsonal in his vehicle. He obviously had something planned when he left his apartment with all of those weapons.

I agree, but when he got to the rave, he would find out that they did weapons checks at the door and security was tight. For some reason he didn't go blasting in there with the guns, thank goodness.

He did post in early February on a chat board looking for a rave. I wonder why he was looking for a rave? Wondering why he was searching one out?
I wonder if the theme - "better off undead" - had anything to do with his choice or something?
I don't know, I'm stretching here.
I wish we knew more.

Ravers: Killer Was Stalking Them Before Shootings

[font=verdana, arial, geneva]SEATTLE - Did the gunman in the Capitol Hill shootings that left seven dead Sunday morning intentionally target his victims? Monday, police said they believed Kyle Huff planned the attack, but now there's evidence Huff intentionally targeted ravers, and had been watching them.

Police say they have nothing solid in this arena, but KOMO 4 News has talked to many in the rave community who now say they believe Huff stalked them like a hunter in the months before the mass shootings here.

Huff posted an e-mail on a popular techno Web site saying: "I've never been to a rave...was wondering if anyone could tell me when one is coming up."
That was posted on Feb. 1.

Huff: ' ... almost a smile as he fired'

One young man told Seattle police detectives he invited Kyle Huff to his after-hours party because he was "sketchy" and gave off "bad vibes" -- and he thought it would be entertaining to have someone like that at his house.

Another resident of the Capitol Hill house told police he later heard loud bangs and screams outside, peeked through the blinds and saw Huff, shotgun at his hip, blasting rounds into the front door with "a look of contentment on his face -- almost a smile as he fired."

The is the text of the letter of apology written by Kyle Huff following the July 2, 2000 shooting of a moose sculpture. Dear Mr. Rawlings,

I am writing this letter to you in an effort to apologize for a stupid, drunken act that I comited (sic) about this same time a year ago.

I am to blame for the shooting of your moose on the loose known as Daphney. I don't really know what to say to you, or how exactly to apologize, but I want you to know that this act was not a personal attack, and that it was not intended to bring you or your family any sort of stress. I did what I did mostly because of the influence of alcohol. I know that this is not a very good excuse, but I still hope that you can accept this sincere apology.

I am very sorry about this. Please forgive me for any stress this has caused you.

Kyle Huff

Kind of the extreme of the old tavern brawler who kicks the door in and shouts, "I am going to kick the biggest *#%**'s arse in the house!" New generation does it with bullets instead of fists. Sort of makes you shudder wondering what the next few generations have in store of us.

I think this kid just wanted to go out in a blaze of glory and for some unknown reason, he targeted kids at a rave party instead of a bunch of little kids at a day care or the folks at McDonalds.
