WA-Teen returning airsoft gun to Renton store fatally shot by off-duty guard.

Where does it say that he was appointed by the mayor? I see he was removed by the mayor

I'm not sure that it matters, but that was my reading of both the city's press release announcing the committee and the city's follow up press release acknowledging the shooting and saying that Myers had been removed. JMO

It does matter if it’s not a known fact. Saying that the mayor appointed him is a pretty big statement of false

Washington state law says that airsoft guns must have the orange tip. Myers should have seen that. Certainly being a "gun guy", he would have known what that meant.
The boy had the "gun" in his waist band, so if there was an orange tip, it would not have been visible.

Myers told the teens to toss the gun aside, which they did. It would have been visible on the ground.

"Aaron Brown Myers, the man charged with murdering 17-year-old Hazrat Ali Rohani outside of a Renton sporting goods store, has posted the $2 million bond set by the King County Superior Court, records show. Myers pleaded not guilty and his attorneys unsuccessfully petitioned the court last month to reduce his bail to $100,000."

Am I reading correctly?

Tries to get $10,000 bond then doesn't get it but no worry he then posts a 2 million bond?

Do I need my eyes examined?

trying to check the docket on this case and while I can pull the screen that shows Myers case:

Case Number Filing Date Case Name Charge/Cause of Action Next Hearing Status
24-1-04367-1 KNT 06/10/2024 STATE OF WASHINGTON VS MYERS, AARON BROWN MURDER-2 NO PREMED/DEATH OF ANTHR Omnibus Calendar 10/30/2024 Active 06/21/2024

I cannot get that case number to open. I get an error screen when I click the clickable case number. grrrr. This case is very frustrating.

Very little is out there to sleuth on the accused. Unnamed powerful friends speaking on his behalf. $2 million in bail raised out of seemingly nowhere. No news. Its as if we are being told "nothing to see here, move along now"

What gives!?

Zero updates on this case. Still. I want to know why. :(

court site shows only a series of status type hearings and endless continuances. It doesn't show any trial date certain or much in the way of real activity.

It is ridiculous that there has been zero movement in this case and the press and public have moved on apparently. This guy is a menace and a danger to society.

Very frustrating with these endless delays, hearings, etc, but par for the course in many states and localities.
I followed a murder case in Florida where there were literally hundreds of hearings etc before a trial was finally held. That was the murder of Nancy Bruneau by her adult son, who was judged not guilty by reason of insanity after TWELVE YEARS of delays and committed indefinitely to a mental hospital.

The irony of the Beau Bruneau trial is took about a week once it got started, twelve years after his arrest. Unreal. Poor Florida taxpayers...

This case isn't even quite a year old. No murder case goes to trial that fast. The Blaze Bernstein murder in California took 6 and a half years to get to a verdict and Woodward didn't even deny he was the killer.

true, we are all accustomed to the long process of waiting for trial. But the docket will reflect status hearings punctuated by the usual administerial filings, subpoenas discovery etc. and occasional motions and then rulings on those motions. This docket only shows a long series of nothings. It feels as if nobody is really working it, prosecution and defense.

It also burns my chaps how quickly this guy was bonded out. He's walking around awaiting this trial in some distance future, meanwhile a young man is dead, for simply existing in the sphere of this psycho's "overwatch" area.

Most of the cases that I’m following are in a slow crawl and I’ve just gotten used to it.

his home, if I recall from my sleuthing the early days right after the shooting, is not titled in his name. So he either rents, or . . .

the complete lack of an online presence combined with the weird secrecy around revealing his photo and the odd assortment of people who testified as character witnesses has me low key half wondering if dude was in witness protection program prior to the murder.
quoting myself because to date we've still never seen an image of the man who murdered this teen in cold blood in a parking lot for - gasp - walking into a sporting good store with his broken airsoft gun to conduct business.

Why is this man getting special treatment. kid gloves? what makes him so special?

So, I thought this was odd too. I checked and it appears that Washington State does not release mug/booking photos. It does seem odd that no local media has been able to obtain on image of him though.

I said it months ago and I'll say it again: for holding himself out to be such an involved pillar of the community, it seems strange that there isn't an actual face photo of him ANYWHERE.

This news article from last year has photos of the victim's father, victim's family members, the judge, but only a photo of part of the back of Myers. It's the closest I've been able to find of a photo of him: https://www.seattletimes.com/seattl...-fatal-shooting-of-teen-outside-renton-big-5/

This new article has a video in which the reporter says Myers' attorney has asked for his face to not be recorded in the courtroom because Myers has received threats on websites. The judge granted the request. Suspect in deadly shooting of teen outside Renton BIG 5 pleads not guilty

Should've thought about those "threats on websites" before he murdered someone in cold blood. What a coward. MOO.

I'll go further and say I don't believe his judgment on what a credible threat is consider the crime that got him charged in the first place.

But the judge has ruled and we are stuck with that. I look forward to his trial and conviction so I can finally get a look at this man.

Medina-Zelaya was the first of two Kent-Meridian High School students fatally shot in a three-day period in June 2024.

Hazrat Ali Rohani, 17, was shot June 5, 2024 outside a Big 5 Sporting Goods Store in Renton. Aaron Brown Myers, of Newcastle, faces a second-degree murder charge in that case. Myers is on electronic home detention and faces a trial date of Sept. 9, although the trial date has been continued numerous times at the request of attorneys.
