My uneducated opinion is that, in contrast to Oz, there is a wider variation of accents in North America than there is in Australia. This is particularly true in the U.S. The Canadian accent is similar to a Mid-West American accent, so, if someone is from that region versus from Canada, I could understand that someone might say a 'slight' Canadian accent. They might mean that it sounds Mid-West American, with a slight twist.
BTW, in Canada, like in Oz, there isn't much variation in accent for English speakers, until you get to the very far east coast (Newfoundland and Cape Breton Island), where they have a rural Irish country lilt.
I wonder with post 9/11, Lyle was not allowed to cross the border due to lack of proper identification. Could he have been trying to get to Canada? Running from the law? Was he turned back? Was he unable to board a vessel to leave the country? I just wish they would try to track lot numbers on the toothpaste and serial numbers on where the money was originally from. Long shot, but might give an area. I keep talking about the same things...![]()
The thing I keep going back to is the pacing. WHY was he pacing up and down the side of the road - was he plotting? Waiting for someone? Arguing with himself about suicide?

With his DNA couldn't they do one of those tests that reveals a persons ancestry and possible relatives? At least then they would know if he's Native American, European, etc.

Good point which we should factor against the fact the hotel where he was found was in washington state; wouldnt they be quite familiar with a canadian accent due to the border proximity?
I sent Lyle's case worker a few of his main photos along with Carl's recon to show her how different he looks. She was able to get Carl's recon added.

What's her name and contact? I want to see if she can replace the "potato quality" autopsy photo with a better quality one.
Not sure if you got my PM here or on FB. If you'd like a link to the adoption group I go to; PM me.
If your brother was told he was adopted; it's possible he's going to order a family tree DNA kit from 23andme. It's the cheapest one out there & has the largest database. A LOT of adoptees are doing it to try to find their birth parents. You as well as your dad or male sibling should submit one in case he tries it. I'll copy a post on an adoption site to explain how to get your DNA into other sites as well...
There are groups of DNA search angels who will help you and educate you on how this works so you can then help others. People are finding their relatives every single WEEK~! do 23andme.com $99 and once you have those results upload to FTDNA (Family tree DNA) for about $99 and to GEDmatch and a DNA Tools site DNAgedcom.com both free.
23 and me- buy 1 kit at $99 get additional kits 20% off! They're really trying to have the largest registry!
How this offer works:
* Requires purchase of one kit at full price ($99)
* 20% off applies to each additional kit purchased in the same order
* Redeem online following the offer link
* No promo code needed
23 and me Ancestry Service. $99
IIRC, Colleen Fitzpatrick did it for Banjaman Kyle. I believe the ME has to contact 23 and me to get the info uploaded
I was going to post about it; 2-3 months ago but got busy
Benjaman Kyle - *As of November 2012 noted forensic genealogist Colleen Fitzpatrick is collaborating with DNA testing company 23andMe for pro bono autosomal testing. By compiling an extensive family tree based on his DNA matches, she has identified a set of second cousins from the Western Carolinas who are collaborating with her to determine Benjaman's identity.
From my post in Christopher Enoch Abeyta. I looked into 23andme more; they need saliva so that is out. Then my reply in post 604 here. BTW, she is close to figuring out BK's name.
Saliva - and a lot of it! I was spitting into that tube for about 20 minutes - thinking about lemons and limes the entire time.
(thanks for the CEA and BK updates, too!)
