FLDS opponents say wrong man named in warrant
Girl's husband is related to Dale Barlow, shares surname, they say
....
But Holm said the girl's identity, and the correct identity of her husband, is "common knowledge" in Colorado City, Ariz., and Hildale, Utah, where the sect has traditionally been based.
................
She believes it is possible the teenager did not know her husband's correct age and told authorities he is about 50. Also, she noted, Dale Barlow has a 2007 conviction in Arizona for criminal charges related to marrying and impregnating a different 16-year-old girl, which may have contributed to confusion.

Thats a good indication of what a confusing mess this will be for authorities. They have a rough road ahead of them.

Lion...........tonight on Larry King, one of the reporters said that he used the word "women" loosely because many of the adult women are only 18 or perhaps a few years older. In other words, the adult women in this case are actually young adults. It would appear that the children in this case are any that are 17 or younger, and if any are 18, they're part of the "adult women" who've been removed.

Thank you Leila:).

...Why do you think some have the drive to get out, like you did, but others stay?...
I actually saw a Dateline? special about two girls who escaped. One of the girls eventually went back on her own because that was the only life that she had known; and she wasn't able to adjust to the "outside" world. The other girl was thriving. I think that she was even in college, which I thought was a miracle since these girls have very limited education! I was saddened that the one girl just couldn't adapt.

IIRC, this special covered years. It showed the girls when they escaped to how they changed their styles and attitudes. At first, it was like a time warp. It was nice to see how the one girl went from really geeky looking to changing to a typical teen. The other girl just couldn't adapt and returned to her compound. I often wondered what type of punishment she received for escaping. :(

I will be back to. I am heading to bed and will check posts tomorow aft 2pm EST and see if I can offer anything else. Night everyone
Okay, I was going to quote your 9 a.m. post, but it is now deleted! Anyway, I was curious to hear some details about your life. Can you tell me your age and if an organization run by other women who escaped helped you? What was your educational level at your compound? Did you further your education after you left? Are you working? Were you married off? Did you have children? Feel free to only answer questions that you feel comfortable answering. :blowkiss:

It is mind-blowing that our government allows these type of cults to exist here on U.S. soil. It's scary, too. It must have taken the ultimate courage to actually escape because I do believe you when you say that women who refused to go along with the program were beaten and even murdered.

Ladybass....for your own safety please continue to err on the side of caution. 99.9% of us here understand your need to do so.

May I ask how you gained access to a computer and got out? You are obviously out now and safe but you are making statements and then being very cryptic. Raped from age 3 months? If you were in a cult and got out have you talked to the authorities so that they can do something about this cult? As I said you are obviously out now and safe and with access to a computer so I see no reason why you can't answer these questions as they are not personal and will not put you in harms way whatsoever. Thank you.

We're going to stop the personal attacks right now. If you've got an issue with someone's post direct your comments to the issues, not your opinion of the poster.

I've deleted the offending posts I found in a quick review that did not belong at all. Now everyone gets a chance to go back and self-edit their posts to remove any and all personal attacks. As always, we don't care who started it. Just fix it.

thanks adnoid :blowkiss:

For anyone (Glow?) who was concerned about the men being held at the compound, according to this morning's newspaper report, the men were free to leave any time they wished. Only if they left during the search, they wouldn't be able to return while the search was still going on.

I think that clears up any "human rights" issues concerning the men.

Ladybass, I respect your request to remain anonymous for your own safety. But can you share with us whether the cult you fear is a part of the Mormon offshoot polygamist cults like FLDS, or is it something most of us have never heard of?

Thank you Pepper! :blowkiss:

I would have to say for me it "ends" the human rights issue that was going on but it is only cleared up if Tx. had the legal right to hold innocent men for what has it been now 5 days? I had thought that a person could only be held for 24 hours without being charged. I dont know that for sure though. Anyone else know how long a person can be held against their will without being charged?

Just to clarify, I am not talking about HOW long they hold the men who are suspected of having had sex with underaged girls OR who have abused children. I know everyone has "rights" under the law. However am wondering about any men who got caught in the same net with the ones breaking the law who hadnt broken any laws at all.

There is suposed to be a hearing today, does anyone know what time?

Well I didnt know that or read that anywhere. I guess I got my thinking from the newspaper reports that said the men were being "held".

No Moe, sure don't.

So I guess they are done? 416 children (all of them?) and 139 adults (women?). All I can say is WOW!

Wouldn't you love to be a fly on the wall during the meetings the men must be having about now?

  • #596
Yes! I would! I would also love to be a fly on the wall where the LE headquarters are

Extensive article:

.......
In this isolated religious society north of the Grand Canyon, few secrets have been more closely guarded than the presence of fumarase deficiency. Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints elders, who control the community, have labored to keep the public from finding out why the disorder is manifesting. Many members of the fundamentalist community don't even know it's occurring.

Here are the email addresses of the three Mohave Co., AZ Supervisors. I couldn't find anything for a District Attorney or Child Protective Services. I suggest we write each of them and demand that they take a lesson from Texas and do something to protect the children in Colorado City.

From my newspaper (this is an Associated Press story)

"An unknown number of male and female church members were at the ranch while authorities completed the search of the gleaming 8-foot-high temple, a cheese-making plant, a cement plant, a school, a doctor's office and housing units.

Tela Mange, a spokeswoman for the Department of Public Safety, said Tuesday that the adults were not being held, but if they left the compound, they could not return while the search continued.

Investigators said some of the children were unwilling or unable to provide the names of their biological parents or identified multiple mothers."

Include Utah in that. While Utah has taking some "token" steps. There is much room for improvement.
