Hmmmmmm...........the FBI now has a search warrant, so they're now looking for something that is federal - something that crosses state lines. In order to obtain that warrant, the FBI had to present a federal judge with some sort of probable cause or evidence.

I know, that is a very interesting tidbit that came out of today's hearing. I think the idea of a third party to review the evidence is unusual, but may waylay a lot of fears of the respect of the temple.

Marleigh Meisner, a CPS spokeswoman, said she believed all children at the compound have been accounted for, except for the 16-year-old girl whose call prompted the raid. Meisner said authorities fear for her safety.

I am sure they only did it for the food stamps and the medicaid anyway...Looks like they had pretty nice 'digs' to live in. I think they spent every moment at that compound so I guess they really didn't even need the cash benefits. They had it all worked out huh?! :waitasec: I am wondering how the girl who called had a chance to make a phone call and how she knew who to call to begin with? I am very worried about her right now.

Most of these women probably won't even have their kids taken away. A certain amount of kids will be taken and sent to various homes and agencies. These women will probably move back to another state where there's better welfare payments. Anyone expecting to be able to live on welfare in Texas better forget it. There's no cash payments and no help with utilities either. They might get a small stipend of cash each month which wouldn't be over $83 for one child, foodstamps, and low rent housing which requires a person to work and look for work.

How PC of the Salt Lake Tribune, but what one might expect given the churche's "official" stance on polygamy. Why doesn't someone in Utah grow some? This church with their special underwear has serious problems and until they deal with them, the sects (and oh yes, FLDS isn't the only one) will continue while they continue their misogynistic attitude. No wonder Utah has the highest rate of use of anti-depressants in the country. This makes me furious.

Yes the LDS has disavowed the FLDS, but there's no denying their roots come from the same place - Joseph Smith and the gold tablets, and many of their theological beliefs are the same.

Some would argue Phelps and Babtists have the same core belief. But they are in practice not the same at all.

Maybe the 16 yr old has already run away and wanted to expose what she had left behind to help the other girls. She certainly would not give a true story of any of the girls there as maybe her plan wouldn't work and whatever girl she told about would be in huge trouble.

Just kidding! I think it is terrible that the people in the FDLS had to wear longjohns under their clothes in the hot desert. )

I don't know if the FDLS (or Westboro Baptist, for that matter) are formally considered churches for tax purposes, etc. or not. I would imagine that they are, but are there any requirements for becoming a church, such as agreeing to abide by the laws?

Hi SuziQ, I wa going to highlight some of your post to answer but then I realized I wanted to throw my 2 cents in about all of it. This is all just my opinion. I was raised a Mormon. I quit going to church when I was about 17 My father died around then and he was the glue that kept us in church. Anyway, if you've never been a member it's hard to know how much even LDS members stick together. I have no doubt if the LDS members were to band together and try to eliminate these sects they could accomplish it, even going through legal measures. I think they do consider them the "red headed stepchild "of the Mormon church and they only look away. There are many mainstream Mormons who have relatives in these sects. Long lost relatives because I'm sure they never see each other. They are always very quick to point out that these sects are not a part of the mainstream church and they are not. But the Morman church is ohhh so powerful AND wealthy!! There ARE things they could do but they don't. As for the Tribune, I would bet money at least 75% of those who work there are Mormons. Probably more than that.

I too worry about the girl, but I now understand why they haven't found her. According to what I read, in her first call she made most of the allegations. Her second call started with allegations, but at the end she recanted.

Now she is possibly in with a group of other FLDS women who may or may not be giving their right names, may or may not be giving their right ages, and may or may not be giving the right names of their children and husbands.

They say when she made the call she spoke quietly because of fear of being overheard. So she may be taking her cues from the women around her. Will she finally admit? That will be a huge step for her. She called about herself, now all the children and most of the women have been removed.... she could very well be having second thoughts because she called about herself and she probably knows some women who believed and who wanted to stay but didn't because their children were taken.

But I too worry. If they find the girl, there will definately be charges. If they don't find the girl, will it put the raid, the other charges and etc in question? If they don't find the "fruit" will the whole tree collapse? If there is any question of that, then they could have possibly heard about her call and determined to make sure she could't be questioned.

Your perspective is very much appreciated, trixie. I have gotten that impression from news reports, clearly the LDS does not consider the FDLS to be members still of the LDS.

Do you know whether the FDLS themselves still consider themselves to be LDS? Thanks.

BTW I may be heading down to Texas to help the authorites, based on my cult experience. They have told me that they could aboslutly use, me, and will set further details up. These children need people that understand mind control more so then plain therapy at this time.

The thing that bothers me about these pictures is that they are dressed in normal clothing. The girls have cut their hair and they are not wearing the long dresses. What's up with that?

lol, I could never joing the LDS church because I can't stand layers, ugh! And I would have to give up my cigs and coffee. I'd have to kill someone if they took that from me!
