Was Jose Baez retained by Casey on June 17, 2008?

It was the phone all the nannys phone calls went in and out of thats why she had no phone number for the nanny it was in the lost phone. I will try to find you the thread it was dicussed on. Along with the numbers for all the people that she told about the kidnapping.

I don't believe that there ever was another phone. She just needed an excuse for why she didn't have any of the numbers. I mean really, she said Universal gave her a phone... we all knew she didn't work at Universal.

It is interesting though. I am going to believe that it was a mistake but it would be nice for the media to bring this to light, forcing Jose to admit he made a mistake in dates and if he doesn't correctit then WOW!!

At the 5:50 mark on the video CA starts talking to LA about the missing cell phone. My interpretation of the convo is Lee is trying to get ZG phone number from all previous convo's/text CA had with ZG. This being prior to Caylee going missing. The funny thing is, CA should have known her own cell number, right?

IMO, the "lost" blackberry is a lie. After Casey was booked in July, she told LE that she had spoken with Caylee the day before and Caylee had talked about her book.

LE found no evidence of that call on her then cell phone either.

Jose B. joined the defense team because Casey CALLED him. Casey received the reference and Jose number from an inmate while in line for being booked into the Orange County Jail. Jose told Casey he needed a 5k retainer fee. Casey said: “NO problem I have the money in my account and can pay you when I get out.” This is according to Cindy Anthony under oath statement to Det. Allen. Det. Allen asked (at separate times) Cindy and George: “How is it that Jose became Casey Attorney.” Of course Casey did not have the 5k to give Jose BUT Jose had already completed the paper work to be Casey attorney of record. If you note the paperwork Casey actually lie or I should say tried to lie and say she has an income and savings on her indigent paperwork status filing. (paraphrasing added by me)

I'm not going to attempt to guess on this one, BUT maybe the SA already knows he was retained in June so no need to correct him? I still tend to think it was a slip but there are many possibilities as always:waitasec:

1) Actually, KC told Lee that some other inmates in booking told her about him and "she told them to pass her number along to Jose". As if some other inmates cared or could make their 1 phone call for her! Supposedly, he came to see her the next day.

2) Househunting?? Really?? She didn't have a job!

3) Maybe she wasn't house hunting but rather, attorney hunting! You know how KC takes one situation & spins it to help her create her lies!

So Casey retained Baez as her lawyer 2 days after Caylee was last seen alive!

And what reason did Casey give Baez to retain him on June 17?
You don't retain a criminal defense lawyer for no reason.

Also, did Baez know at this time Casey had no money?

Dates seem to be a source of confusion in this case from the very beginning. The entire Anthony family, Lee, George, Cindy and Casey at first reported the last time they saw Caylee was the weekend of June 9. Oh, but wait, the video of Calyee singing with her great-grandfather at the nursing home comes to light and then, yes, it was June 15, Father's Day, she was last seen.
I think June 17th was a slip of the tongue for Baez. He rarely seems to get anything right anyway. I do wish someone had caught this mistake while he was on the stand. Seems everyone was asleep at the wheel in the court room at that time.
However...we can count on WS members to catch it. You sleuthers don't miss a thing! :Jumpie:

Whatever the truth is on this, it's more proof that Baez is incompetent. Everyone here knows my opinion on this guy. Mason is a heavy hitter and I expect him to take the lead on the heavy lifting from now on. The retention date will be explained away.

There have been mis speaks on the prosecution side too. Clerical errors as well.
YM said he took the pontiac on July 17 during a bond hearing under oath. but we know he took it on July 16 and there is all kinds of documentation to prove that.
Wasn't Cindy's wrong infomation attached to some police reports early on? i can't remember exactly but I think it was a different person all together.
My point is only that people on both sides make mistakes sometimes.

But what is interesting is watching KC, it was something she caught right after he said it and she was affected by that statement. I watched it several times and watched her eyes.
When I asked one of my 3 kids when they were young what happened in different scenarios it was interesting watching the other 2 out of 3's expression if the one questioned was lying. Is JB lying or is he telling the truth? Or is it just a mistake?

Since this case began there have been nothing but misstatements about dates. First we have Casey's police statement with Caylee taken on June 9, with other family members also giving the wrong date. Then as JBean pointedout the detectives stated the wrong date for seizing the Pontiac. I honestly believe this is just another misstatement, this time by Baez. There is no way, imo, that Baez was retained by Casey a day after Caylee's death. It is infuriating since these dates are being sworn to, under oath, in legal proceedings. Whoever speaks should be sure they are giving the correct information. :banghead: MOO

Per GA's 7-24-08 LE interview (page 51)........GA states that JB told him that KC offered $1400 as a retainer with the rest to be paid "when she gets out".
