After a lot of back and forth between attorneys from both sides about how to handle the jury’s requests, a court reporter read back Schori and Smith’s testimony to the jury.

In this day and age, why are the court reporters reading transcripts of witness testimony instead of having the jury watch a video of the witness testimony?

IMO, reading back testimony actually TAINTS the evidence. By having someone blandly read a transcript of witness testimony the jurors aren't able to watch a witness' body language, hear the tone of the witness' voice, etc.

Also read back to the jury were all of the calls between Savio’s phone and Peterson’s phone from February 28 to March 1, 2004.
Really??? They read back the phone records? Why didn't they get a hard copy so they could actually see the phone records?

I have to say that I'm a little worried after reading what the jury asked for and seeing what they received.
