I have to say, I think this story is one of the most horrific crime stories I’ve ever read, and I’ve been reading them for 50 years. I’m almost done with the book. Aphrodite did a great job of getting the back stories, and the book is mostly easy to follow along. I am not really good with names, so when an author writes about a person using just the first name, and then switches to the last name, I tend to get confused. But that’s just me…🙄

WELCOME WE ARE OFFICALLY OPEN FOR BUSINESS. IT IS THE OFFICIAL WEBSLEUTHS INVESTIGATIVE BOOK CLUB.
Our book it Aphrodite Jones Cruel Sacrifices.

We are reading the first 30 pages this week.
I am going to jump ahead to chapter one and skip the prolog for now.
Most of us know the basics of the story.
On the very first page when Aphrodite writes that "Steven" Shanda's father let her go to a party that night I'm thinking OMG is this where they kill her? Nope. She came back but it was the night those teens started to plot.

Im so glad Jones gets to the point of what was going to happen by page 2

It is going to take a while to get used to how this works.
Remember you don't need to be here at a certain time to post. You come. Read the posts. Make your posts then come back when you can and read some more.
The first two weeks we will be discussing the first 30 pages

The fact that you have been reading true crime for 50 years and this book is imprinted on your brain as one of the most horrific says a lot.

Oh I thought there was something today? Now I'm confused

Yes it is Janet. Just start posting your thoughts. We are talking about the first 30 pages. We may move it along faster but it depends on how things go here. It will take us a bit to get the kinks out.

I have read and watched this story years ago. These girls remind me of the slender man killers.

I just joined Websleuths. I'm asking for the link. It's [email protected], right?
Yes but @SensibleCrime you are at the link and you are at the right place. Read for a bit and you will see how the discussion works. It is easy but can be confusing until you figure it out. I'm going to comment on what "Stella" said in just a moment in another post.

I had to set it down a few times. The details made me cry and cringe. I feel so sad for her. No one deserves that. When Melinda said she felt bad, I'm like now you feel bad kinda too late for that.

That is so true. It proves that even 30 or so years ago horrific crimes were happening. This isn't just a new phenomenon. I don't think these teenagers understood the horrific nature of what they were about to do.

I read this book many years ago. It’s the book that introduced me to Aphrodite’s writing. I find her books completely immersive. You just fall right into the story. In regard to this case. I’m really enjoying reading the book again. I find it completely shocking. For me that says a lot. I think it has to do with Shanda’s age and that 4 girls went along with this. Mob mentality but still.

RIGHT @Chimpmunk43. She felt bad AFTER but it is a little too late.
Scientist say our brains don't stop developing until we hit about 25. I don't think they had any idea what was going to happen after they killed Shonda
