Nina also stated in her phone interview to CBS8 that "Rebecca asked me 'Are you good with directions?' and she handed me her cellphone". (At Audio 00:03:30) So we know Nina had gotten her fingerprints on Rebecca's cellphone, and we know Jonah's voicemail on Wed 12:50am was deleted from Rebecca's cellphone. Perhaps Nina included this statement to cover herself for the fact that if the investigators did forensics on Rebecca's cellphone, Nina's prints would be found on it.

As many calls, txts that were made after 9:00pm on 7/11
in and out of pockets, purses etc
IMO there is no way Nina's prints would still be found on the phone.

UNLESS she was indeed the last person to touch it.

Agree somewhat. Prints can be superimposed on top of other prints, not necessarily eradicated when a new person or people hold the phone. Forensics should be able to determine that.

I want to say BINGO on the last three posts.

Would Rebecca already know basically how to get to the Hospital from the airport?

It also seems like a pretty irrelevant thing to mention in an interview. Unless of course you were trying to get the point a across that there was a reason your finger prints were on the phone that supposedly contained the voice message that SDSO based their suicide ruling on.

Agree. By the same token, Nina neglects to mention her college age son whom Rebecca also picked up along with Nina at the airport. Nina only spoke about how Rebecca picked her up at the airport and that Rebecca was helping Nina with Nina's luggage and that Rebecca handed Nina Rebecca's cellphone. What happened to Nina's son?

Did Rebecca drop both Nina and her adult son at the hospital Monday night? Or did Rebecca only drop off Nina at the hospital, and then dropped off Nina's adult son at Dina's summer home? What ever became of Nina's son? Was he at Dina's summer home the whole day Tues, including the Tues night when Rebecca was murdered? Why wasn't he interviewed by police?

Nina did mention her son, although she gave the impression (repeatedly) that he was young and/or could not be left alone. That was the reason that LE had to come to Dina's to speak with her and get her DNA........Guy Jr. currently goes to college, has a part-time job, and has a driver's license.......One has to ask: why the deliberate misleading statement/comments about him? IMO, she was using this as an excuse to avoid a LDT.

I didn't know that 'we knew Jonah's voicemail was deleted..." Was that ever confirmed that:

1) Did Jonah sent a voicemail? How do we know this? Rebecca's phone records do not confirm that she received an incoming call from him. How can you prove he sent a voicemail? What do Jonah's phone records show? He said he sent a trigger voicemail but that could have been a lie to promote the suicide explanation.

2) Was anything deleted? Did forensics show that a deletion occurred? Her record showed that her voicemail was accessed at 12:50 AM. How does one know that when the voicemail was accessed a deletion occurred? I access a voicemail to listen to new or old messages. Sometimes I delete but sometimes I save them but I don't necessarily erase anything when I listen to my voicemail.

3) How do we know that it was Rebecca who accessed the voicemai? Someone else could have done that too, no?

Imo, that Nina gave the excuse that she could not leave an older teenager alone as a reason to avoid going to the police station was a major red flag. She may have lied or hid something. She definitely made an highly questionable excuse, imo.

So does she think the judge is going to take a magazine interview and old FB posts over the medical records?

I think the judge would look at the hospital medical records first and then compare how the family members reacted to the news they receieved by following their statements and actions.

What would that be called? Doing it with the victim is called victimology. It would probably be the part the victimology investigation that investigated the events leading up to and surrounding the victims death. So if Max's death were related to Rebecca's death via suicide or murder then the judge would look at the medical records to see exactly what the family knew about Max's condition before Rebecca's death, no?

I agree. She had an agenda for doing the interview and making the specific points that she emphasized.

There is also confusion about whether Howard was with them or not. There is a part of her interview where Nina stated that Rebecca had Howard with her in one sentence the in the next sentence she stated Rebecca went back to the airport to pick him up. The interviewer did not clarify the discrepancy.

We don't have Jonah's phone records so we don't know for certain whether he did send a voicemail. I think it is highly likely that he did because for one, there was no reason he would inject himself into Rebecca's suspicious death by stating outright he sent a voicemail if he didn't, and two, the voicemail should be easily verifiable by LE checking his phone records. There were LE documents which specifically asked for Jonah's phone records. I tend to believe if LE did not find records of the 12:50am Wed voicemail, they would not have stated it at the press conference that they did.

Assuming that Jonah did send the voicemail, then it was evidently deleted from Rebecca's cellphone since the voicemail is no longer there.

I didn't say Rebecca accessed the voicemail. I said I believe Jonah did leave the 12:50am voicemail, and since it's not on Rebecca's voicemail anymore, someone must have deleted it. I did not say who or why.

Do you know the audio time for when Nina mentioned Howard was with them? I do not recall this. TIA

I don't know that I believe LE was completely honest or forthcoming about this investigation. I believe most of Gore's statements were prefaced by "we
believe" and "Jonah said". By the same token why did Gore simply not say we have that Jonah Shacknai's phone record confirms he send a voicemail but we do not know the content and verify his source (Jonah's outgoing call log)?

And even if there was a voicemail which in my opinion has not been scienticifally verified apparently no one can ever prove what what said. For all anyone knows if it was left, and I'm not saying or assuming that happened, and he could have only said I'll be home in a half an hour. I love you. Jmho.

By this summer, it was coming to a crunch for Rebecca.

“We talked about it; that if the teenaged kids’ behavior doesn’t improve she was considering telling Jonah at the end of this summer that she…needed to have some time to herself.

“I don’t know if she ended up telling him or not.”

"For somebody that he was going to marry, it really surprised me that he didn’t even have one good thing to say about my sister. Though she said marriage was not being discussed at this point.”

I hadn't read this before. I'm not sure what to think?

I found an interesting video off topic but not off topic. It's tells how a scapegoat(Rebecca) is chosen based on their differences from their community.

A magician does a neat card trick to illustrate the process. Though the video is 12 minutes long it does illustrate the blaming the scapegoat psychology and how it enhances cohesiveness to restore equilibrium within the community.

There are religion references toward the end but i am showing the community psychology and not trying to proselytize, although I personally agree with the magician's conclusions.

I also wonder how this scenario would have played out if there had been no Rebecca but only Jonah or Dina at home with Max when he fell. Would there have been this level of blaming and finger pointing or would the community have rallied around the parents and proclaimed them as victims who lost their beloved child in a tragic accident?

This is really a cool illustration. Please watch. I hope no one gets offended because no offence is intended. this is just an interesting psychological study using a cool card trick.

Thanks. But I was referring to Nina not mentioning her adult son being physically present at the airport with her on Mon night when Rebecca chauffeured her from airport to the hospital, and then dropped her suitcases off at Dina's summer home. Why did she not say that Rebecca picked up both her and her son? Did he take a taxi to the hospital or Dina's summer home instead? Also, where was Rebecca's teen sis XZ then?

Thanks. Interesting sermon about scapegoating and communities. The parallel between Rebecca's case and this parable is fascinating. I'm still trying to figure out how he did the magic trick. lol

I think that Nina intentionally left some important details out because she was focused on telling that 1) she had touched Rebecca's phone, 2) she was at Spreckels the night of 7/12, 3) Max was not a dare devil, and 4) Rebecca didn't perform CPR.
