$600 a month on welfare? Wow? Who gets that?

If people feel welfare is a good deal, it is easy to get. Get rid of everything you own, Everything. Then sign up for welfare and start your five years of looking for work. But you have to get the good jobs such as night shifts where there is no childcare for your child nor transportation to get to your job.

Section 8 in California has a Choice Voucher that is magnificent. Lol.

I would probably have killed to get on that list. Lol.

Especially after the house market debacle where people were renting out beautiful homes to section 8 folks that only had to pay 35% of their income while section 8 paid the rest.

Good Lordy.

Plus after you stay in the resident for a year. You can then take your voucher and move anywhere in the state with your voucher.

But seriously. I definitely wouldn't mind having the California housing voucher if we didn't get lucky enough to purchase our humble digs.

So, when a woman reaches social security age if she's a single woman, or a divorced woman who took time off to stay home with the children, her check can be substantially less based on her time in the work force and her earnings. I think there's lots of elderly women needing an adjustment to their social security check to make up for being under paid all those years, and now they're struggling to make ends meet in old age on their meager checks.

I agree. The system does need to adjust funds for women receiving Social Security.

But we were fortunate enough to be in a position where the housing market debacle worked out fine for us when purchasing our home.

Plus. Ole Dex was able to find one of those government assisted down payment and rehab programs for first time home buyers. Lol.

But trust me. We walked on pins and needles for 6 months while trying to coordinate the government program with the broker while we were only at a 640 credit score at the time. Lol.

This process happened 7 years ago. And I'm still sick of how things could have played out if we didn't second guess the lazy broker for 6 months. Lol. Jmo.

Now personally revenging the death of a loved one may not give total closure as well.

But to those willing to personally handle things themselves. May definitely give them more closure than the 15 year grace period before the needle in arm scenario. Jmo.

So I guess criminals have no problem killing since it's most likely that they will just live peacefully in jail until they die of old age. Jmo.

I worked for my job as a teacher with people below the poverty level. There are so many rumors out there that are absurd.

MN, which is considered a great state for benefits paid $423 a month for a family of three. Apartments had limits of how much they could be rented for so that got you slum land. And up to a certain age, children had to share a bedroom, male and female.

People on welfare have a five year limit and then sanctions start.

They got 6 weeks of training which usually meant CNA. Then they would get the night shift. No childcare, no transportation for the job.

Groceries were bought once a month. Bus to the store, cab back. Fill in the rest at convenience stores. Fresh fruits and veg are not much of an option. Cab to the laundromat. Usually lived on the second floor of some dive apartment and had to climb up the exterior rickety stairs. That includes winter.

No dentist as most dentists cannot afford to provide care.at the welfare rate of reimbursement.

One of my favorites is the for profit universities that some attended. They were given huge loans that cannot be repaid. So no way to attend any school until those loans are repaid.

I would suggest that the next Pres makes those loans go away. Then I suggest mentoring programs be set up at colleges to help people on welfare overcome obstacles. Sick child? What can be done so person cn attend class? No transportation? What can be done? Study buddies. We have to provide a path out of poverty, Many do not have families to guide or provide them assistance

I would also make college free for everyone as long as a reasonable grade point was maintained.

I pray that I am never poor

Dex I'm anti capital punishment so my perspective might be wonky but I think it would be too much to put the decision on the family. That's a lot of pressure to put on someone who is grieving and angry. And what if there's disagreement in the family?

And then... What if the wrong person was convicted? Could someone live with that? Bad enough when the system kills innocent people.

Nothing to do with me, being a Brit and all, but I would make it a legal requirement that full DNA and isotope testing automatically be carried out on all UIDs in the US, and that all UIDs, if not kept in storage in laboratories against future developments, must be buried individually in properly marked and recorded graves so they could be found and exhumed easily.

No UID should ever be cremated, nor buried in an unmarked or communal gravel. Nor should UID human remains ever be disposed of other than in an individual, named burial. I remember browsing a year or so ago on DoeNetwork and reading that at times some counties and police departments sent UID remains to landfill. That is disgusting beyond belief. Many have alread been abused and discarded by their killers. They should never suffer the same fate at the hands of the authorities.

I would also institute a national programme, properly funded, for the exhumation and DNA and isotope testing of historic UIDs wherever possible.
