It's horrible people were stuck on the tarmac for this long. I would be furious and going nuts. I would try to behave, but eek! Once flying to DC from Mpls, the captain got on the PA and told us we were flying BACK to Mpls. We were halfway there already. They didn't tell us why except to say "mechanical difficulty." We all wondered - why turn around, better tools in Mpls? I will add that it was Dec. 30, 1999 so everyone was skittish (remember Y2K, etc.?) Then we got back to Mpls and they put us in a roped off area and we were not allowed to go into the terminal. We were left in that room (no food, water, etc.) for 2 hours. Then they put us on another plane and we sat on the tarmac for 2 hours. By now we'd been in limbo for over 4 hours. During that time they came through a couple of times looking for a certain passenger. The name was an Irish name. We were all completely frustrated and definitely felt we didn't knowthe real reason we were sitting there and they weren't about to tell us. We FINALLY got to DC at about 2 a.m. My flight was orginally scheduled to arrive at 4 p.m. My nerves were shot, I was exhausted and I was furious because no one would tell us anything.
I still don't know exactly what to make of it.

P.S. I specified that it was an Irish name because some on the plane were then speculating that the whole thing had to do w/ the IRA or some kind of terrorism. No offense those of Irish blood, which runs through my veins too!
