Where Terri parked at the school

  • #221
I think after reading the whole flier, that LE might have received an anonymous tip from someone who was parked in that south lot and wants to talk to them more...

moo

I'm not sure...because they are looking for people to call with their car info.

I think they may have gotten a tip or whatever about a car and now they are trying to ID the owner...it does seem like they are expecting this person to be a parent.

The use of the word 'witness' is curious though...are they looking to see if this person 'saw' anything, or are they following up on something someone else saw this person doing?????

If I did something wrong and the police wanted to know more information...I doubt they would ask me to call myself in when reportably they don't even have my plate #

I don't think if I would run and call the tip line if I was guilty. I do think they are looking for a potential witness, one that probally saw who was in the driver seat of that truck that morning.

OK I haven't read through this entire thread yet. I'm still trying to get over the 'fact' that Terri may have parked on the side of the road of the school even though she would have arrived at the school before 8:15 since she was seen by the PTA lady in front of Kyron's project at 8:15 when the facebook photo was taken. Surely, there were spots available around 8 am closer to the doors of the school. This makes me think that she intentionaly parked near the exit to get out easily and quickly. However, how easy could it have been to get out of the school parking lot or gravel driveway since Terri has claimed that there were about 300 people running around the school and it was chaotic when she was there and when she left. There aren't that many spots at the school and considering that the staff probably drive and park at school as well, there wouldn't be a lot of spots left for parents to visit their kids' science fair. If other parents parked near the entrance or paved shoulder on the road, then maybe Terri had a problem turning the truck around or backing out or something like that. Very weird stuff. JMO

300 people at the school: http://www.katu.com/news/local/100323934.html

More weird! The original Oregonian article which states that Gina Zimmerman saw Terri with Kyron at his science project at 8:15 am has now changed. It was posted on WS here in it's original state on June 5th: [ame="http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?p=5252892"]OR - Kyron Horman, 7 yo Second grader, Portland, 4 June 2010 - Part #1 - Page 9 - Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community[/ame]

In looking at this again, doesn't this seem to say that they have a witness but maybe they don't have a name?? Seems odd. Like maybe someone came forward, and they know the make and model and info for the car, but they haven't identified the witness. They want them to identify that info to know they are the true witness...

From the pdf.

THE FOURTH FOCUS SEEKS THE IDENTITY OF A WITNESS WHO PARKED THEIR VEHICLE ON JUNE 4. BEFORE 8:45 AM ON JUNE 4TH IN THE SKYLINE SCHOOL PARKING LOT ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE LOT (SEE PHOTO ON FOLLOWING PAGE)—IF YOU PARKED YOUR VEHICLE IN THAT DESCRIBED AREA PLEASE CONTACT LAW ENFORCEMENT WITH YOUR NAME, PHONE NUMBER, THE YEAR, MAKE & MODEL, COLOR, AND LICENSE PLATE NUMBER OF THE VEHICLE PARKED IN THE SCHOOL LOT.

Speculation: I wonder if this person parked behind the truck on the pathway too and was asked to move their vehicle so that Terri could get out? JMO

I think it might be as simple as she parked in the front initially with kyron took him inside told him to look around while she moved the truck a little closer to the back exit instructing him to go out the back after he was done . I always thought it played out that way, it would make her appear to be leaving him but she was only gone moving car to make their exit less visible

This is the most plausible explanation.

Yeah, the "identity of a witness" phrase does make it sound rather like that. Or that other people have reported someone who was in a position where they *had* to have seen something (maybe had to move their car to let TH's truck back out?) but they haven't heard from that person yet.

I have not read this whole thread so forgive me if this was covered. Is it easy to turn around on that access road? Just wondering if anyone else would typically park there because of the narrowness of the road and difficulty turning back around to exit. ??

Wasn't there a Mom who's kids go to Skyline posting her earlier in the week? I wish she'd chime in on the likliehood that people park on that access road during a crowded event.

The first report I saw said that truck had a woman with blond hair driving. Later versions of the man's story eliminated the driver.

I have been following this story since day one. It was never reported the female driving was "blond." That was a rumor started by playful supposition on this board. There was a sex offender living in the area who has long blond hair and someone wondered if a witness might have seen a man with long hair and assumed it was a woman. All we know is that Mr. Kelley identified the driver of the strange truck as "female." He may well have noticed her hair and LE has chosen to keep that to themselves for now.

Just from having looked at photos, I would think that one would have to travel past the chain blocking entrance to the field and either drive clear around the field or do a three point turn to be able to turn around. I think someone also suggested that maybe the truck could have driven off the access road, back onto Skyline without going back down the access road.

Just noticed something interesting.

In the photo posted by Chilie you can actually count the parking places at Skyline School. Looks like there are about 60 in the "south lot" and twenty in back. If people also parked against the gym on July 4, that would raise the number to 80.

I'm too lazy to pull up the Skyline handbook and count the number of teachers and staff - but with 300 students even if say only a third had a parent in attendance, the parking lot would have filled quickly. There must have been cars parked up and down Skyline for a good distance.

Terri would have known - from past events - how quickly the lot filled. Even if the lot wasn't full when she and Kyron arrived, there would have been nothing strange about parking on the street.

ETA: The photo isn't pulling up for me, but it is posted several times upthread. (Is that a word???)

I don't think there is parking along the gym wall--there are no parking signs along there. I believe the school buses pull up along there. I recall some lines drawn along there that said "No Parking."

Compared to most of the older Portland schools, that parking lot is large, believe it or not. Most schools around here were built during the era of stay at home moms, one-car households, and kids walking/biking to their neighborhood school. Most schools only needed parking enough for the staff.

I don't think so. It is a rather steep slope between the top of the access road and Skyline. I was there three weeks after Kyron disappeared and did not see any disturbance in the high grass beyond what could have been trampled by a couple people on foot. It is possible that most of the cars parked along there were leaving at that point since school was starting at that point.

I asked earlier in this thread (yesterday) if there was designated overflow parking on the day of the science fair. I was hoping that a Skyline parent or knowledgeable local might know about this. Even though our DD hasn't been in elementary school for more than 30 years, and we haven't lived in the same neighborhood as the school for almost 18 years, DH and I recalled very specifically last night how overflow parking was handled at school events.

Whenever there was a school function that would draw many parents and/or guests, specific instructions for parking were sent home with participating students or the information was in the school newsletter. There was only one parking lot directly in front of the school so that the building was clearly visible from the street. There were NO PARKING signs on either side of the driveways into/out of the parking lot, so no vehicles were ever parked on the street directly in front of the school. Parking was permitted north and south of the building on the same side of the street, directly across the street, and along one side of intersecting side streets.

I'm still wondering if the white pickup was parked all by itself along Skyline Drive which would surely have made it conspicuous. I would also like to know if parking along Skyline Drive had been recommended in the event of overflow.

I really think TH would have had quit the time maneuvering with this truck.

Trucks Ford F250 248.4 Inches Long and 78.9 wide.

Ford Mustang 188.1 Length width 73.9

Differences of 60.03 inches (5 feet) in length.

She may have had a hard time backing it up, and turning around.

No LE did not say specifically where she parked, but the 2 spots out front are pretty much the same.

I don't get anything from the presser that they think the truck was moved. Only that they are not sure EXACTLY where out front she parked, and that it is really not that important whether she was on the street or the access road....they are virtually the same place. What they are MORE interested in is the person(s) 'associated' with the truck as it was parked IN FRONT of the school.

In terms of the south parking lot, they are not mentioning the truck there, they are only looking for a 'witness' that they seem to believe was there that morning. They told us nothing about this witness, so it could be anything:

-someone could have reported something suspicious, and now they are following up on it.

-more than one person could have told them something, so they are trying to track this 'person' down.

-or they may know a lot about this vehicle and they just don't know enough to ID the driver/owner.

The mention of the south parking lot was not about the horman truck. But to answer your question, you are right, it does appear that LE does not know EXACTLY where Terri parked, but 'roughly' where she parked (in front of the school).

Wait, what if they are looking for a "witness" to corroborate Terri's alibi?
What if during the initial interviews with Terri, they asked her if anyone could verify that (for instance) she left the school at 845 without Kyron - and she (for instance) gave them the model and color of a car whose driver she saw as she left the school? In this scenario, LE might not believe her, but in the interest of following all leads and sewing up all potential alibis, what if they are looking for someone she said she saw that morning?

I mean it would make sense that they would ask her if she saw anyone as she left the school, right? Someone who could verify that she left alone, and left when she said she did. And IF Terri was already lying about her whereabouts, and lying about some "mysterious stranger" in the school with Kyron, maybe it's not that much of a stretch that she could have invented some person who saw her walking alone to her car (through the South lot) at 845.

Yes? No?

I can turn my car just before the chain link fence, but I would not be able to turn a F250 there. All, except the beginning of the dirt road is high above Skyline.

Assuming she got there at 8:15, there were still plenty of spots in the main parking. Why would somebody park on that dirt road, or next to the white line on Skyline? .. maybe .. you can reach the car from the school without being seen and the car can leave the parking spot without passing other cars in the parking lot.

Thanks for the perspective!

Wouldn't every car that drove into the lot see the white truck parked parallel to the road like that?

Cars coming from Cornelius Pass or Brooks Rd would see see it. But remember school starts at 8:45 and there is a lot of traffic from school buses and parents coming and going.

Just a reminder. She could of taken the mustang if she was more comfortable with it and parks better with it. She didn't need it to pick up the Science Project anyways. The project would have fit inside of the mustang back seat or some say the trunk is plenty large enough if she wanted to take a more Parkable vechicle.

Parkable Vechicle. Yes.. I believe I just made up a new word....:blushing:

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but these may be actual pictures, of that morning. The ground is wet. Definitely not wet now.
