"White Privilege Conference" In Colorado?

I think it is very dangerous to assume that these problems are exclusive to blacks. I think that certain media highlights these problems within the black communities more so than they do with other races. In NYC, there are serious problems with chinese and Russian gangs.

Unfortunately, I would say that all of our races have these issues in common whether people would like to admit it or not.

I don't assume the problems are exclusive to blacks. I'm saying the blacks, specifically, that are giving all their energy to asking for apologies and restitution and recognition for stuff that happened 140 years ago should turn their attention to the blacks that are having the problems. IF they are so worried about the treatment of their race - they really ought to treat THEMSELVES better and clean up the mess.

I was talking about the blacks in an uproar about black slavery in the past ought to be chanelling their energies toward their own race. I don't think I'd get far if my thought was to say "All blacks should stop worrying about black slavery 140 years ago and start worrying about chinese and russian gangs..."

It's okay, though, I'm misunderstood most of the time and have learned to live with it. :-)

VB... greast post too!!

I posted on back about getting pulled over once late at night and getting 3rd degree questioning, even being asked who's car I was driving, why I was where I was, etc. Now, admittedly I had run a red light, it was raining and I was going to fast to stop without hydoplaning....but I digress... :blushing: But yes, he had the right to pull me over but not to ask the things he was. I too could pull the race thing, "if" I was black. Of course, I could be a big b*tch and say he was against females (DWF)....

And your post made me think of something else.... I am 1/38th (or something just as silly) Indian. Does that mean I get to start an uproar because my land was taken from me?! Hmmm....let me think about this....

I got lost once trying to take a shortcut to visit my boyfriend in the hospital. I pulled up to a stopsign and a BUNCH of black guys circled my trans am and started beating on my car windows. I rolled up my driver's window onto someone's arm and when I punched the gas I ended up in a ditch! I was so scared because the guy's arm was still in my car, so his face was right near mine screaming at me and everyone was angry. He had something in his hand, a bag - so I realized I was in danger because not only were they all over my car, but probably on drugs, too - thus unpredictable. I threw my car in reverse and thanked $diety for rear wheel drive! I backed over one guy's leg or something and then went forward through the stopsign and rolled the window down so the guy didn't break my window with his arm. I was terrified.

A few blocks later, I'm pulled over - white teenaged girl in a crack neighborhood. I'm still crying, hysterical, and the cop assumes it was a drug deal gone bad and asked to search my car. *rolls eyes*

He never did believe me what happened, just told me to stay out of the neighborhood, then two weeks later, I get a notice in the mail sent to the registered owner of the tag on my car (me) asking if I knew a teenaged driver had the car in a known crack neighborhood.

What I was trying to say before is: What I meant by letting it go is that when you were posting to ocean eyed girl you sounded very aggressive, and I just thought (my opinion only) that your were attacking her unnecessarily, she was only stating her opinion, and to explain what I meant when I said 'it is close to my heart" I meant the aboriginals and my family, especially my family, because some of the questions you asked ocean eyed girl were: "What if it was you ancestors that were being treated like the aboriginals?" well mine were treated badly and it just made me vent my feelings. I dont know what else to say Narla, if we could personally do more to help the aboriginals it would have been done. But what would you like to see done, saying sorry isnt going to change what happened in the past so all I am saying is just let the aboriginal subject go and focus on what we have and not what could have been.

Shaz, for starters, it wasn't Oceaneyed Girl- it was GreenEyedGirl and I'm not quite sure how you think what I said was being aggressive, she told me to 'grow up already' just because I happen to think the Aboriginals have had a rough trot-

<<First of all, it wasn't "we, who robbed them of their dignity", it was our ancestors. And, it wasn't "we who murdered them in cold blood", it was their ancestors that were murdered.>>

Then she said this, so I replied by asking her how she would feel if it were her ancestors that were robbed of their dignity and murdered- simple really Shaz-

I would like to see all people treated equally, it's that simple- the Aboriginals are not treated as equals- they live like animals in some parts of our country-

Shaz, again, this is a discussion board, where we discuss things- I am currently trying to discuss the poor treatment of Aboriginals in our country- if you don't want to discuss it anymore, that is fine, but don't expect me to stop just because you want to-

GreenEyed Girl, I am still waiting on a reply from you, I asked for an explanation of your post to me- it didnt make sense and I am interested to know what you meant by some of your comments.

Sorry GreenEyedGirl, for calling you by the right name. Narla it was our acestors that robbed the aboriginals of their dignity and murdered them and you asked GreenEyedGirl what she would do if it were her ancestors, well I then jumped in and told you the atrocities that happened to my ancestors as a comparison to what happened to the aboriginals, which hurt me deeply and so do your comments in reference me taking sides or for not sticking up for you because someone told you to grow up. This is all I am saying about this topic, but if you can give criticism you must be able to take a little without getting your hackles up. Narla everything I have said is my opinion and some factual events that happened to my family and ancestors. I didnt say Let it go while you were in the middle of a post, what I meant by that is, isnt it easier to not get so overheated about something we cannot change, I didnt mean to stop talking about it, you have as much right as anyone to say what you think and so do I, and now I feel you are turning you aggression to me because I dont agree with you. Im sorry you feel that way Narla.

Could we stop talking about black people for a minute and discuss Australians?

I mean don't you hate how they come in and HIJACK our threads? I guess it shouldn't surprise anyone, seeing as how their ancestors were all hijackers and thieves.

In fact, I bet one of narlacat's great-great-great-grandfathers stole spoons or something (people were always stealing tableware back then) right off the table of my poor-but-honest great-great-great-grandfather. Probably left Grandpa so poor he HAD to come to the States to kill Indians and enslave black people.

When do I get my reparations?

Narlacat, I WANT MY THREAD BACK! AND MY DAMN SPOONS!

Yes, if you are Oglala Sioux and understood Pine Ridge Reservation is really a third world country within the United States. believe me. i've seen it up close and personal.

Most of the land comprising the reservation lies within Shannon County and Jackson County, two of the poorest counties in the U.S.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pine_Ridge_Indian_Reservation

Life in the Pine Ridge Reservation is very poor, probably easily comparable to the least developed countries of the Third World. Unemployment on the Reservation hovers around 85% and 97% live below the Federal poverty level.[citation needed] Average annual family income is $3,800 as of 1999[1]. Adolescent suicide is 4 times the National average. Many of the families have no electricity, telephone, running water, or sewer. Many families use wood stoves to heat their homes. The population on Pine Ridge has among the shortest life expectancies of any group in the Western Hemisphere: approximately 47 years for males and in the low 50s for females. The infant mortality rate is five times the United States national average. (we're talking babies. babies.) :(

pardon me, but i am shocked and was devastated when i visited Pine Ridge in the land of opportunity, last year. :tears: i found it hard to believe i was in the united states of america because for the previous 30 years i thought i honestly had visited the USA. i didn't know. :(

You did know I was kidding, yes? If not, I am deeply, truly sorry. :blushing:

(This thread has been all over the place. Racial history in your country and mine aren't exactly the same, of course, but there are enough similarities that your discussion seems entirely relevant here.)

I was just kidding REALLY! I was just trying to lighten the mood.

Seriously though, I think Narla made a good point.
It is very important to me to speak up for when you see injustice.
The only way to change things is to speak up about it.
Whatever happened to your family, I really am sorry. I can also
share stories. We all can, but that shouldn't stop us from speeaking up
when we see injustice happening to others.
In fact, it is more of a reason to speak up IMO.

Narlacat, I want my Thread back and my damn spoons.......quote
Nova.........I love the Aussies.........Whew.........Everyone........Break time, Coffee up.......whos going.......
I think the entire point here as we are rolling along is that history has some really bad footprints.........Here ,there ,and everywhere!
The Indian stories bother me .........What the Jewish went through is a horrific, formidable timeperiod. The saddness, and horror to watch something like that. My ancestors came from England.......doesn't mean I am going to have a brawl with tea bags and throw them in the sea, because my taxes are too high........( coffee please, now)
When people have said "White men can't dance" .......gosh, we giggle.
Ah...hummmm....is that true or not???? ( pass the cream, please)....
But, it certainly seems that the black in our society take things way to
seriously.....they should just throw back their heads and laugh at the silly
remarks. History was cruel to them.......but now they have great reasons to hold heads up and succeed. No little pun, or off beat word should cause such a fuss ( Al Sharpton, can you hear me) I am thinking of a word..........hummmm........Troublemaker.
Did anyone wonder how Oprah can have a "Black......college fund" and not sound reverse racist ( I love you Oprah, just sayin').......What would Al say if we had the "White Only, college fund"...... Oh Lordy......
We have a way to go to make things right........but, remember the history and just fly from it. Its over.......
I admire how the Jewish can reseize the day, overcome and rebound.
Reseize the Day........Bless you everyone!!!
Narla..........do you have Novas spoons.......Actually she wants thread....Nova what are you sewing???? Might I ask:)

Probably was just a loaf of bread. (Robert Hughes' Fatal Shore is one of my favorite books.)

It really is shocking what could get one transported back then. Tomorrow let's all get together and hate the Brits!

I do, too. I mean my favorite movie of all time is Muriel's Wedding, for pity's sake! I assumed everyone here knew that before I started joking around.

Trouble. As always, whether I mean to or not. ;)
