Like I said a good defense only has to raise the possibility that she didn't do it. We already have that here unless we find out more information on this guy. Jose could say he was an old boyfriend getting back at Casey, etc.

It's just not reasonable for me to think if in fact this guy called in 3 times in a row to report that Caylee might be there to stumble across her skull months later when he went to the same area to relieve himself. Now if he isn't the same guy that called in 3 times in a row, who the heck is the other meter reader who called in? What's with these meter readers? Does he know this guy? Are they connected? Are either of them connected to Casey to Caylee. If I were an investigator I ceratinly would have a lot of questions for both gentlemen.

Oh they will try to have a Field Day w this, no doubt, but if LE does their homework, and prosecution is thorough, a jury should see through desperate defence games. JMO

It apears to me that this man wanted the body to be found, especially if he in fact ends up being the same meter man that called in 3 times in a row. I have read and heard about cases just like this where the perpetrator leads authorities back to the crime scene.

A whole country has wanted Cayley's body found.
TV programs and books do have the perpetrator being the helpful witness however, this isn't tv or a book that has to be reolved in an hour or several hours. I would guess that 99% of criminals don't want to get caught but it does play well in fiction.

Jennyb: I hate to say it but we have doubt now. You have 3 calls into this same spot by one person (either him or another meter reader, what are the odds 2 meter readers called in?) You have investigators who did not search the crime scene throughly and I say reasonable doubt shouts our way.

Nedthan, with all my heart I have no doubt. This is not the first time LE has disregarded tips. It happens more frequently than we would like to admit.

Last night someone here was wondering why the meter reader needed an attorney and thought that made him look guilty of something. Now we see why he needs counsel... he's practically being accused of Caylee's murder.

I truly think these accusations are an abomination!

I dont think this will raise reasonible doubt she didnt do it. If anything all it might show is that LE didnt follow up as good as they should of. IMO the defense its gonna use this as LE didnt see anything there at that time so the body was put there later. They will use the meter reader just to point out that the body wasnt put on that scene by there client. It all depends what evidense links KC to crime.JMO But thats just me:)

Agree, that's just one angle. If this man however did call 3 times in a row and then accidently stumbled upon the body by returning to a scene that police said they cleared, would certainly raise issues with me.

Re the book.
IF it's Caylee's book how come it's almost intact after all this time?

It's a heavy cardboard toddler book. The pages are thick and plasticoated for drool, crackers, bottles, etc. I worked 10 years for a New York publisher and had a ton of those books in my house. When my kids would get food and stuff on them, I could wipe them with a sponge. However, the binding/spine on the books are not as strong as the pages. I think the book came apart from water and we are seeing just a page.

Really, this is not a case-killer, but it's not good. LE looks incompetent and they're going to have to spend a lot of time and effort vetting this meter reader guy, and they better, 'cuz he seems really suspicious.

Plus it was probably double bagged for most of the time, until things dried up (two weeks ago?) and the bag was torn.

I say with good reason if it turns out he was the one that called 3 times and has since returned to the scene. But that's just my mind turning. Leave No stone unturned and follow the leads. This find comes only days after Tim made a very public statement that the body will never be found. Hmmmm.... 2 weeks later a meter man (off duty) off all things stumbles into the very woods where he may have seen a bag months earlier and states a piss.... Oh lookie there a trash bag, I wonder if it has anything inside. Now if it turns out this isn't the same guy (hard to tell with all the incompetent news reporting) I want to know why there are 2 METER MEN involved in this find? One who calls 3 times in a row and another who stumbles upon the skull.

I think it's sad how some of the media is covering this story and I can understand why some people don't want to get involved in things like this. Already they are bringing up the possibility this guy is somehow involved without even waiting for the facts to come out. Some are even trashing LE. It's my understanding that TES was in this area searching at one time so if this bag was out in plain site why didn't they see it. It makes me sad when things like this happen and hopefully we will get some facts this afternoon that will make sense. Myself I would rather wait until all the facts come out before I start speculating on the situation.

I saw the photo of the book. Did you see the old photo laying close to it? It looks to be of a man maybe in some type of uniform. Military perhaps?

imoo

You have got some good eyes. Almost looks like an old WWII type pic?

None of us would have disregarded such a tip but how many large organizations have lazy or not-so-bright employees? I don't read anything into this lame officer's actions except it was just that... lame. We have to remember the mountains of tips LE was getting from all over the area and it takes a special kind of cop to treat each one like it is THE ONE. It's human nature, and after awhile wild goose chases take their toll.

I'm not happy about all of this, obviously, but it's not a case breaker IMO.

Exactly, especially if the only reason you didn't check it out was because of big snake. We pay police to check these types of tips out...especially just seconds from the home of a missing child in a huge media circus where the police have charged her mother and are still looking for either a baby or a body. Maybe the deputy should have donned some protective clothing, shot the snake, kept his firearm ready for more and gone down there are looked. If he couldn't, he should have called someone who could.

I don't even want to accuse the officer of anything negligent yet because we don't know what really happened anyway.

Acually it could work for the State as well. If it does turn out that the officer did not check it throughly yes it does look bad for LE. But just that there officer didnt do there job. But it also can help the state if in fact its true the officer didnt do a good search. Because it also show that the body could of been there all the time. It depends how you look at it and who has a better angel to present to the jury. I personally think all the evidence in whole will be the deciding factor for the jury. And KC will be spending a very long time in the pokey:) Just me though:)

That is technically correct. Our meter reader made the calls in August. He had his boss make the call in December. He probably thought no one would pay attention if he called. Since no one did three times before.

Another case of the media stating something in a way that comes of wrong?

FWIW, I am holding out pending a pressc, however, what bothers me is that you have a statement from a witness (Kio) who literally picks the interview place at the school, specifically tells Det. Wells she picked the place because she was aware KC borrowed a shovel from the neighbor so this is her "best guess" as to Caylee's location..

AND

That's where she is ultimately found, and the circumstances surrounding the find with meter guy.

  • #117
My understanding was that the meter reader was assigned to a different area sometime after the calls were made in August, and was just recently put back in the area. Somewhere I also read that due to the restraints of his job that his job could be in jeopardy if his boss were to find out he was searching in woods or whatever, hence the need for the whizzing story.
Either way, unless they find fingerprints of this meter reader inside that bag, I don't think its a big deal. The defense can't argue too much because if she were that close to the road, Casey's own parents failed to find her when they decided that knocking on every door was no longer important..If so, they possibly would have met the kid who told the reporters where they hung out, and as a parent, that may just be the place where George and Cindy would have looked themselves.

So this IS the same guy? If so why was he reassigned? Too engrossed in the case? If he was assigned to this area, does this area include the Anthony home? Does this man have a record? Had he seen Caylee before? Regarding the story about whizzing another report says he was OFF duty, therefore no need to make that up to cover in case his boss found out.

As obsessed as I'VE been w this case (from about as far as you can get w/in the US), it's COMPLETELY believable and I have no problems understanding this meter reader calling repeatedly or returning to a suspicious scene. If he was assured someone had "cleared" the area, after initial sitings which were pre-Faye, this can easily account for why it was only recently--once waters receded--that he thought once more to check and see whether any traces of reported bag he had seen were still present or had actually been investigated. I assure you I would have been at LEAST that persistent, had I lived or worked anywhere near the Orlando area--and he was working right in their neighborhood and obviously felt his lead was at least worth being taken seriously and followed through on. I mean, how many psychics, and armchair detectives (including WS'rs) have relentlessly pestered LE w far less tangible and credible "tips?" JMO

One who calls 3 times in a row and another who stumbles upon the skull.

Actually, it sounds like it's one meter reader called three time, then had his boss call the fourth time.

AGREE. This is going to hurt the prosecutors case NMW
