Why Christmas?

Good point Jayelles! We're interested in things that seem more unlikely.

Our minds can't fathom these things when they hit closer to our own lives

as opposed to prostitutes, drug dealers, or gang murders.

Another example - Dylan and Shasta Groene went missing just a little bit before Natalee Holloway, and I watched in disgust as the media dropped the story of searching for the two young children of poor drug users to focus on the search for a pretty girl from a richer family.

Indeed - and I am in no way advocating the murders of prostitutes - which I believe to be every bit as tragic. Not drug dealers though. I think they are the lowest of low-lifes and should be exterminated.

Some drug dealers are out there for the same reason as prostitutes - sheer economic desperation. Would you rather have them sell their bodies than sell drugs?

Yes I would. You cannot BEGIN to compare drug dealers with prostitutes! Drug dealers cause and then feed off human misery. They ensnare vulnerable people and then feed off their resulting desperation. Dealers create addicts and these addicts increasingly resort to a multitude of desperate measures in order to pay for their next fix - the profit of which will line the pockets of the dealers and allow them to buy their nice homes and fast cars.

Who ever heard of someone robbing an old woman to raise the money to pay a prostitute?

Drug dealers cause many young addicts to turn to prostitution - so yes, I would rather the dealers just became prostitutes in the first place and cut out the misery in the middle. Wouldn't you?

Also - maybe the law is different here in the UK, but it is illegal to sell drugs. Prostitution is not a criminal offence here.

Edited to say:- I would exterminate all drug dealers. Many people suffer economic hardship and do not resort to dealing in human misery in order to make ends meet. Besides, the drug dealers I know aren't dealing to make ends meet. They are dealing to pay for luxury lifestyles and interestingly - they don't take the drugs that they ruin the lives of others with. Parasites.

Prostitution is illegal here in most states. Some have areas with gambling etc, where escorting is allowed. I think it's ridiculous to make prostitution illegal. If two grown adults want to buy and sell sex, that should be their choice. I see no reason for the government to get involved.

And you have a good point about stealing from people to pay for sex vs. buy drugs. I do believe some dealers are there because they know no other life and have no other means of support. That doesn't make it right or even okay, though.
