Many now wonder if Adam Baker was involved in his daughter’s murder.

Baker’s boss doesn’t think so.

But Hickory Police Chief Tom Adkins said he hasn’t ruled out any suspects.

Fred Causby is the foreman for Real Tree Services and operates the company from his home on Hartland Road north of Morganton. He hired Baker as a laborer about six months ago.

“He started in March or April,” Causby said. “He’s just a hard working individual.”

“I thought it was a waste of time when they came out to search,” he said in the afternoon before authorities returned Tuesday night. “I have a difficult time believing this. I like to think I’m a pretty good judge of people, and I’d like to think I’m still not wrong.”

He described Baker as a quiet man, a self-directed worker who can be funny at times and tells stories about working on a sod farm and a sugar mill in his native Australia.

Causby met Elisa Baker a couple of times when she’d come to pick her husband up after work and those brief encounters left him feeling unsettled.

“He (Baker) may not have had good judgment,” Causby said referring to the woman Baker met on the Internet and moved to America to wed. “I think the elevator doesn’t go all the way to the top. She seemed very controlling.”

As commented on earlier, we did have a poster claiming to be a childhood family friend of AB and the Bakers. To my knowledge this person did not take steps to be vetted or was not able to be vetted.

I too am very surprised that no old buddies, no former coworkers, etc from Australia have come out to paint a different picture of AB than the one many here are seeing.
Three main possible reasons:

1) he was a loner and did not have many friends.

2) None of his past friends want to jump into this crazy story/arena to comment

3) nobody has anything good to say.

Can I add another:

4) no one of AB's friends/colleagues in Australia has ever heard of WS and wouldn't ever think of posting about him to a crime discussion board?

If we could send an "informant" into the local pub I'm sure we'd get a lot more info. Anyone want to go and sit in the Giru pub?

But also, I can imagine in such a small country town that a) no news service has really been there and asked around, and b) that the locals might not be too talkative.

To be honest, there hasn't been all that much coverage of Zahra's case down here in Australia. Sadly. I've learnt 99% of the info I have from WS!!

I repeat - this is not a thread about ED's pros and cons.

And I also repeat Daisy's warning from the other day - WS is a victim-friendly forum, and we do not tolerate the slagging of non-suspects (or even suspects beyond a certain level, for that matter). If people want to vent about the weaknesses of the people in this story, do it at a forum without rules.

I don't want to see people pushing this policy or posters will be getting a cool down break.

Sorry if I crossed bounds here. I'm no sure why the warning unless I missed a post by someone else. My post was about Emily and Adam's communication or lack thereof. I am trying to find out if they moved often in Oz since Emily seems to have used every single resource at her disposal to find Zahra. That tells me that they were seemingly hiding her and moving about quite often over there.
This would also explain why Adam doesn't seem to have many friends coming to the media to speak about his past. (topic of thread)
Since there are no suspects or POI mentioned...it's hard to draw a fine line between who is a victim and who is fair game. (AB,KB,TB,EB,ED,AY,AK,BB..) I totally agree ED is innocent and a victim. Read me previous posts. I have seen the bashing on other sites but I have yet to see a single post here that compares to any of those at all. We are sleuthing Adam and Zahra's life in Oz. Unfortunately in this case...seems like no one tells the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. No harm or bashing meant in any of my posts, for the record.

Now with continuing with the topic..
The MSM article above a few posts metioned KB raised Zahra from a toddler. Although Adam didn't move close to his mother until 2004 when Zahra was 5 (?). I do not consider a 4-5 year old a toddler so do you all think that Zahra was with Karen or Adam who were hundreds of miles apart?
I'm trying to wrap my head around who exactly raised Zahra most of the time.

Answers the question also why AB/EB aren't charged with murder yet.

I know we can't see his criminal record(if any),but why hasn't anyone who knew him as a boy/young man came forward??
Are they afraid? Did he have any friends?

I suspect that a lot of people know things about AB, but very few of the things they know are all that relevant to whether he'd kill his child and chop her body up. They would know what football team he supports, what type of beer he drinks and whether he arrives early or late to work.

just to let you know......this is HUGE news where I live in Townsville.....they had a vigil for her in Giru on her birthday....she is mentioned every day here and if there are any updates it is breaking news...



hi guys I posted this onto one of the threads above........but this one is more appropriate...

I went to school with Kim Wright and a friend from Giru has told me that she was quite close to the family....

I have a couple of people from Giru as my facebook friends (I grew up there until I was 13 and my best friend lives there still) but I dont want to seem nosy...

My mother ran into one of her old friends from giru today in a shopping centre here (townsville) and they had a chat about it.......

For a start they said that KB did move to Giru with Zahra and her husband, so I think she may have been looking after her for a while in the early piece....if what ED says is true then she was still on the scene until she was about two......anyhow AB followed them up to Giru as his father could get him a job in the sugar mill........

apparently the family were very shocked when EB showed up from America and the exact words from this lady from giru was "she was a bad biatch"....

Now Giru is a very very very close knit little community, they are all related and if they leave the town, they move to Townsville (about 40 kilometres away) so gossip is rampant.....

the whole community was even more shocked when they married.......it was not expected....and everyone thought that they were settling in Giru....

so EB was not a popular figure as when he said they were moving to America with Zahra it caused a big rift in the family and everyone blamed EB....

remember this is a community that really took Zahra under their wings and looked after her and fundraised etc etc....

she was apparently very loud and bossy and "wore the pants" so to speak....

this lady works at the school and they said EB would come down and dictate re Zahras education etc......

in fact that is why they think EB pressured AB to leave and go to America as she was unpopular and the subject of much gossip.......giru also has alot of wealthy italian cane farmers who even in a small town dress in designer gear etc.........I am sure they would have looked at her with distate which also would not have gone down well......

now re AB....this lady also said that alot of people thought he was a bit weird as well......apparently he was very quiet and kept to himself .....I think he may have ruffled a few feathers as they did a lot of fundraising......now in giru fundraising would be things like trivia nights at the local hall where EVERYONE would go, or a ball where EVERYONE would go.....etc you get my drift.......just to go off topic, my brother sister and I all say what a wonderful childhood we had and it is because we lived in Giru.......it was this community spirit that made it wonderful.....but AB did not like to get involved with it or stand back from it.......now this to me shows that he is probably very quiet, shy and a bit anti social.......but it did ruffle a few feathers as well....

there you go the giru gossip......Kim Wright is a friend of my best friends on facebook, and we do know each other, so I am thinking of becoming friends with her or sending her an email to find out more stuff.........but I really dont want to appear to cross the line....

re above post about them moving around alot.........I dont think they moved around alot at all......

there seems to be alot of confusion as to who bought zahra up in the early years.....ED has said she was on the scene until she was about 2.....I did read somewhere that she gave zahra to AB when she had postnatal so I think they may have lived in the same town but not together from about the ages of 1 to 2.......then he took off with her.....this is where it gets confusing.....

I have been told that KB bought her up for a little while, I think you will find that maybe AB had gone off working on farms and his mum looked after her, though he had been based in Newcastle with Zahra prior....

KB took her to giru as her husband got a job at the sugar mill........once there they also managed to get their two sons jobs there as well (they are always looking for sugar workers in the season, so this is very much likely) and that is when AB moved to giru and lived with KB and zahra.....

This community seems like a lot of small communities in that they don't wear their feelings and thoughts out there for the world to see but they are deeply affected nonetheless.

population is about 375-very small.

I would think some of them would have had kids in school with Zahra. I know my kids went to school with all levels of wealth and everyone talked at some point is what I am thinking. You would think that everyone would know about the brave little girl with cancer. Doubt though like you say they would know AB/EB unless AB worked for one of them. It doesn't sound like EB hid who she was or that she tried to "charm" her way into favor with anyone. AB can't claim he didn't know what kind of person she was before he came here. Maybe he is a closet rebel and liked watching her tell everyone a thing or two. He came from another town and maybe didn't like the closeness of the small town. jmo
