Why is Adam Baker not in jail?

Can someone tell me what kind of population there is in Giru please. Just trying to get a mind visual TIA

If the main business in town is sugarcane, then the population might vary drastically through the year. How much and over what timeframes I don't know... other than that one of Australia's classic plays Summer of The Seventeenth Doll involves cane cutters who come to Melbourne for five months of the year, and spend the other seven cutting cane up north.

Why is Adam Baker not in jail? (thread title)

I would think Adam Baker is not in jail simply because LE doesn't want him to be as yet. I honestly feel the time is coming when he will be in jail, though, and I am thinking it will be fairly soon. AB and EB may not be the only ones in jail in relation to Zahra's murder in the long run, IMO.

Thanks to bellyup, here is the actual transcript of that interview, not the reporter's skewed version of it...

What did you think of everything that they did tonight?
"I thought it was really ...very nice. Very appropriate."
Now, you wanted to be there?
"Yeah.... I would have liked to have gone but I didn't want everybody to take their focus off of Zahra. Which, everyone needs to get some kind of closure."
Have you experienced where people have yelled at you and
"Yeah"
Said things...What have you heard? What have people said?
"That I'm a child abuser ... murderer."
People have called you a murderer?
"Yeah"
What do you say to them?
"Everybody has their own opinion. There is no way in the world I would hurt my daughter."
So people need to know you didn't do this ?
"No (chokes up) There is no way I could do that to my baby."
You didn't dismember her?
"No...... NO."
(shows video of vigil)
What did it mean to you? The fact that they did this?
"It meant the world to me. Especially Tom speaking. I've had a lot of time with Tom and he's very down to earth, speaks from the heart. He pretty much summed up Zahra."
Where do you think it goes from here? I mean, there's alot ... what do you guys ..do you want to at some point go back to Australia? or do yo uwant to make your life here? Somewhere in the United States?
"Umm I think I'm gonna go back to Australia. I have a family here but most of my family and Zahra's family is in Australia."
Do you want to take Zahra back with you?
"Yeah."
Do you think that's where she deserves to be or what to you think?
"I think that's where she would want to be. She has a lot of friends and family in Australia. They need her to be home."
Your over all thoughts? It's been a difficult day... but for the people that were out there today that were there to remember Zahra, what would you say to them ?
"I'd like to thank everybody for coming to the vigil. Thank the organizers, hickory police and all the other law enforcement agencies and the community for everything they have done for Zahra."
This has been a tough tough thing. You haven't really been able to say what you want to say, have you?
"No.It's been very hard to try and grieve for my daughter with everything that is going on. It's been very hard doing stuff without being looking at you. Yelling things."
Saying things to you?
"Yeah."
Calling you murderer?
"Yeah."
But you've got a positive outlook. Things are going to work you, do you believe?
"I just hope that the police get all the evidence they need to get the right result and justice for Zahra."
What is the right result?
"That whoever they find guilty of this ..."
Do you think Elisa was involved ?
(Looks to lawyer) "I haven't been given a whole lot of details of what's been going on"
Interviewer over speaking (Okay.... alright ...)
Overall thoughts ? We had the vigil tonight ... but this doesn't end .. I mean your still ... this doesn't end the grieving process...
"No. "
Your still hurting. Will the hurt ever go away do you think ?
"No .. there's uh... (phone ringing).... "
Will the hurt ever go away?
"No. There's no possible way to ever fill the hole left by my daughter. (choked up)"

Interviewer speaks with Karen Baker.

I don't think AB ever said he wanted to "get back to normal". Just goes to show how a reporter can slant anything you may say.

yep the population does go up and down as they have a season......at harvest people come in to drive the trucks etc and the mill is at full capacity during crushing season.........then quiet while the cane is growing.....however that is when they maintain the mill and the cane trains and tracks etc.......

the township itself is full of working class as most the husbands are tradies.....there is a cafe, a hairdresser a little grocery shop and a post office......a town hall and 1 pub (the social hub)......there is one school......only primary for the ages of 5 to 12 (used to be 2) and for high school the kids travel by bus to ayr or townsville.....

there is also a bowls club which is a social hub..........around the town there are lots of sugar cane farms and these are mostly owned by people of italian descent......they migrated mostly in the 50s and now it is there australian born kids running the farms......they tend to have a lot of money and you see mercedes driving down the main street of giru.......they are very lovely people........

One thing I do have to say about giru is that it has had alot of tragedy over the years and everyone talks about it, it seems every family has been affected by some sort of tragic accident....quite a few kids ran over by havesters and tractors, harvesters hitting power lines, a couple ran over by cane trains, falling of the mill etc......

but they really band together........yes alot of peoples kids went to school with zahra and beleive me this has devastated the township, but they have seen alot......as my best friend said "it could only happen to someone from Giru"........

Just to let you know this story really rocked the whole area which covers quite alot of towns.....Townsville is the main city (180000..that is where I am)......the kids from all of these areas move to Townsville when they finish school.........the majority of the little towns around here and the whole way up to Cairns are cane growing towns and most the farmers are of italian descent, so they all know each other and alot are related.........

Like I said before there is no way this story will be forgotten in this area and alot of people are outraged........Zahra was also treated in the Townsville hospital and stayed there for quite some time so alot of people know of her.......she was also taken in by the army community and they did fundraising for her........Townsville has the largest army base in Australia.........

so needless to say this story has touched alot of hearts...

AB first says this: "It meant the world to me. Especially Tom speaking. I've had a lot of time with Tom..."

AB then goes on to say this: "I haven't been given a whole lot of details of what's been going on."

So uh...what exactly are AB and his "buddy" Tom talking about during all this time they spend together? The weather?

imma give AB that one. whether they discussed the weather or current foreign policy (sorry, had to chuckle), he did spend alot of time with Tom in those initial days so him stating that Tom is a good fellow and the fact that Tom didn't share much of the investigative details with him can cooexist IMO

Well, that's kind of the point I was trying to make. I absolutely believe that AB and Tom have talked ALOT. And I absolutely believe that Tom wasn't sharing any details of this case with AB. So what DID they talk about? Not the weather or politics, I'd venture. So if the father of a murdered child is talking frequently to the chief of police, and the chief of police isn't sharing any details of the murder investigation with the father of the slain child, then I'm guessing these conversations aren't the chit chatty, feel good, "Hey, how ya doin'?" kind of conversations that AB seems to want to imply that they were.

Been staying out of this case. However I'm not sure if this has been talked about as I haven't been paying attention to this case on here and thought I would bring it to the boards attention. The state SBI is handling the evidence in this case. It was fairly recently that the State SBI lab was investigated for wrong doing especially in it's serology lab. Several cases in NC were over turned because of biased reporting, with holding of evidence, and other misconduct by the SBI lab experts (sadly I believe in a couple of those cases the person had been executed).

So given the investigation of the lab it will more then likely take a little longer for them to produce results or hand evidence back to LE for charges as they will need to make sure every T is crossed and I dotted then checked and crossed checked.

This is a high profile case and the State SBI lab can't afford any more scandals or mishaps.

I really thought he would be arrested and we would see indictments in general by now. I know things go slowly and it is better to cautious, but it seems crazy that he is out and about.

Wonder if someone is taking him in Thanksgiving tomorrow.

I hope he chokes on his turkey.

Just sayin'.

Hickory Cops for Tots getting boost from Zahra Memorial

Snipped:

"Investigators plan to take Thanksgiving Holiday as a needed break from the case. Officials say they are hoping everyone comes back from the long weekend rested and with more ideas on how to proceed.

Investigators say a lot of progress has been made but there is much more to do before any charges would be considered and filed against anyone. "

I am keeping my hopes up that after the holiday there will be arrests! I am confused if they would have to wait for the Grand Jury to convene or not, anyone know?

Do we have any photos or information on AB's Father?? I thought that I saw him in a photo or media report but can't seem to find it now!

we've seen pics and footage of EB's father MF, i don't recall ever anything on AB's father, TB, other than this one mention by name:

"Zahra was essentially raised from toddlerhood in Giru by her grandmother Karen, who moved to the township in May 2004 from Newcastle with husband Tony.

Three of their four sons - including Adam - followed them north, and also settled in the town.

With her father and grandfather working shifts at the sugar mill, Zahra and her grandmother formed an extremely close bond".

Reminder: There is to be no sleuthing of non-suspect family members or bystanders outside of what is in the MSM.

Also, do try to stick to initials.
