There's a SS death record for David Dodge from WI on Ancestry that lists date of death as Sept 1984 with last residence in Eatonton, Putnam, Georgia. A genealogist on Ancestry has connected the SS death record to this David Dodge in their family tree but I can't be 100% sure it is him without more info. If it is the missing man, then his family most likely had him declared deceased in Sept 1984. JMO.

Someone phoned a Social Security office to report that David Charles Dodge had died, giving his date of death as Sept. 25, 1984.
But who make that call? Was it someone he knew? Nobody knows.
Social Security records show that whoever called was not a member of his immediate family. But a recording indicates it was a female voice.
No death certificate exists, no report from law enforcement or the coroner's office.
Back in the early 1980s, there was no legal requirement that death notifications to Social Security had to be from an official source or document.

Is there any update on the maple grove remains? Are they still unidentified?

Identified—the WS link above tells the story—arrests made as soon as he was identified, as often happens.

Grrr, i'm such a dumb b.

I just submitted a tip to Polk County Sheriff, listing exactly these ancestry records. Every freaking time I forget to check at websleuths first, the person has already been identified/info submitted. I could slap myself for that kind of idiocy.

Connie Gillis attended in honor of her dad, David Dodge, four decades after he went missing from Frederic, Wisconsin.

“When my father went missing and I had a little child I didn’t know what to do and you didn’t get the help or support at that time,” Gillis explained.

She said now, groups like Wisconsin Missing Persons Advocacy give a voice to the missing and help people heal.

“It was 30 years before I found this group because in that time there was no technology. It was way different,” Gillis said. “They’re different stories but everybody feels the same way.”

If you or someone you know is missing someone, The Wisconsin Missing Persons Advocacy, Inc. has free resources available.

After David disappeared from Wisconsin, he may have moved to Georgia or Florida. He has never been heard from again.

His family believes that his disappearance may have been part of a Social Security fraud scheme and that the woman he was with, was receiving his Social Security checks. The last address that the checks were sent to was a post office box in Milledgeville, Georgia.

The Social Security office received a call to report that David had died, giving the date of death as September 25th, 1984. However, there has been no documentation to verify this.

Below is a photo of David with glasses.

But if this mystery woman was bent on defrauding SS of his benefits, why report him deceased? Because the benefits stop then UNLESS she was trying to claim survivor benefits but that would entail a marriage license at least.

For those going on an Internet chase:

Just for reference, the SSDI states his last residence was in Eatonton, Putnam, Georgia, USA.

Charley's Project writes:
The last address they were sent to was a post office box in Milledgeville, Georgia. Someone later called the Social Security office to report that Dodge had died, giving the date of death as September 25, 1984. However, no death certificate or other documents were located to prove this.

Charley's Project gives his birthday as 04/02/1928, SSDI as 02/13/1928.
