Updating the Namus link : The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs)
Still an open case apparently.
How do I see exclusions? Or can someone update the exclusion list please?

Michael Auteri
The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs)

This man may be considered a possible match.

He is missing out of Pennsylvania.
Stats generally align.
Reported missing March 2000.
He closed banking accounts in 1999, and 2000. Last picked up mail April 2000.
He was wanted for questioning in an alleged sexual assault.
His car was found along a railroad grade (I believe this is where a road and railway interesect) with what appeared to be a suicide note.

Some details above in this link:

Wow - this looks promising! <modsnip> Then what if her fathers middle name was Michael and that ring was passed on to Michael Auteri because he was named after his maternal grandfather? Who’s our ancenstry slueth that can check that? @Keiri ?

I’m intrigued. I agree tea, grandfather makes sense.thats some genius sleuthing you two, I’ve looked at pa so many times but this guy never clicked. The listed contact is Oneida ME crystal Schaub. I’ve dealt with her and she’s great, but slammed. They have 14 more bodies they are trying to get on NaMus. She’s good with email. [email protected] make sure you explain the ring thing.

Oh, derp, I missed your last question. Sure, I’ll check it.
Look at the ring, I have trouble with calligraphy but isn’t the f in the center and larger? That might mean it’s the last name. https://www.namus.gov/api/CaseSets/NamUs/UnidentifiedPersons/Cases/4738/Images/23386/Original
The longer I look at that ring the less I can tell what letters are there.

<modsnip: sleuthing family>

I flipped the ring and now it’s clearly SOMETHING F M - I’m not convinced of the h.IMG_2613.jpeg

Oh my god, I think you are right! That’s an “N”! We just fiddled with contrast on it and there’s no horizontal mark like you’d see for an “H” but there is a slice from top left down toward bottoms right, as you would see on an “N”! We were all thrown off by this thread title. I really think that might be Michael!

I agree. I think it might just be.

You could submit since you have a contact there? I know that Ramapo is doing genetic testing but it might speed up resolving the case.

I REALLY need to learn better ancestry researching!

Didn’t @beavt want to submit it? I can if they don’t want to.

Forgot to add for future reference for other cases, on insignia rings like that, the upper left small letter is first name, the large center letter is last name, and the small lower right letter is middle name. (Source)

The most similar modern font is the Edwardian Script font. Fonts, per se, were invented more recently than this ring. But the Edwardian Script font was developed with early 1900s script in mind. (Source is Googling and sites that sell the font so can’t link)

I can handle today. Thanks.

Done. Although looking, it seems later in life Noey used the middle initial F making it NFF. But who knows?
