I just really suspect foul play because of this fact. If he was trying to ‘go off grid’ he would NOT park on a state highway. He might have parked the van there so that it WOULD more easily be found, since it was the family vehicle and it wasn't like he was actually trying to steal it... just borrowing it. It sure could go either way. IMO, I think he took the phone so his father couldn't alert the authorities and also to plant it at the staged campsite to make sure the authorities found the staged campsite, just like the planted searches on the two cell phones he had about how to travel out of state. We're to believe a 13 year old could travel out of state by himself without food or money? And walking on top of that.
