IMO, that's exactly why I think those two campsites were staged. They wanted people to find the vehicle, find the 'campsites' and find his father's cellphone. You think a 13 year old would be able to stage two campsites? All we saw of those campsites was a news photo of a piece of clothing laying on the ground. Were there even remains of a campfire, evidence of food being eaten? Other clothing left at the first campsite, according to the father, was clothing that James never wore.
And then there's the problem of the dogs picking up any scent leading from the campsite into the woods. There wasn't any. The scent ended at the highway. That means there was at least a second person. An adult. And another vehicle.
And what of the second campsite? Was there any scent left there? What did that campsite consist of? Police were pretty vague on that one, including the exact location.
I'd also factor in his two suspensions late in the 2022-23 school year. The school year in the United States typically ends in late May or early June. So, late in the school year means right before school let out. Whatever those incidents were, they were probably related to James' disappearance. That includes the outcome of those incidents.
I think James was coerced into leaving home. Someone who had a strong enough influence to manipulate him and the ability to groom and coach him. An adult in a position of authority over him. I think we're looking at a child predator.
All in my opinion, of course.
