I have such mixed feelings on this. I understand why they protect victims of sexual assault, but in doing so, I worry that they further stigmatize those victims. Brush it under the rug. Make it a seem like a dirty secret. Whatever she endured with this sicko is NOT Jayme's fault and she should not feel ashamed of any of it (understanding that is easier said than done). God Bless Elizabeth Smart and Jaycee Dugard for turning this thinking around.
Yes, that is all true. But Elizabeth and Jaycee came home to their parents, who were home, alive and well, waiting for them. I think that Jayme has a harder road, in that she has to deal with the brutal slaying of her parents, as part of this horrid nightmare.
So for her to have to also discuss long term sexual assaults during this high profile trial might just be too much for her. She was barely 13 when she was abducted.
