Perp didn’t go but what 5feet into the house, with a shot up, obviously open door. It would not have been that muffled.
That has not been said for definite..IIRC Fitzgerald said with no trace of another person being in that house or no evidence left behind he didnt think the perp could have went more than 5 feet in the house ( not exact words but my interpretation ) of his statement. However today he stated JP went to extensive lengths to hide his identi and plan this ( shaving ect) They may be rethinking that since he went to great lengths.

The second press conference
Maybe they now see things differently! I'm anxious to hear the story of what really led this murderer and kidnapper to the Closs door!

BBM I think we let Jayme decide instead of making assumptions about her. We do not know that she is fragile or that she is averse to holding this creep accountable. This creep needs to be tried for his crimes. Where I live they do not pick and choose which crimes to try the perp for. They try them for all committed and do their best to put them away. The severity of the crimes is what keeps them in jail. If you don't nail it shut, sometimes things happen. Just saying, take no chances as there are always loopholes.
This is why the cops won’t say all they know. Could hinder a trial. Yes we all want to know the how and why, but we will not get that info in the near future.

I'm not the OP, but this was mentioned in today's press conference.

The officer at the conference said the perp carefully planned the killing/kidnapping.

It was just a question. Often times in these type of cases there is a love connection and it isn’t random. If you really want to sleuth, you have to be open minded about these things.
I think this actually has been sleuthed in the past. Since new reports have stated that she did not know the perpetrator until he came to her home this ideology can and should be be squashed.

Has everyone watched the press conference or read the recaps?

Working... did not see much of press conference live...

Did Fitzgerald confirm if Jake Patterson or brother we’re one of the 2,000 search volunteers....it isn’t probably relevant just curious if he showed up for that.

I have a question, and oh, how I hate to get back into the " door discussion".

We are required to have heavy double- steel core doors which open to the outdoors by our insurance company... No exceptions. This is a basic security measure where I live. I don't know if it's national or regional, or what, but all my doors have been double steel core with no glass inserts or decorative windows. I might should say the known fact that I live in a private community with new tech. operated gates, a manned guard station at both entrances, a fence around the property and patrolling guards 24/7, as well as an emergency guard to call and a sheriff's deputy with an on-site station.
We paid a lot for real estate with security I needed at the time. :)

If the Closs house had double core steel doors, could the assailant still have " shot his way in" if this is how he or they entered?
Wouldn't it take many shots and efforts to defeat double steel core doors or am I badly mistaken?
It's not just the door itself in question. There's the frame, too. A steel door can still be kicked in if there's a standard wood frame around it. Shooting is another story, but is kinda a moot point. Most houses in that region at that price point have solid core wood doors (as entry doors).

Perp didn’t go but what 5feet into the house, with a shot up, obviously open door. A third shot would not have been that muffled.
Two adults were killed, the door was shot. Those are the facts. Not sure what you're debating - help me understand your point.

Never open a closed door in the middle of the night maybe? Well to me that’s common sense, guess not others. I have a crazy drugged up neighbor that did that at 6am on a Sunday. U think I didn’t go to my door locked and loaded? Sorry I’m a person that would rather be prepared vs not. Just saying...

According to this he didn't open the door. I need to go back and listen to PC
"In a second press conference, Sheriff Fitzgerald revealed more details: Jayme was reunited her aunt. A shotgun was recovered but will be analyzed by the state Crime Lab. Fitzgerald said a gun was also used to shoot open the door at the Closs home on the night of the incident. It was not kicked in as was previously reported in dispatch records."

Naturally, I am eager to hear more on Monday. For now, I am just so thankful Jayme is safe. I pray that she will find healing, sooner rather than later.
I agree. I don’t desire nor need to hear any gory details, but I do admit to badly wanting to know how she devised her escape.

Repost of my press conference notes:

Jayme reunited with family.

Not releasing information that will upset Jayme.

Gun consistent with murders has been recovered. Awaiting ballistics testing.

Shotgun.

Used to shoot open door at Closs home. Door not kicked in.

Shaved his head to not leave evidence at crime scene.

Nothing shows that the suspect knew anyone in Closs family.

Specifically targeted Jayme. This was planned.

Suspect not at home when Jayme escaped.

Suspect tried to find her after she escaped.

Why?: police trying to figure that out.

No social media connection. Don’t know how he became aware of Jayme.

Jayme is talking.

Search warrants being served.

Looking to see if he had help.

911 call wasn’t helpful (bad audio).

Jayme was kept in a home.

More than one gun was recovered, but the shotgun recovered is key.

We will learn a lot during his court appearance on Monday.

Way behind. But in the last thread someone asked if Wisconsin has ever had a public trial. Yes. The Dahmer trial was televised, I watched the whole thing, because I wanted to try to understand what can happen to a person's mind, to do things like that? Instead, I watched days of testimony about the horrible details he did to each person, while watching their families devastated faces. Just watching scarred me. And in the end, he never said a word. I regretted watching. But, yes.

A little comment to a couple other things I saw on the last thread. I heard FB locked up Patterson's account, not that he did. I suppose to preserve for evidence. And I thought Sheriff Fitzgerald's elation at the press conference was quite reasonable and appropriate.

Sleuthing, while Patterson had a clean record, his older brother certainly did not. Even though he's a big guy, his brother is a lot bigger, and several years older. I wouldn't be surprised if he had a lot of trauma as a youngster. The parents divorced, and pretty much just went their separate ways seemingly leaving the kids to their own devices. I think his history will show a lot of things that contributed to him being pretty screwed up. I wish, that what could come of cases like this, would be to somehow identify these people and get them help BEFORE they go own to destroy others. Of course there's too many problems with it, it's impossible, it violates people's rights, to do something before they have committed a crime. But, I can wish.

I'm not sure it was ever said that he was destitute. There's plenty of slackers out there who manage to leech of their parents for their entire lives. We'll have to wait and see about all that. What is an issue is if it was turned over to the credit union, he had the clock ticking on how long he could stay there undetected.
Yes and so Jayme took her chance and ran and I believe - saved herself IMO

I apprec

Great post, I was feeling the same way. I think it may be empowering for her to testify and something she may regret not doing. I bet she is tougher than some think. She did nothing wrong, she is a survivor. If she did indeed suffer sexual assault the shame would be feeling she had to be protected from it. She is strong, she will get through this. I understand wanting to protect her but that's not real nor therapeutic in my opinion

As a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, and a longtime advocate of support groups, I have spoken to and heard from hundreds of survivors over the years.

Although I do agree with the sentiment of your post, I think it would be right on for an older teen, or a young woman. And one who was sexually assaulted, but not necessarily a 13 yr old, who was orphaned by the sexual attacker. THAT BRINGS THIS WHOLE THING INTO ANOTHER LEVEL, IMO.

When we say how great and empowered she'd feel, are we forgetting that she is still in middle school, and needs to face her peers every day, and all of the teachers, etc. Does she really want them all to have a play by play description of the sexual acts this monster perpetrated upon her, for 3 months straight?

It does not mean she is weak, or ashamed. It just means that she deserves some privacy, as a 13 yr old, who shouldn't even have to deal with these things yet. She should be looking forward to her first romantic kiss, not having to deal with all of the boys knowing her forced sexual history as it hits the airwaves.

It would be empowering if she was a college student and decided to testify. But she is a little girl. That makes this a different situation. And we shouldn't ignore that in the context of a potential sexual assault.

I disagree wholeheartedly when people say 'she shouldn't be protected from' others knowing about the details because that would indicate shame. It is not about shame. It is about simple privacy and normalcy.

She should be allowed some sense of normalcy in her little world of friendships and future relationships. There doesn't need to be any transcripts describing the horrors perpetrated upon this innocent young girl if she does not want there to be one. She should have that right to decide for herself without others guilting her into it. JMO IMO MOO
