Oh I know, how weirdly insensitive was all that?! It made me mad at first and then just sad for SS. He was revictimized all over again.Watching the 20/20 on Cary Stayner last night, it's amazing at how far the media has come from Steven Stayner's abduction in the 70s. When he was reunited with his family, the media actually announced that there were "homosexual relations" with him and his captor. He was 7 years old when he was kidnapped-that's not a relationship, that's a pedophile raping a child. It caused a ton of problems with bullying in his high school. They also had Steven and his family doing press conferences and interviews right there on the steps of his home as he was being reunited with the rest of his family. And when he appeared on "Good Morning America", the interviewer even asked him why he'd never tried to escape.
At least, if nothing else, we've come farther than that. Of course, now we have a lot more understanding of trauma, particularly when it comes to abductions.
I'm thrilled Jayme won't be forced to divulge the personal details and relive her time with JP to LE, the courts and the public. She needs time and healing and even then, recovery won't be easy. My only hope is that she will be able to move forward, one step at a time, at her own time.
I'd be okay for all of this to slowly fade away from the spotlight. I'll always remember this case, it was a lesson of hope for me, I just felt she was alive somewhere.
<okay, maybe I'd like an update in 5-10 years to see how wonderful she is again lol>
