First - shout out to those who already have mentioned that the perps managed to leave so little DNA: suggests planned, suggests people who know how to not contaminate an area: people who might work at a meat processing plant, or hospital staff, and have access to 'scrubs'.

Having said that - I'm off on a tangent....I will try to minimize speaking of a former case, but it is integral to my entire point: but I'll endeavor to

I am referencing the Short murders: mother, father shot dead in home, daughter missing: found almost two months later in October 2002, shot in the back of the head as her parents had been, it could not be determined if she was sexually assaulted due to decomposition.

Soooo: Here we have a mother, a father shot dead, they too have a single child a daughter: missing. Mother and father also have an age difference (14 in Short case, 10 in Closs)

Mother's both work/ed in a factory plant......

Both crimes happened on the 15th (& to play numerology games August (month of Short murders) = 8, October= 10....18...2018 Now sounds silly to us, but to some psychopath, maybe not so much so)

Both homes are on thoroughfares - the Closs less so than the other case (Short case many gas stations etc seemed like big place for travellers to stop)

the Short murders had a fresh press release on October 1 of this year, just prior to the anniversary of finding Jennifer

Now: here's what I'm thinking: possible Closs perp read that October 1st article & got 'inspired'.....

OR WHAT IF
our perp is one & the same....

I think presumably a he, is a resident of Barron: now maybe previously he was a resident of Martinsville, VA : this theory is if he was a former co-worker of Mary Short & moved to Barron later

I lean toward the perp being a truck driver - and has been based in Barron for awhile

Short owned a mobile home moving service: if not mistaken there is one nearby the Closs home (?) he would know/employ truckers, they would know truckers themselves and so on: a network

The perp saw their target (being the girl in the respective cases) & became obsessed

In Jayme's case: I was hesitant because I felt a pedophile profile for abducting a 9 year old versus 13 would be very different...however, Short case was 16 years ago....our perp may have changed
OR

our perp may have noticed Jayme years ago, but because this is his 'backyard', his home town, he feels too risky......

who knows why, maybe the Short murders being in the news, it being October, etc. or maybe even that Jayme is growing up: but he decides to act....

Here's the thing though, motive: is the perp a pedophile, or did he wish, in both cases, to silence the family, and make it look pedophile, sexual in nature when it was not???

Possible...but..

if this is the same perp, there are too many similarities: it just so happens that a man of a certain age who just so happens to have a younger wife of a certain age who just so happens to have a single child who is a girl also just so happens to know stuff about you that will ruin your life.....not likely.....

So: motive
1.) copy cat, perp was inspired by Short murders a) it was to silence the Closs family b) the target was indeed Jayme

2.) Said perp saw the girl(s) became obsessed and used this method to abduct them (admittedly odd method, plus, how often do pedophiles kill the children with gun shots? re: short case)

3.) In both cases, if same perp, said perp was initially drawn to the mother, rebuffed, sought revenge & took the daughter as 'consolation'

In both cases the crime is controlled, quick - done in the night......this is no bumbling idiot with a gun, but someone who can use one efficiently and 'execute' his mission

If this IS the same perp, and he has been a long time resident of Barron (maybe a truck driver or at the plant) he may see Jayme, the similarities, whether drawn to Denise initially or Jayme herself, and the circumstances of their lives, etc and think it's a 'redo': that this time Jayme will be his bride and be groomed to be his wife......

OR

Perp thinks he's 'so smart' and right around the anniversary of Jennifer being found, same month & same day of previous murders is compelled to 'copy cat' himself....

Thanks for humoring me!! Thank goodness we have this place, this forum :)

Either way.....there are much too many 'coincidences' here...this is either the same perp or a copy cat....IMO

(want to add that in the Short case the fact the FBI etc were later convicted of drug dealing & etc really taints the entire case, but...I don't think it detracts from my theories )
I hope this all makes some sense...It's pretty complex, but I feel hamstrung with following TOS rules (though I am glad they exist all the same)

Gun raffles are very common in WI. If you win one, you have to go though a background check before you actually get it.

Maybe gun raffles are very common, but not from police departments surely? I sincerely hope that after the murders of James and Denise the Barron County Sheriff's Department won't be holding another gun raffle in the very near future.

If you do the registration in person, in Wisconsin, it goes in the computer system immediately. And they print out the title and hand it to you immediately.
I'm not sure if you have to do the registration in person. I always have.
I'm not saying it's legal. But its a possibility, that someone would buy a vehicle, not get around to transferring the title, and stick their old plates on it so they were unapt to get pulled over.
Can anyone find a photo where they are able to make out the plate number and see if it's copied wrong?
It's called 'title jumping' here. It's done to avoid paying sales tax. Not saying that's what was done, just pointing out the records do not match...

I understand how it should work and what is legal, but does a car ever get sold and someone forget to take the tags off?

By tags I assume you mean license plate. Yes, most likely if you buy a car from someone from Minnesota.

I haven't got to look yet, but does it show the closs name attached to the plates or just a car type?

Just the car type. 2009 black Toyota.

In Indiana the owner keeps the plate too. The plate I currently have one one of my cars has been used on three different vehicles. Lease a car, trade it in, keep the plate for the new car. Repeat.

You have 30 days after purchasing a vehicle to go to the BMV and register the plate to your new vehicle.
Wonder what the license plate rules are for the various provinces in Canada.

what if the perp decided on the town simply for the name. I hadn't considered this until I typed the town name into msn to look for the county page and the first suggestion that came up has nothing, zero, to do with the town and while I should have known why the town name sounded familiar to me, it didn't even cross my mind, but to a crazy person it might.

I think it could be a typo. I tried things visually close. 930RNG is what the log says. 930RNC is a white 92 Ford. Is her car a 92?

So the license plate look up only gives the car not the info of who owns it? That makes me feel 1 million percent better!

I am coming from being invested in the Kelsey Berreth, Shannan Watts, and Mollie Tibbetts cases which I’ve focused on for the past couple of months.

I am still learning about this one. I can’t help but feel this was a random perp that might be a pedophile? Why kill the parents and take Jayme?

Could Jayme have met someone online? I’d assume LE would know that by now if that were the case?

Yes. Plate number, Expiration, Year, Make, Color, RRN (registration number I think.)

I think a lot of us were having a breakdown thinking any random whack job could see our kids or grandkids in a parking lot and decide to find out who they are by finding it on the DMV. It is not possible then

(Delete—it’s a white ford but not sure of year. If it’s an escape I don’t think they were made in 92.....)

Have you read the background information on page 1 of this thread? It will be useful to you if you don't know much about this case.

Why? In Wisconsin you paid for the plate for a year, it is yours for a year. If you don't keep the car you can use it on a different car. If you sell the car, you keep the plate.
In Minnesota the plate stays on the car. If you sell the car the plate & registration go with it.
It's confusing when you live in one and buy a car in the other. :)
If you buy the plate and it doesn't matter what car you put it on, why not just buy a plate that says ''Go Packers' and stick it on whatever? How is sales tax recorded or tracked. What if your car is stolen how is it traced. I just think it's pretty loosy goosey...but that's just me!!

It is possible. There is a pause button on looking at that here, fwiw, since there is no evidence she had a boyfriend of any type. We do know she had a cell phone, which was charging in the kitchen at the time of the crime.

I know tags here can not be transferred between people, but I have bought a car and for whatever reason, unknown reason to me, it still had previous owners plates on it. I have also been a unwilling party to someone tradeing plates with me. I haven't got to look yet, but does it show the closs name attached to the plates or just a car type?
Just make model and year of the car..no name???

Who in the name of God came up with this crazy idea to raffle guns just to raise some funds? Sheriff Fitzgerald talks about it nonchalantly as if they are raffling off boxes of chocolates - astonishing! Do we know who actually won these weapons in the raffle draw?

No idea... 60 yrs ago maybe a good idea when u would hunt a lot of your meals....

You still had to pass background check.. don’t know why you’d raffle a semi auto r15 .. that’s for elk... guess you could always have a group of chain smoking elk causing trouble in town.. that’s a powerful gun.

Every thread, every case I follow I learn more and more...and less.
In the Tibbetts case, I was absolutely *positive* that her killer was someone from her extended social circle who knew she would be alone while dog sitting for her boyfriend. Not so - a random Perp who attacked her on impulse. God know how many others he has attacked in a similar manner during his "black outs". (Ha!)

With the subject of this thread, our dear Jayme, I just don't know except I have a great deal of faith in the Sheriff who has schooled us not to listen to any info that doesn't come directly from him. There are so many rumors flying around, and most of them insulting to Jayme and/or her parents. With a paucity of information, this is sadly inevitable. Not right, but inevitable.

As far as I can tell, very little has been ruled out at this time, except for that miscreant who stole some of her undergarments. This being said, the only logical motive I can come up with is retribution for some perceived, extreme grievance. But of course, attempting to apply logic to an insane act is a fairly fruitless endeavor. Let's hope law enforcement science and forensics can do a better job than my ponderings!

Opinion and speculation only

When you buy a car you go register it. They ask you if you need a plate or if you have one you can transfer to it. If you transfer, they link the plate number to the new vehicle, and the old vehicle is no longer licensed.

Mollie was a fairly easy case to wrap our heads around, as we had a pretty obvious motive from the get-go.

Those cases are almost always sexually motivated, and the only real question is the “who.”

The problem with this case, is that it doesn’t have a clear motive, nor a great deal of precedent.

Jayme could have been the intent, or she could have been “a bonus” for this sicko.

If you have a clear motive, you have a better idea of where to look.

If that’s in question, then everything is in question.

Not a good place to be.
