Odd, isn't it? The first time I heard the clock was wrong I swear it said the FBI told them. Now I find direct quotes that indicate it was the sheriff.

Really?? It was the feds or so it was said that they told her her clock was off--maybe they did not interview her but the way i recall it they told her her clock was off... which i took to mean they did both, interview and tell her that...

They did not call, though. So there is no indication any LE went to their house that night ( or morning, really)

I think we may be missing each other's points. So the other addresses in the call log called in and that is why those addresses are in there and the Smrekars address is not?

Has this been mentioned? That the dog found a tablet in the Closs home? This would mean that it was in an area that the original investigators did not find it, which would mean it was probably hidden. Interesting.
I don’t know about being purposely hidden. I think I might need a sniffer dog to help me find my old tablets and phones in my house. I know my parents lost one as well. It’s in the attic somewhere but now that they want it again, they can’t find it.

So which way was it off?

We have them saying it was the Sheriff yet others say FBI.

So the neighbors could be so freaked that they are not thinking clearly and they are saying the wrong time

Some called in and some had LE sent to them.

I would think if officers were dispatched to their house, their address would be there.

They have never said they called LE, have they ( the neighbors)

There are a number of valid scenarios because there are few hard facts. Some, like the actual TODs, we just don't know for sure. Mistakes, holding back evidence, etc. mean we can't be 100% sure. Things in the call log are about all we really have. The searcher dog found something, but "probably" a tablet. Etc.

What you're discussing here, ilovechili, is a scenario I wonder about, too.

I am not sure what I mean, I can think of a few different scenarios with that as a starting point. But yes, some of them would fit what we do know better than some theories... and we would not have to necessarily change the Smrekar time line...

So the sheriff personally himself interviewed them? I am a bit lost here. I will not claim to know as I am one in the beginning that never saw their interviews, only read them.. I do know from day one I understood it to the the feds not the sheriff that interviewed them.

Could the neighbors be confused about the time as in actually their clock was seven mins slow?

It certainly would fit.

If someone else was shooting that night, why have they not come forward? Shooting at an animal is not forbidden.

How far away are other people to the Closs home?

The neighbors must have had their lights on but the perp (s) did not choose that house.

The neighbors are older than Jim. The Closs’s had a big pick up in the yard which would indicate, to me, a younger guy who may be a challenge to a perp. Yet, the perp (s) came anyway. That is why I think they were targeted.
Maybe they did but the sheriff isn't saying anything.

We can disbelieve them or not, she never said she knew her clock to be off the way I understood it, she was told by LE that it was. Yet if it was, people set them ahead in their bedroom, not behind and most know they have done that. I guess if battery maybe it is losing time...? Odd, like everything else I guess. Who knows right?

You think that police investigating a crime scene such as this would not find an electronic device during their investigation? I disagree.
Raises hand! Absolutely! I challenge LE to find all of my electronics. Last week I found a bag of old phones we should have recycled in a very odd place. And if they could please find my old kindle, I would very much appreciate it. If it was put in a box in the attic among dozens of other boxes in the attic like my parents have apparently done with one of their old devices, it would be easier just to bring a sniffer dog in.

I don't think they talked to them until later so how long does the log go on? And I wonder who contacted who first?

Entries in the log go all the way through the 19th from the 15th.

I read the CNN transcript where Mrs. Smrekar came on the phone while they were talking to the sheriff. She had to tell him all about the car at the plant. But he already knew about it and it had been cleared. It seems to me like she is trying to insert herself.

I guess I am wondering what makes the log and what does not. When the brother called in, it made the log. So one would think a phone call would. When other addresses are listed, both Cumberland and a neighboring rural Barron home, I guess I would think no one called in, they decided to go there for a reason. Yet I do not know, just going with logic.

I guess I always assumed with the Smrekars it was not in the log because it was a fed agent that talked to them (as was said). We do have to admit the log is not full of fed contacts or activities, it is full of patrol/officer #s and activities. Therefore, I figured it fit that it was they that talked with them.

But who knows? If it doesn't work that way, and I have no idea how such things work, then who knows what is not in the log or what that may mean or what is and why those contacts are listed when perhaps others are not.

Maybe no one talked with the neighbors for all we know and it was a dream she had....

Seriously, we know nothing--who knows?

:)

Anything a dispatcher handles goes into the log from the time the incident is opened until it's closed. It can be amended with additional information, which I assume the last "late entry" message is.

The radio log is a bit different here. I also don't see a close incident entry -- I suppose it's possible this call was still technically open when the report was generated.

Things like LE canvassing the area would not make the dispatch log usually.

Right. Out of sight I would understand. But in an area where only a dog is able to find it after a team of investigators did not is very odd to me. I cannot think of a reason to hide a device so well that investigators would not find it when investigating a double murder unless someone REALLY didn't want it found.

My tablet that I use for playing games and reading books is always sliding down between the cushions and I have to take the cushions off and lift the leg rest and crawl underneath to get it back.

The neighbors were in bed. Maybe they park their vehicles in their garage. Do we know what their vehicles are?
Would be awfully coincidental if someone else was shooting at the same time as a double homicide.
Just pointing these things out because I have thought the same things. I think it was intentional too, but not directed at Jayme.

They had just gone to bed? I think. So their lights must have been on shortly before.

I have no idea of their vehicles. I wonder if anyone does?

I appreciate your knowledge on this. So can I ask why you think the one neighboring address was an entry, just in your opinion? Yet the Smrekars are not?

I think if tbere was a double murder next to me, I would be freaked beyond belief. Can you even imagine it!

I would want to help in anyway I could. And in the few days of total freakedoutness, I would not be thinking clearly.

She didn't just talk to the press when they were outside her home. She invited them in and posed for pictures and interviews. She called in to publicly talk to the sheriff even though he already had the information. I watched the interview on the DM site and in that she said they were in bed and she had to shake her husband and ask if that was a gun shot but at another point she says they weren't in bed because they had just gotten home. They also talk about the helicopters going over and he says "its uncomfortable" then tries to fix that statement by adding oh no really uncomfortable but blah blah. It seems like one will say something then the other will try to correct it or make it sound better.
