If "Cafe Guy" is guilty he has to be freaking out right about now. He said in the interview that he willingly gave his fingerprints, DNA, etc.

Someone refresh my memory. Did LE go to him or did he go to LE? I think I heard he went to LE as soon as he heard she was missing.

Here's a new thought. He tells police she left with someone else. Gives the description of the person she went with. LE makes a sketch based on his description and immediately starts showing it around town. They then realize based on phone records, witnesses, etc. he is the actual perp. Maybe that is why they have been very clear the the person in the sketch is no longer a person of interest.

Is this what you were saying too JimNikki?

It would appear she had already run into that specific guy though...

"He says he didn't know Kelly very well..."
+
" He told me Kelly was out with friends downtown Madison that night and her friends left and Kelly stayed in the bar with him."
= 'first' date like scenario.

According every report I've seen, friends parted from Kelly @ 11:30pm at State Street Brats, which IMO would logically mean that this individual was with her there and subsequently the rest of the night, going to or meeting at the Lava Lounge afterwards, until he was walking her home at bar time...where, after all those hours together (probably drinking), the unknown person comes in, and he left her with him during the 4 block walk home.

I have since changed my thoughts on the Cafe Guy. I'm no longer sure there was ever a second guy. Is that what you are saying?

Does anyone recall that there was a ketch of an unknown man that police were initially searching for? Then, recently reports indicated that was a dead end? Is it possible that the unknown man's description was given by the bouncer who said he handed he off to a man? If this is accurate, and please correct me if I am mistaken, is the bouncer a possible POI?

His story sounds possible, but I have to agree with ya - he was the last one to see her alive and, IMO, at this point in time, he would be my #1 suspect.

Yes, I totally hear that. Logically, he should be.
But he's so unfishy, somehow!

They mentioned the sketch, said he is not a POI and have cleared him. They added they are going back to reinterview others since the case has changed status.

That's what I was trying to get at as well. See two posts above yours. Didn't think he was a bouncer though. But may have missed something.

Even if they "Cleared" him, though, could it be that he is still suspect? LE never likes to name anyone in advance for fear of the person fleeing town.
I remember Scott Peterson wasn't a person of interest, either, wink wink.

He's supposedly in her circle of friends but not close and they were both hanging out in the same group of friends. Friends all left, leaving Cafe Guy and Kelly who left the bar together and he was going to walk her home. Supposedly (and now that I type this, it sounds very fishy, so take back my last post) they met another male who "said he knew Kelly" and would take her home, so cafe guy and kelly parted ways - kelly went with this other guy.

Yeh, that other guy doesnt' exist.

I also wonder if she may of called a friend who was married. Could she of been seeing a married man? If she was out with friends she could of called him & threatened to tell his wife?

Guess possibilities are endless til we hear more.
Anything is possible. There could be another COB out there somewhere.

Yes, this is what I am wondering. Since details from LE are sketchy it is hard to know what they are thinking and who is who. But, this does seem possible. Also, I thought I heard that the the man went to LE two days after Kelly disappeared. Does anyone else recall anything similar to this? I am unsure because I was working, coming and going, and heard something like this on the news in passing.

Entomologist, crime lab forensic team, etc. have arrived on scene this morning. Their hope is to remove the body sometime today before storms hit. Good!

  • #392
gosh, they haven't removed the body yet :(
so sad.
Her dad dies, step mom dies and now she dies. I feel sorry for her sister :(
Prayers for her mom, sister and her family and friends.

Was it just 4 blocks from the Lava Lounge to Kelly's home?

It is a little hard to believe that this guy wasn't interested in spending the night with her after many hours of drinking together.

But, another question--didn't the guy from Lava Lounge pass a polygraph?

I think when this first occured, LE focused on Kelly and recent events in her life and just assumed she may be another Audrey, so didn't put a whole lot of effort into looking at anything else that might be going on. They probably interviewed some family members and friends and that was it.

I think April told them that she talked to her in the early morning hours and she said she was at LL or partying somewhere (maybe near the property she was found on) with a guy she liked (in my opinion it may be Cafe Guy). They interviewed Cafe Guy and he said he was with her and then she left with someone else. He provided a description of the guy and the police took his word for it in the beginning. Maybe one cop was on the case taking a sketch around to look like they were doing something.

I truly don't think a whole lot was done to look into another direction for the next week or so, they just figured she would eventually show up. Once they realized she hadn't come home and the family was starting to put more pressure on, they realized there might be a problem (remember they said up until Saturday that they did not feel foul play was involved). I think it was at that point they requested phone records and started looking into other possibilities and suspects. Once they actually put some effort into the case, things have started to move pretty quick. I have a feeling they'll announce a suspect shortly.

No, when they use the word "cleared", ...it means they have totally excluded him from the pool of suspects/pois. They are very careful in their wording when dealing with this issue. Not being named a suspect or a POI is different. They are using this tactic most of the time now. It is a strategic move to avoid certain pitfalls in the investigation, IMO.

I think they may have a suspect and announce who it is soon, too. I wonder if they have or hone in on a suspect if they will be able to trace pings from his cell phone from the bar to the drop site. Now that would be good evidence in addition to what ever else they find. Whomever did this to dear Kelly needs to face justice and never walk free again. Prayers to Kelly's family; I can't imagine what they are going through right now.

I don't know about four blocks, but very close. Still, no one recalls seeing her in or near the LL that night. (I need to find that article again.)

If this is the employee, he took one and BethinAK is correct...I can't find where it says he passed it. http://www.nbc15.com/home/headlines/8209357.html

It says he TOOK a polygraph, not that he passed a polygraph.
I haven't seen anywhere that he passed a polygraph.
You are correct. I revised that post. It doesn't say anywhere he passed it! :waitasec:

Does anyone know how polygraphs work? Does LE tell you right away whether you have passed or not?
