WI - Madison, school shooting at Abundant Life Christian School 16 Dec 2024

The fact that two others are critical makes me think her plan was a bit broader than a single specific target.

She could have also just been a bad shot, so who knows.
I was thinking the same thing. I think the others were just lucky to not be hit fatally. Praying for those in critical condition still.

On her T-shirt are the letters 'KMFDM"

no majority for the pity

Sascha Konietzko performing in 2022. KMFDM is an initialism for the nonsensical and grammatically incorrect German phrase Kein Mehrheit Für Die Mitleid, which, keeping the same word order, literally translates as "no majority for the pity", but is typically given the loose translation of "no pity for the majority".

I listen to KMFDM and have seen them in concert. It is a genre of music commonly known as industrial music that combines synths, big beats, and guitars, and it happens to be my favorite type of music. KMFDM were unfortunately cited by the Columbine shooters too and took a hard stand against their actions back in 1999. They would not support what happened in this case either. I met Sascha at their show and he was calm, cool, friendly, and down to earth. One of their famous songs is “A Drug Against War,” in which they describe their own music as being just that. They do not support this kind of violence. It is often an angry, abrasive type of music that can attract the down and out though.

Let’s not judge (and not saying you personally are) based on the type of music she listened to, as I have listened to this style of music since high school and have never hurt anyone. I happen to be a high school teacher of 27 years and lead vocalist, keyboard player, and songwriter for two industrial bands over the years myself! While industrial music is a counterculture movement that can draw some interesting types of people, I love the energy of the music.

Yup. Major outlier in that regard. School shooters/mass shooters in general, are almost always male.

Of course you are right @MassGuy that school shooters and mass shooters are usually male, but this isn't the first female school shooter we've seen in recent times and, IMO, she won't be the last.

Societal and/or gender stereotypical barriers against committing this kind of violent act seem to be weakening, ever so gradually, or...

What I'm trying to say is that acting out in such a senseless, cruel way seems to have become a genuine option for desperately unhappy individuals, increasingly so, and in time I believe we'll see more females making this choice. JMO.

I don't know what parts of herself she had to shut down or override to be able to kill and injure people today and then kill herself, but it's horrible to know this young woman chose violence rather than anything else and we'll likely never know why.

Wisconsin school shooter was a 17-year-old girl, what we know

From your link at about 1:55 mark ; "...shooter's family is cooperating...".
That's good to hear.

My guess is they may still be facing charges ?
Maybe not, though.
If there were no red flags, and all seemed to be ok -- this is going to be very hard for them as well.

Isn't this a bit unusual, a female shooter? I remember there was a case maybe one or two years ago (also in the USA, killer's name Audrey Hale.) but other than this person, I think I have not heard of many cases, in any country, where the shooter was a born female.

Wisconsin school shooter planned attack in advance, law enforcement source says

From CNN’s Shimon Prokupecz
The shooter at the Abundant Life Christian School planned the attack in advance, a law enforcement official familiar with the investigation tells CNN.

The source indicated that information gathered by investigators suggests the shooter had been dealing with problems and expressed some of those in writings, which they are now reviewing.

The parents of the shooter are cooperating with authorities and are being interviewed by Madison police detectives, Police Chief Shon Barnes told reporters in a news briefing Monday.

" Dealing with Problems" ??????
I should say not...

“Officers located a juvenile who they believe was responsible for this deceased in the building,” he said.

“We believe the shooter was a student at the school, yes,” the chief later confirmed when asked.

man I hate to read that we've had yet another school shooting. This was never something we or our parents thought about when I was a child. It just wasn't a worry back in the 60s and 70s. In many ways I think it is harder to be a kid nowadays. screen time, social media, threats like school shootings. Praying for all involved.
I could't agree more @tlcya. I worry so much about my grand children and the world they are growing up in.

Thanks for your review of that music, I am unfamiliar with it -- will have to take a listen !

At this time, I blame the shooter only for this evil act, and nothing else.

It would be interesting to know if mental health and/or certain meds had a part ?

Actually, it was, but we didn't have CNN or the Internet to inform us of things that happened in other areas.

I grew up in Des Moines, Iowa, which has had two fatal shootings in recent years (both involving gangs) but my junior high had one in 1972, just a few years before I went there, and I never knew about it until people started talking about it on that school's Facebook page. Nobody was shot, but a boy who was being bullied brought a rifle to school and fired a few shots into a wall before a teacher tackled him, and several kids had cuts and scrapes from jumping out a first-floor window.

A decade later, a high school had a murder/suicide involving a boy, and a girl who wasn't interested in him. He had stalked her relentlessly for a couple of years, and because they were minors and his dad was a lawyer, not much could be done about it, or so it seemed.
