Found Alive WI - Ryan Borgwardt, 45, Green Lake, 11 Aug 2024 *evidence that he faked his death and is alive in Eastern Europe*

Is he concerned that RB harmed her? I am confused by his statements. JMO

This story has made national news and I think it likely local LE are concerned the mistress could be subject to the same fury that RB is receiving from around the world for emotionally torturing his family, friends, and community, by faking his death. For all we know, he arrived in the foreign land telling his new found friends he was single and available-- instead of an adulterer seeking to escape from his real life.

I'm also thinking about McDonald's and its employee who called 911 to report LM, shooter of UHC CEO, and how the public turned against them for doing what IMO was the right thing.

The public can be fickle and social media can incite terrible things. MOO

Maybe the woman is also married, and may be facing serious complications if her name goes out , in that different culture/religion ? Just saying…I cannot figure out otherwise why a US deputy would be worried for a foreign woman (other than a criminal network).
Very strange what DailyMail reports…
In the hypothetical case she is married:

If she is Uzbek, most likely she is Sunni Muslim (close to 90% of the locals are) and adultery is officially a crime punishable by law in that country. Georgia would deport her back to Uzbekistan (if they heard of this story and a judge considered it to be a scam) where she would end up in prison.

If she is a Christian (and maybe that's the reason she moved to Georgia as Christians are harassed in Uzbekistan for being members of a minority religion) same fate, Georgia would send her back to Uzbekistan and she would end up in prison.

Jmoo.

Edited: I do not know why the link is showing as Technical Difficulties as its title. It is a report published by the US Embassy in Uzbekistan and the link works fine.

Exactly my thoughts…

No, not a guy. The person police found a picture of on his computer, the person who then spoke to LE over the phone and put them in touch with Ryan, and the person who picked him up at the airport are the same woman. Jmoo.

He said he realised he had made a big mistake because, with police having a picture of the woman, they could quickly track him down by using image reverse search. No doubt (and obviously, it is just my speculation) this woman had used the same picture, something sexy, to ''lure'' other wealthy American men (wealthy in her mind, not reality as it turned out with Ryan who comes across as poorer than church mice), so him leaving the photo on his computer screen was the mistake (in his mind.) There are specific websites to start this type of relationship with women from three ex Soviet republics. I am guessing Ryan was using one of those sites, or she first targeted him through sending him a flirty message via FB and then redirected him to her profile on the site. This is how they later ''siphon'' money which looks like what happened to Ryan who came back to the US with just a $20 bill.

This practice is really common in some population pockets in certain countries. Ryan is not the first fool that falls for it and he won't be the last.

All of it my opinion (I have in the past worked as a teacher in three countries in that part of the world and this stuff has been going on for years; even some of my local colleagues in one of the schools I taught were involved in this!)
Re: photo and actual woman who picked him up at airport. Were they the same woman? Why show him the actual photo when he has already seen the woman? I don't get it.

To show him that they knew what he was up to. To show him that they found the clue that proved he was alive and that this was a scam. LE sent it to him to let him know the gig was up. IMO

To be clear, authorities surprised RB when they contacted him by email and showed him evidence he left behind on his wife's computer including a photo of the mistress! Per the criminal complaint, RB had replaced the hard drive to that computer and was unaware he left this evidence behind when he backed up one of his electronic devices. Hence, his reference to his "big mistake."

As a way to say ''Stop the silly game, we know what you have done'' and encourage him to not waste their time/resources in trying to find his exact location.

Because RB is married the “mistress” will likely be considered an adulteress. That might get her in trouble.
So, should there be sympathy for? Would be interesting to know about her, if she was honestly interested in him or interested in an American that had $$$ and, of course, if she knew what he did.

That is a great question. If she orchestrated this, and blew through RB’s money, she gets what she deserves. If she was duped, I truly feel sorry for her.

Police later learned, in October, that Borgwardt had crossed the border into Canada a few days after his disappearance, on August 13, and had been communicating with a Uzbek woman who spoke Russian.

Green County Chief Deputy, Vande Kolk, confirmed to DailyMail.com that the two 'connected online', but said he could not elaborate further at this stage.

Through her, the sheriff's office was able to get in contact with Borgwardt and asked him to answer questions only he would know and to film a video of himself, which he did.

In the video, Borgwardt - who has not contacted his family since faking his own death - showed off his apartment, telling officers: 'I am safe, secure, no problems.'

Meanwhile, his devastated wife Emily, and their three children, have been grieving their loss, believing for months he was likely dead.

In EB's petition for legal separation, we learned that RB was a self employed carpenter and at one time a janitor for the school district. It seems the janitor position was very short lived! But he did receive a $5K judgement after filing a grievance in 2010 for wrongful termination (fired for using school computer).

I don't think LE has indicated that it's a Hollywood story about "an evil eastern european woman wanting the money of a rich American man in an ellaborate scam". I find that type of stereotypes quite harmful, frankly. I am not ruling any scenario out, as we have no info, but for now, the unknown woman is also a victim of Ryans stupidity and Ryan is the only person charged here.

Highlighting these interesting statements:
'I think a lot of people are going to see that communication, and again, they're going to see the people side of our business.

'And I think there maybe even some people are going to probably see a different side of parties that are involved in this case that they may have not otherwise seen.

'So when that time comes, you all will be much more informed as to the details that are probably very interesting on the story side, but not necessarily part of the criminal side.'

12/14/24

But now the case has taken yet another shocking turn, with the Sheriff's department expressing fears for the wellbeing of Borgwardt's foreign mistress - whose photo helped put officials in contact with the father-of-three.

Chief Deputy Sheriff Matthew Vande Kolk told DailyMail.com that his department could offer no help to the Uzbek woman whose identity has not been revealed.

'Because we are unable to provide any service to her whatsoever, I am concerned for her wellbeing,' he said.

<modsnip - off topic>

So I am questioning some parallels with RB's flame.
They probably also met on some dating site. I would not be surprized if she, too, is a religious minority within a Sunni majority and maybe complained. Now, Uzbekistan is religiously very tolerant, but maybe inside it feels different. (They forbid Christian proselytizing.) I think a religious person like RB would fall for a story of "we want to build a new church, but need to bribe lots of officials and hence, money is needed." This is when he'd transfer the money, I think. JMO.

That the woman is trying to emigrate from Uzbekistan is very likely. That she probably has some true cause to support, would not surprise me. That she probably expected him to transfer some money for that "cause", highly likely. That she didn't expect him to come and maybe (Christian) Georgia became a third country to meet in, is unsurprising.

So I wonder if it is some "soft" scam, maybe unrelated to any mafia but related to "a religious minority", and that is precisely what RB would fall for. I'd place her into her early to mid-30es, educated, but with "a damsel in distress" story. I think that parts of her story are true, but she's overusing them, you know?

Now him coming there was his idea and probably, it ruined a lot of her plans.

Ultimately, a naive guy who ruined a good marriage and probably the relationship with his kids. I think he lied a lot and tried to pull a scam, but his naivete was used, too, and hence for the LE it looks like a good reason to feel sorry for him.

All JMO. He is religious, I think this angle of his personality could be manipulated, though.

I disagree that LE ever believed they had a good reason to feel sorry for RB! We know that he lied to the woman that he was widowed, and that LE first contacted RB through the woman. IMO, she very much cooperated with LE and facilitated their contact with him.
