I cannot figure out how he thought he'd manage this without getting caught. Getting a new passport and buying an airline gift card...transferring money to a foreign bank...yep, nothing to see here! ????

Big boys are accountable for their feelings and actions, regardless of how uncomfortable that is. Not so much RB.

Would he be flagged in Interpol now? If he used his passport to enter Canada is there no record of him leaving Canada? Not all airports in Canada fly internationally. Toronto, Calgary and Montreal do.

Would think there would need to be a warrant put out for him but I haven’t seen any charges yet. Only an appeal for him to reach out to family. I imagine they can track him with his passport, banking activity but I don’t think they can make him return ….at this point.

The act of faking your own death in and of itself is not a crime. There aren't any federal statues that apply to an individual who fakes their own death. But even if the fake death isn't itself a crime you could be charged with fraud related to:
life insurance
implicating your spouse, if he or she filed a false police report (though if the spouse knew nothing of it they would likely be questioned but NOT charged)
evading state and federal income taxes
violating court ordered legal and financial obligations (if applicable).

But from what I've read of LE's statements in this case, they aren't actively pursuing it as a crime. If he's not formally charged with a serious crime interpol would not likely be notified and there wouldn't be any "flags" to alert customs if he were to return stateside. Here is some info on the types of notifications made to interpol. About Red Notices

I wonder what country he has ended up in. Between mentions of Canada, Uzbekistan, and Europe, it's a wild-goose chase.

I wonder how quickly he ditched the wedding ring :(

Maybe he never left and is still around though. He did it for the life insurance money is what makes the most sense.

No he left. I believe the insurance money was for his family. He opened bank accounts outside the US. Plus he was tagged in Canada.

Another Nicholas Francisco. What a loser

I wonder if the "woman from Uzbekistan" was actually confirmed by LE to be someone living there, or did "she" just allege she was from there?

Also why exactly Canadian LE might have "checked his name" on August 13th?

I wonder which evidence LE has, to link him and the Uzbeki woman to Europe ( some articles mention Eastern Europe)

Maybe bank accounts or web searches…..just my guess. I’d like to know if there really was a woman or he got scammed. Soooo many questions. The man gave up a beautiful family, hope it hits him like a brink one day.

so they know he got a new passport so can't they track that to see what country he flew to? although I guess he's probably canoodalling with the woman in Uzbekistan
LE is being so elusive... all they have said is Europe!?!?!? Sheesh.

At the press conference LE seemed pretty ticked off about the resources spent and the lives they had at risk looking for him... they didn't put a price tag on it or mention any charges.... YET.

Uzbekistan seems SO out of left field though... I kind of hope this loser was being Catfished, big time. How dare he put hardworking people at risk. How dare he put the people who love him through such heartbreak.

Podoll said the investigation shifted focus across the Atlantic when it was discovered that Borgwardt’s passport was “run” on Aug. 13, the day after he disappeared.

Meanwhile, the discovery that Canadian authorities had run his passport prompted investigators to conduct a digital forensic analysis of Borgwardt’s laptop.

"Searching that ... we have found that he was in some place in Europe," Podoll said, alleging that Borgwardt replaced the laptop's hard drive and cleared his browser the day he disappeared.

Vandelkolk told CBS News the fact that Borgrwardt's name was checked by law enforcement in Canada after he seemingly went missing "caught our attention," because it meant "he had contact with Canadian law enforcement in some way, shape or form."

"We've still got to work out all the specifics of that with the Canadian government," said Vandelkolk.

IMO it all depends on how much money he could bring along. And also wondering who is behind such a woman, if she exists at all. Come on, No serious woman IMO would go for a guy that leaves a family behind , without knowing the person first and having been together physically for some time to know a life together would be possible. Unless there is money coming in. Who would believe in true love in this case…This smells as a nice scam, JMO of course. I hope for him, that he is still alive somewhere, probably in Russia or Bulgaria or somewhere not far from there in Eastern Europe. Until he has no money to offer anymore to the woman…but again this is JMO.

Sometimes men think they are going to help a financially-poor woman from another country and she'll just be so devoted to him, they'll "take care of each other" and the usual life/marital stresses and pressures won't exist this time around. I think we have all heard of people who fall for this idea...it's not about true love, because that actually requires commitment through hard times. JMO.

Oh I agree. Laughing sure hope he stays clear of Russia, Americans seem to end up in prisons there. Hmmm then again lol. Guess I’m going down the Pinterest rabbit hole next.

Maybe that's where the banks are located that he transferred funds to? MOO

A digital forensic analysis of a Borgwardt’s laptop provided a digital trail showing that he had planned his disappearance to Europe and attempted to conceal his efforts and mislead law enforcement’s investigation by faking the drowning.

Also on the laptop was Inquiries about moving funds to foreign banks, changed email addresses associated with financial accounts on the day of his disappearance, and Communication with a woman from Uzbekistan… a country in the middle east located just north of Afghanistan.
I know you were quoting the source kfiz but they are incorrect. Uzbekistan is not in the middle east. It is in Central Asia.
