You are very welcome, cheko1.

I especially liked the last line:

In any case, hunting season is coming anew - a time woodsmen and woodswomen should strive to treat each other with courtesy and respect.

Respect is a two-way street......

Hard to believe family is proud of shooter

I read the comments made by Chai Soua Vang's family about how unfair the trial was. His sister and uncle called him a hero. His sister is proud of what he did. Unbelievable. Proud of someone who shoots people in the back or those coming to help.

Vang is nothing to be proud of. He is a violent man with a violent temper and has shown a total disregard for others' rights and the law.

I find it simply amazing that anyone would be ignorant enough to say that to the media. Shows the entire mentalityof his family.

Hope his family is proud when he gets his sentence.....

Vang and his family will be in complete denial for the rest of their lives. They still believe Vang did nothing wrong and the whole case was about race and not about murder.

Detectives are now investigating that case of the other hunter shot in the back while hunting on his private land:

Detective to question Vang in '01 killing

Similarities between case, Sawyer County slayings draw investigators' attention

A Clark County sheriff's detective said Thursday that he plans to ask convicted killer Chai Soua Vang about his whereabouts on the day almost four years ago when a deer hunter was shot and killed near Neillsville

Vang, 36, remains "a person of interest" in the mysterious slaying of Jim Southworth, who was shot twice in the back near his tree stand on Nov. 23, 2001, according to Detective Kerry Kirn.

Kirn said he would attempt to question Vang, but he gave no time frame for the interrogation

I doubt very much Vang will cooperate.

Two of the big racial terms that have been pointed out in the media are not what folks think.

Mud Duck is someone from MN. Doesn't matter what nationality they are.

Tree Rat is someone who climbs up in someone elses tree stand. Doesn't matter what nationality they are.

Does the physical evidence exclude him as a potential suspect?
I'd like to know that too - there has been nothing in the local newspapers about having no evidence to connect Vang to the other murder. The newspaper may be keeping it quiet for a reason, to collect more evidence.

Vang will be sentenced November 8, scroll down for the story:

From what I got out of the article, they can't exclude him. But there is nothing that they have found so far that points to him, except the murders that he has been convicted of.

The Minnesota truck driver convicted of murdering six deer hunters and wounding two others will be sentenced in early November.

Chai Vang will be sentenced Nov. 8, which is less than two weeks before another deer hunting season opens.

Please don't think I'm trying to act like a know it all.......
I heard from a reliable source:

Shell casings were found at the scene
same type that was used to murder the 6 /same type of gun
Vang supposedly hunted there. We know he loves to
shoot people in the backs!

That is possible, but from what LE is saying to the media- no physical evidence connects him. Now we know that LE doesn't always tell everything to the media, so it is possible about the shell casings. But if that is true, then they should be filing charges soon.

I heard that too, cheko1, not from any reliable source but just local rumors. There is still nothing in the WI state papers about Vang not being a suspect or excluding him. I have lived here long enough to know when the LE is so tight-lipped about something there is a big reason for it.

Lady GL,

I am glad I'm not the only one who heard it.

Do you live in the area where it happened? I've been
watching all the news around here too. Nothing yet...
Will be at the cabin this weekend. Hubby is good friends
with the Drews. I'll have him ask if they heard anymore.

Think LE is waiting to see what Vang's sentence is.
They for sure want to bring closure to that case too.
LE says Vang is a piece of work & proud of the fact he killed
them all. Once Vang gets to the big house he'll be as safe
as Jeffrey Dahmer was. :slap:

Hey cheko1 - I live inbetween Madison and Milwaukee. I know a lot of people who have hunting land in Sawyer County and your reference to Jeffrey Dahmer is perfect! I've heard that quite a bit as a matter of fact.....

Still nothing today in the state or local papers about Vang being exluded from the other murder. The detective did say there was no specific timeline when they would interview Vang but it will happen - I think the LE is planning this one very carefully.

I noticed that article came from MN who excluded Vang from the first murder, and I'm really not that surprised. If the MN cops would have taken Vang into custody when they were called all the time for domestic abuse maybe he would have been in jail during last year's hunting season. In WI it's much different - the cops come for domestic abuse and someone is going to jail that night, period. The MN didn't pursue it because Vang's wife wouldn't cooperate....that would never happen here. Even a Packer or two has been hauled off to jail on a domestic abuse call!

Crazy Vang took a gun after his wife.....can you imagine what would of happened here in Wi???? Ouch at the thoughts of it! Then she is such a ditz she stood by his side at the trial saying she was glad he done it. (murdered) What kind of mentality is that?

KSTP in Minneapolis had the verdict on TV..... they report everything about the case. Should they have info on him / trust me it will be on the News. Mn is very lax on there domestic abuse laws. Which is so sad. I live about 10 mi from Mn border. They had a article in the paper where he was allowed to reaise chickens in St Paul. Can you imagine if anyone else tried to do that?

I honestly don't think he'll last long in prison. He will be a prize for some inmate just as Dahmer was. I haven't got a ounce of sympathy for him. I just wish Wi had the death penalty.

Probably one of the most incriminating things Vang said & done was: When Al Lanski & Jess Willers were coming on the 4 wheeler / he stated Al was driving the ATV / going very fast & was carrying a rifle / that Al seen Vang then took his rifle & aimed it at Vang / thats when Vang shot them..

Now anyone who has ever driven or rode on 4 wheelers knows you can't take both hands off the steering going fast / you'd loose control & crash. There is no way in the world that could happen.

They were all avid 4 wheelers. My hubby & I are & there is no way in hell you could ever consider shooting a gun flying down a road or path driving a 4 wheeler.
