Amber Alert: Beaver Dam pregnant teen missing, man charged

Police said the 40-year-old Arkansas man is known to be the father of the 16-year-old's unborn child.

Per court filings and criminal complaint:

• Franklin's parents tried to restrict her internet access but she continued to gain access.
• Franklin and Day began talking online in April 2024.
• Day came to Wisconsin, picked up Franklin and took her to Arkansas. She was found in Arkansas and returned home last year.
• Franklin's parents came across a conversation in late January while using a computer. Investigators believe that conversation was between Franklin and Day, and there was a fight. There was also mention that Day was on probation in Arkansas for an abuse conviction, and said he stayed out past curfew and that his ankle monitor was flashing.

I knew it, they met online. Day was on the hunt for his next victim.

I really thought with no chatter that this had to be some kind of private meeting of some sort, church, after school situation etc. Once again, kids on the internet. It is so scary.

- Guy is a creep
- She was vulnerable
- We all share deep hope that she’s found uninjured

So let’s hypothesize from that hope and share together: if it happens,
- MOO: She is likely to have a rough time of it when she is found
- Opinion: We are not yet great as a society at acclimating back victims of what is essentially human trafficking of a minor, which is how I see this case, and curious if you do too …
- Opinion: Decent chance they are picked up by LE in the rural South
- Opinion: There will then be a multi-day child protective/cross-state discussion about what to do, while she is in housing - first in protective custody and then with well-intentioned social workers - but she does not want to be there, and the conditions are giving prison much more than they are giving “we want to help here and we support you”

I would love to channel energy into, what can we do?
How can we maximize outcome for a girl who is MOO: likely to be handed jail pajamas, pregnant, when she’s found in some highway-adjacent town?
I am so rooting for her. This is a really rough situation.

Guys like this are why parents have rules. Hope she’s alive to have learned a hard lesson. It’s a shame another little life has been brought into this unhealthy and abusive situation. If she makes it to a hospital to deliver, there is typically automatic social work consult for teen pregnancy, etc. but they often won’t do that much. Hope she is found safe before then.

The Arkansas Lonoke County Sheriff’s Office shared to social media on Tuesday, the suspect is believed to be traveling to Arkansas, potentially to the Austin area of Lonoke County.

... authorities say license plates are possibly being switched out to avoid detection. They now believe the car may have a Pennsylvania plate.

According to court records, Day's last known address is in Lonoke County, Arkansas. The Lonoke County Sheriff told WISN 12 News they've been in contact with Wisconsin investigators in connection to this Amber Alert.

Franklin's family did not want to discuss details of the investigation Tuesday but asked for their daughter's safe return.

I wonder who he remains in contact with. Someone has to recognize him? Wonder how much her friends know. Teenage girls will typically remain in contact with someone, even if not parents. Jmo?

Tough love? For a teenager who has been groomed by a man literally more than twice her age??

As someone who was in a similar situation as the victim when I was her age (thankfully minus pregnancy) this would have just pushed me away further. I'm not saying I know what the solution is, but that's not it.

I wonder when he was supposed to check in with his probation officer. Dumb question but if a person is on probation, would that expedite any search warrant requests?

She's 3 months pregnant. Which doesn't really line up with the story being told here about them being no contact.

It sounds like her parents tried to do everything they were supposed to, but having been a 16 year old and having had two 16 year olds, there is only so much you can do. Locking them in their room and only letting them out for school is generally frowned upon as a parenting practice. How easy would it be for Sophia to borrow a friends' phone and continue contact? Or get a friend to buy her a cheap burner?

A no-contact order is essentially just a piece of paper. An accomplished groomer like this guy wouldn't see it as much of an impediment. I'm sure he convinced her that their true love would prevail.

Of course, if he'd been locked up after the situation with his first teen-age bride, we wouldn't be here.

I hope she's found safe and her privacy is respected and he goes to prison for a long, long time.
