Found Safe WI - SMF, 16, Beaver Dam, 2 Feb 2025 *3 mo's pregnant, believed to be with 40-year-old father of the baby*

I don't know if he had another license plate at hand - he's used several and would've stolen them off of other cars during their travels
I have seen it reported the vehicle has Arkansas plates, Pennsylvannia plates, and Arizona plates.

( I think it's possible that someone may have mis-interpreted AR as Arizona rather than Arksansas, if that abbreviation was used in a media report.) Correct abbreviations:

Arkansas AR
Arizona AZ
Alaska AK
Alabama AL
American Samoa AS

Franklin was found in Austin, Ark. in December where it was believed she met Day online. An Arkansas law enforcement agency "advised they were in contact" with Franklin. According to the complaint, the victim told police her parents believed she was staying with a friend. She decided she would rather stay with Day than at home. She said Day did know she was 16. She said they waited until they arrived in Arkansas to become sexually active because the age of consent is 16 there compared to 18 in Wisconsin.
So am I understanding this right the last time she was missing from July to December 2024. Found in Arkansas with him previously!? After all this time I’m sure she firmly believes they are in love.
The swapping of license plates and heading for a state where age of consent is 16 screams premeditation.

That's a pretty long summer to be staying with a friend! IMO

Having raised 6 girls myself, 2 of them who quite clearly knew far more than me at 16 years old (I know this because they proudly told me how smart they were) and also who both moved out at that age to live with "a friend" mostly because they hated the rules at home (take out the trash, clean your room, you know, the real awful stuff) but also because they wanted to do stuff they knew full well I'd never approve of... this kind of behavior isn't surprising at all.

It's a complicated age. You can't just lock them in the house, and when they do leave, there's almost nothing you can do about it, but HOPE they stay in touch and are safe and that no one takes advantage of them in any way. I definitely understand what her parents are dealing with right now and why they have no interest in speaking to the media.

How do parents teach their budding teen daughters to avoid manipulative middle aged men? Parents probably think more about aggressive hormone burning young men as the "enemy" of their teenage daughters. But these older men....are so much more dangerous in my mind.

moo.
Well, to give credit, many teenage girls wouldn’t look once in his direction. He, along with many sex offenders, prey on those most vulnerable… imo

I wonder if she was enrolled in regular public school. Seems that if so, the school should have gotten involved? 16 can be 10th, 11th, 12th grade usually. Curious if school questioned her absence? Or her friends’ thoughts about the situation? Sadly, i’m betting that she’s not really getting much of an education in this time period either. Ugh.

Sophia was brought back to Wisconsin, and a no-contact order was issued for Day.

But Day could only be arrested for interference with custody, because the age of consent in Arkansas is 16 years old. Day then bonded out, and police believe he picked up Franklin again, prompting the Amber alert.

On Feb. 1, 2025, Franklin’s parents contacted law enforcement and said that Franklin and Day had been chatting online again.

Court documents state law enforcement reviewed the online messages and found Day threatening suicide.

...on Monday, Franklin’s father reported her missing again after camera footage caught her getting into a vehicle with a person believed to be Gary Day.

In 2019, Day was charged with Endangering The Welfare of a Minor-1st Degree after it was reported his four-month-old son broke his femur in Independence County. Doctors noticed more bruising and fractures consistent with blunt force trauma.

We can't focus on the teen doing stupid stuff at this point. There is a grown man who is SERIOULSY taking advantage illegally might I add of young teens. Not 1 but possibly 2 and a baby that we know of. Place blame later but for now this guy needs to be caught. IMO

Indeed, predators prey on vulnerabilities and weakness.
If this young lady expressed to him her desire to leave her parents home (guessing, as I have no idea if she ever said that) then this is 100% the type of information that would be exploited, unfortunately.

If I am not mistaken, I believe the Mann Act is still law, and if it is not appropriate to the situation here, please excuse. If this has already been cited in this thread, please excuse.

IANAL, but the Mann Act may be pertinent to what that man is doing. Please excuse if not appropriate, please excuse.

Hoping for good news soon.
I do worry (as we all do, I'm sure) about her situation -- I hope she is in a clean and decent place to live with good and healthy food, and I wonder how long what's-his-name will take care of her and the baby. Is she going to an OB-GYN at regular intervals to make sure she and the unborn child are in good health, etc.? SMH.
I do think something at her home, school, or whatever, may have made her reach out to someone with whom she thought she would have a better life.

The more I read about the circumstances of Sophia's previous visit to Arkansas, the more worried I feel. Studies have shown that teen victims of statutory rape and human trafficking are significantly more likely than the average kid to have unstable and/or unstructured home lives, inconsistent adult supervision, and irregular school attendance. Predators go out of their way to find kids in these circumstances because they are easy marks. The information released to the public about where Sophia was and what she was doing between July and December is troubling. <modsnip> Either way, the situation made a 16-year-old girl highly vulnerable to the attention of a predator like Day. I hope that Sophia's parents and other caring adults in her life will see to it that she receives the professional help she's going to need following this crisis, and that all parents and teens view this story as a cautionary tale. <MOO>

What happens if he sees a prettier girl -- possibly with money and a nice car, etc., etc. Will he decide to step up??

From where is the money coming for her seeing an OB-GYN, buying maternity clothes, for baby's birth in a hospital, baby's clothes and diapers, baby food; for rent, food, gas, etc., etc.?? Grrrr and SMH.
